Glen Davis Set For Early December Return
Glen Davis to fight for minutes - BostonHerald.com
The cast will come off the thumb on Dec. 2, and then, according to coach Doc Rivers, the task of getting back into the rotation will intensify. Davis should be cleared for contact soon after, but when he’s ready to roll, he will have no guarantees.
As for how Davis will fit in, Rivers said, "We’ll see. He could help us clearly, but Shelden (Williams) is doing what he does. So it’s a competition. Glen has to come back and win that job.
"Shelden’s a better rebounder. They’re probably equal shooters. I think Baby’s ahead of him defensively, because he knows all the rotations and stuff. I think it’s good. There’ll be good competition when Baby comes back.

Baby for Sheed
I can’t wait for BBD’s return. He can spread the floor and take Sheed’s place. There is no way that the 2009 version of Sheed gives you more than BBD.
rofl c'mon..
Rasheed may not be hitting his 3’s, but have him go down to the post a little. Besides, Rasheed’s defense and rebounding on the second unit is so far and away better than BBD’s that it’s not even funny.

Disagree
Rasheed though he is in a slump now is a better outside shooter especially with his 3 point range (Baby only has a 15 ft jump shot ) .
Rasheed is a better low post scorer especailly with his low post fall away jump shot (Baby has no low post game whats so ever).
Rasheed (when he plays close to the basket and is not roaming the perimeter) is a better rebounder then Baby with his length (Baby does not rebound at all)
Rasheed is a better shot blocker than Baby with his length (Baby does not block any shots).
Baby does have a role on this team with his young legs, hustle and physical play.
But to say he should see more floor time than Rasheed is denying the talent and skills Rasheed still brings to the floor for the Celtics .

compete with welden???
Glen Davis belongs in the top ten come playoff time. If my memory serves me correctly, I think he was in the top five at playoff time last year and I think he passed the test. Maybe, I’m wrong……..Compete with Shelden Williams are you kidding. This guy won the first regular season game against San Antonio in the history of Tim Duncan. And Garnett DNP because of injury. Sometimes I wonder if things get said in here just for the sake of talking or if you really think it is true.
My memory disagrees with yours
While BBD played admirably against Tim Duncan, Duncan still had more than a 20/10 game. That’s not exactly stellar D.
For starters, competition on a team is good. It will bring out the best in both BBD and Shelden. Secondly, I agree with Doc’s comments in that they are equal shooters and Shelden is a better rebounder. Why shouldn’t there be competition?
BBD was not top 5 or whatever you call it in the playoffs. He was on the court out of desperation due to injuries.

Tom, Your memory may disagree, but let the facts speak.
Duncan’s first loss in his history with the Celtics came at the hands of Glen Davis without KG in the lineup. The Celtics were desparate and Davis took the challenge to the brink of the Eastern Finals. Let there be competition. With his space creation, improved jump shot, and ability to pass and catch, he will compete.
What space?
“At the hands of Glen Davis” is not a fact. It is your interpretations of events.
Is BBD’s jumper any better than Williams’? The main difference on offense is that Williams goes for more offensive boards, while Baby is a better finisher.
Sheed, House, and Pierce/Ray/Scal usually create the space for the ‘2nd team’. Williams has a J, but he isn’t used that way with Sheed on the floor.

Kandi Man was our back up big then, not Davis :D
“When Olowokandi was told the Celtics last won in San Antonio in 1990, he said: "Wow, I was like 15. I guess that’s something to celebrate.’’
If we don't play Davis
I will be very angry. He is certainly a better shooter than Williams, despite what Doc says, because he hits the shots in games. Davis is a better scorer and a better defender (according to Doc), he should see much more time than the Land Lord.
Nice to see Baby return, but Doc must make sure Williams and Rasheed still should see more minutes.......
Though they are both a wash offensively, Id like to see Williams get more minutes than Baby since he is a better rebounder, defender and shot blocker than Baby since he plays bigger especially due to his very long arm span.
Id like to make sure Rasheed sees more minutes than Baby since he is a far better scorer than Baby (though he is in a slump currently) with a great deep outside shot and a great beautiful fall away low post jumper (that he must utilize more).
He also is a better rebounder than Baby (when he gets near the basket and is not roaming outside the perimeter ) and gives us nice length in the front court that Baby can not provide as his defense against Shaq and Howard have proved this year.
I am happy Baby is back as it will add depth and young legs to the team, but the C’s should make sure Williams and Rasheed are not lost in the rotation when Baby does return.
i find it humerous that folks think williams....
couldn’t have some games like baby if he played in the starting line-up with pierce, allen and rondo for 35 games. he’d have some good ones, and he’d have some clunkers. lord knows glen did in the same shoes. he’s been here for 14 games!
they’re just not that different as players — the extremes that people keep referring to are unrealistic.
Trade Rasheed?
He gives us outside shooting (though he is in a slump now) and spreads the floor to open up oppurtunities for other players.
Has a great low post offensive game especially with that unstoppable fall away jump shot.
He is the only center and player on our bench with size and length since he is nearly 7 ft tall..
He possibly plays Orlando’s Howard better than any other defender in the NBA which will come in handy when we face them in the Playoffs.
He plays Shaq very well, which will come in Handy if we face them in the playoffs.
I do not think trading Rasheed makes sense at all.
He offers alot for this team and fits in so well to do so.

I'm angry about him...
seriously I agree with you – but I’m very angry about his slump and his common motivation: If Sheed would have played better in the last lost games, we had won these games… Sure he maybe will play better the season goes on, but I beginning to lose my hopes in him… You have to consider, that he is an old man – I guess he thoughts about retirement before signing to the celtics…. second I think we shouldn’t overrate him instead of looking at his stats – he had 0 rebounds and only 4 points in 19 minutes at Indiana – thats just out of question – did he slept !!??
I asked god and he said: L.A. will lose again next year!! ^_°
Let the competition begin!
Maybe….Davis was (past tense) a better defender; maybe Davis was (past tense) a better rebounder; maybe Davis was (past tense) a better fit. Good…let him prove it. Can"t hurt to have two big men have to play with a little passion and earn their minutes.
Maybe this will force Sheed to play under the basket a little more….and I have been very impressed so far with Sheldon. I forgive, but can’t forget, that Davis’ injury has forced KG to play more minutes early than he possibly should have, and it “might” have slowed his rehab time.
