Tony Allen Could Play Tonight?
Tony Allen is nearing his season debut after undergoing ankle surgery in the summer. Rivers said Allen might play tonight against the Sixers, though they could hold him out until a four-game road trip begins on Sunday. "Tony looked good today," said Rivers. "I think with him, it's going to be a confidence thing. (Monday), I didn't think he looked good. Today, he looked terrific. He was exploding to the basket." ...

How awesome would it be...
If Tony Allen came back as an All-Star? We’d clearly win the East!

The C's need to play him a bit...
to show case him and then trade his valuable 2.4 million expiring contract near the trade deadline for a player who is more talented and who can help the team more than Allen can.
Preferably a bigger stronger small forward who can guard players like Lebron if Pierce is in foul trouble, needs a blow or is having a bad day defending.

This is good.
It’s TA time. He’s better than JR by ALOT

Uhh...
Who’s he going to play for? Because if him playing means Eddie House brings the ball up…that will spell disaster.

please – not this again. What was Doc’s comment – that he is inconsistent? No kidding.

He could,...
but he won`t, right?
RIGHT?

Let the Showcasing Begin
But seriously, how could he not look great in practice playing against those old farts?
by Brickowski on Nov 25, 2009 2:25 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
He played against you?
Kidding, kidding..
You know that how someone plays in practice is everything to Doc. It’s the “reason” that Telfair played over Rondo, Scalabrine over Gomes, etc.

showcasing indeed
Should listen to the Ryen Russillo ESPN podcast 11/23 with Bucher regarding the Celtics. Id agree they look old but Bucher has some interesting points in regards to the sloppy play. Hopefully we can get some help with the Pupu platter we are trying to trade.

It's easy to be cynical about TA..
..but he could really be an asset if he comes back healthy. Sure he’s awful as a primary ball handler, but we have Daniels to do that on the second unit now. He could help on the D side, that’s for sure..
by BWC on Nov 25, 2009 2:29 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
maybe, but health has nothing to do with spazzing out, dibbling off of his foot, and turning the ball over.

I don’t think Tony Allen is smart enough to be an effective player on this team. That’s my hunch.

I might sound crazy but...
… Im actually really happy to hear this news. With Daniels kind of alternating games as Pierce’s and then Allen’s back up, each of them has had to play a few games with serious minutes. Sure, TA was awful last year, but lets not forget that he was actually a really effective bench player the year we won #17. If he can return to that level, which i really believe he can, he could be the younger spark our team needs (at least until we can find a good deal and get rid of him). With BBD coming back soon, and TA possibly back to his old form, our team doesnt look that old all of a sudden. Also, we could go with a small, but very fast and scrappy line up of House TA and Daniels, with Daniels bringing the ball up the floor but playing more of a small forward position and TA staying on the perimiter. Wouldnt be great for defense but it would be fast and could answer teams who are running on us. Last years chemistry was off, but with KG back and everyone hungry again, i dont think he’ll be able to slack off

I'm with Chilli
I’m excited about this news. Tony Allen can be a great bench player, and I think he’ll be playing his best.

I don’t recall any great moments by TA throughout the 2007 playoff run. Please refresh my recollection.
by jurrasicearl on Nov 25, 2009 2:47 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
2007 playoff run
he only played 3 minutes a game TOPS. and that was through no fault of his own, his numbers in the month leading up to the playoffs were actually really good. There were a lot of close games in the play offs and we did not have any need for a bench player like him with Cassell at PG house at SG and Posey at SF. But in regular season games (especially before cassell and posey came along) he was an important player on nights when pierce or allen were struggling, or if we were just trying to rest the big 3. Hes a valuable bench player when hes playing well, lets hope he’s back and motivated…

I wonder if TA will bring the ball up when he's in
Don’t laugh. Danny seems to like when he does it and has mentioned it before. I’m simply reiterating Danny’s sentiments. You never know in these situations.

New Nickname
TA’s new nickname ought to be “Potato Chips” because about 90% of the people here want to trade him for a bag. In fairness, a few folks are also insisting on a kosher dill pickle.

The law of opposites
Tony Allen is going to morph into a controlled, vicious defending, leaping, end-to-end role player with a high steal to turnover ratio
