Perkins says sloppy practice isn’t helping - The Boston Globe

The Celtics spent the past two days trying to regain their sharpness, but Perkins, along with coach Doc Rivers, walked away unimpressed. "I think our energy’s been high, [but] these past few practices haven’t been good, I don’t think,’’ Perkins said after yesterday’s workout. "They haven’t been our best practices. We’ve been turning over the ball, just being sloppy the last two practices. "I thought as far as Doc and the coaching staff, they had the right game plan for practice. As a team, we haven’t had the perfect execution for practice. We just gotta get back on the right track.’’

Hm...

I’m kind of impressed by this “openness”. Telling people it’s you and the rest of the gang that are being sloppy, not blaming it on outside factors… I think we’re on the road to becoming “better”, since at least right now we’re acknowledging we got an issue.

I hope we can work it out.

… and I’m amazed at how I keep saying “we” instead of “they”. What the hell is wrong with me :x

me too

whenever i talk to anyone about something the celtics organisation did.. ie trade or win/loose a game.. i say “we” as well

i think it means you really care about the organisation!

No joke

I was just in an argument at work about that, I think its fine to say “we” haha

P2 is the man.

Love Perk's "true talk".

He always says what he thinks and doesn’t care about manners. He doesn’t hesitate to blame his team or himself.

With that said, I do hope that tonight the C’s will get back on track but. I don’t agree with this statement : “Perhaps the disfunctional Warriors will be what we need to get back on track.”

For me, this is a really dangerous team considering how poorly the C’s have defended the last two games, and the Warriors will certainly come out motivated, they will want to beat us down to “shock” the league. So I hope nobody gets sloppy tonight…

The growth of Perk

I still wish he and the team would invest in some public speaking class because he is a helluva lot smarter than he sounds. By the time KG moves on Perk will be a true leader.
Anyone that wants to still question Doc’s talents as coach need look no further than Perk. Doc had help from Clif Ray, KG and Perk himself but Perk is a living example of developing your own talent.

Captain Perk?

I think that day may come sooner rather than later.

He’s a Celtic since high school and a role model for the rest of the team. The player’s association ought to get Perk involved in the League’s rookie program.

I can definitely see that happening.

As much as a I love Rondo as the future of the franchise, Perk seems a lot more comfortable in the leadership role.

Don't Trade Rondo or Perk!

Rondo's gonna have the greater on-the-court leadership role with the offense

But Perk could be just as important as the outspoken defensive leader, the general leader, and the heart of the team as well. In that sense he’d be inheriting both KG’s and PP’s current roles.

Good for Perk!

(He’s my favorite among them all.)

good sign (sort of)

Good sign that he cares, he’s motivated to improve and he’s willing to call out his teammates to get their act together too (while being classy enough not to name names and include himself in the “need to improve” ranks)

Definitely agree that captaincy may be in his future, possibly in PP’s last year or two to ease the transition.

Sort of...

by “sort of” I meant Perk’s reaction was good but the fact the team is still sloppy in practice is very disconcerting.

further proof that “veterans” aren’t necessarily better than youth. it’s talent and desire that wins championships.

The game survived without Red, Magic, Larry, Oscar, and a host of other great players. Everything is designed to take it easy on the “THE OLD THREE”. Light training camp light practice all makes for sloppy play. You can’t stroke player to a championship. Put our capable young players in the game with real minutes of floor time. This way we will all know if we really have some treasure or if we have some trash. Right now we don’t know because Doc won’t play the youngins.

We all have misgivings about Giddens but for real we have n Idea is the man can play or not. He has not looked great also he has not had time on the floor. No one can make a correct acessment of a man just sitting on the bench. Guess what Sheldon did not get a good look either before he came here.

Last Paragraph Answers Your Question

Giddens has done nothing when he’s gotten the chance to play, even if only short minutes. Walker the same. TA has shown what he’s got and no one can say he hasn’t gotten the chance. Shelden Williams, on the other hand, has come in and has performed very well. Thus he plays while the others sit. I think both Doc and Danny know exactly what they have and Doc plays the guys who deliver. We are not a developmental team. We are competing for Banner 18 and we don’t need to play guys who just don’t get it done. When the Big Three retire we can go back to developing players. And even then Giddens, Walker and TA still won’t get it done. Perk got a chance and showed he can play and lead. Same with Rondo and Glen Davis. Don’t put this on Doc. I should add Al Jeff to this list even though he’s playing elsewhere.

Walker at age 20 showed more than Giddens at 24...

and enough to at least give him another chance.

I'd be....

Much more concerned if Perk was happy….

Perk vs. McCarty

How about more minutes for Perk (32-34mpg) and less for the new McCarty clone.

Has Sheed..

upset the team ethic..? I’m sure there’s a message in including that photo of Poik with Rasheed in the foreground. I know we’ve been told that Sheed is all basketball, but I can’t shake the feeling that he dogs it on occasion and it is rubbing KP the wrong way.

On the other hand…the last two years many have said we don’t need to blast out of the starting blocks 25-2, that we might be burning out the vets. So now we’re 8-3 and it’s hard to take the long view, we still want to win every game.

Three-fourths of the world is covered by water, the rest is covered by Perk

I stole that one from shane battier. It would be funny if it wasn’t true. Can we strip Pierce’s Captain, and give it to Perkins.

PP’s been steady this year and I appreciate that. Maybe co-captains in a couple years?
