Celtics Hang On For The Win
The Sixers made it real close at the end, but the Celtics hang on behind a big effort by Paul Pierce.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Same story tonight as recently, shooting too many 3s we can't make enough. I'd much rather have rondo or anyone drive the ball which they are usually always successful at. Just has to come how long until they notice thats what they need to do.

we stink right now

Well, Pierce is playing championship caliber basketball…with all the “old” talk hes having an underrated season….
I like what doc is doing playing rondo with the 2nd unit, and rondos energy late was key to the win
by takeit on Nov 25, 2009 10:40 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
pp was the zen master and an all around game. rondo is the girl with the curl, when he is good…he was bad in the third, actually had a wide open layup and he passed it out. no defense to speak of which is becoming routine. i agree- too many 3’s.

Monster game
for Pierce. 27, 6, 6 with 0 turnovers(handling the ball quite a bit), 10-15, 3-7 from three and 1 huge charge taken late. Doc also mentioned the Captain’s leadership in timeouts and at halftime, believes he is playing the best he has since he has been here, MVP level. Now if the rest of the team would just follow his lead, things will improve.

I’m tired of seeing Sheed setting picks & stepping out for a three! You’re 7feet tall for christ sake! Play in the paint….you have a post game! You can get offensive rebounds for your team! Teams have to respect you down low! That opens up other things!!! The three will be there when needed!!!!!!!!
by wingate on Nov 25, 2009 10:58 PM EST via mobile reply actions 0 recs
We knew what were getting when we signed Sheed
lots of 3’s and technical fouls, with decent defense.
Don't Trade Rondo or Perk!

keep in mind
Sheed doesn’t think he can play post anymore. he thinks he’s too old and can’t get the lift needed to play inside. that’s why he’s moved to outside shooting. personally, i think if he tried harder, he’d be just fine down low. but that’s what he thinks.

Yeah me too! It just seems like when he does go down there…(which I’ve only seen it personally since he’s been here a hand full of times) he’s successfull……

When has he ever come out and said this? that doesnt even make sense
He moved to outside shooting at the end of his portland days, has nothing to do with his age why hes shooting from the perimeter

He's said he's older and can't jump the way he used to.

Pierce Bailed Them Out
No question.
But where was the perimeter defense? Maybe if they had done a little of that the game wouldn’t have been so close. They’re lucky that Kapono missed the first free throw.

Totally agree...
Pierce had an amazing game. Rajon had great spurts, but he has to attack more. I really look forward to having BBD back when he is well.

Still Dissapointing
Philly is a depleted sub-500 team and they struggled to pull this out.
Celtics were 13 pt favorites.
Philly lost to the Wizards just last night.
I dunno guys. I’m a true blue fan, but this team just ain’t what it was last year.
not now anyway.
will reserve judgement til Baby comes back.
His presence is missed more than i thought.
His passion and camraderie with the other players is missed

Just back from the game
Right now, it is simple: THIS TEAM STINKS. The only disappointment was they only took 27 3’s. Would have been nice to reach 30. Imagine if Philly had their starting point guard and power forward. Disgusting.

they won again, this team stinks, they won, they stink, they won again, they stink again. I bet when they win the championships they are really gonna stink.

Record is deceiving
The Celts have beaten one good team, Cleveland. They have struggled to beat some of the worst teams in the league — Minnesota, New Jersey with 8 players, the Godawful Knicks, and tonight the depleted Sixers who started a 19-year-old kid at point guard. If they do not turn it around, they will be fortunate to beat any of the good teams they play in the next several weeks.

horrible
yes sirreeeee. 4 losses all by 20 or more points, they got crushed in all their losses. record is deceiving they are really 0-82.

Its really depressing
how whiney Celtics fans can be sometimes… the way some complain, you’d think we were 4-11 and didn’t have a shot at the playoffs…
Don't Trade Rondo or Perk!
by RJ87 on Nov 25, 2009 11:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
really?
you mean we are really not 4-11?? Wow I thought we were, ya see I don’t watch the games I just read the whiney comments and listen to the media and the big boys from espn and the big boy power rankings and the bigger boys in the league with the better players, and all the 16-0 teams in the league right now. Did you know that 29 teams in the NBA right now are 16-0? and we are 4-11, we’ll really 0-15 you get the point. .

You said it!
11-4 is very respectable.
Think about what Cleveland fans are saying now. "We boosted out talent by getting Shaq and he’s clogging up the lane and making it impossible for the King to drive."
And Orlando fans "Is Jameer ever gonna be healthy, his always injured, is he gonna be the same when he comes back?"
And Spurs fans "We added Jefferson and now out main guys are been big pansies again and getting injured"
And Lakers fans "Why do all our players look gay" or "There’s a fish wet fish on the court! Oh no is just Pau Gasol".
I go on many other team blogs and we are by far the biggest bunch of worry mongers.
by Scal4theallstargame on Nov 26, 2009 12:12 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
why
media worship. Because if Stuart Scott or Jalen Rose says one thing, you go straight to the mirror look yourself in the eye and say “Yes master I will repeat exactly what you say word for word”. And then you don’t even watch the games. Just read the articles after the game that say “Celtics stink” and “Celtics win doesn’t count because they stink”, avoid any articles that show a final score where the Celtics have more than their opponent. When Pierce goes up for a 3 point play, just hit fast foward until Kapono drains a three. As Kobe takes flight marvel in the way he hangs in the air to hit another fade away jumper and celebrate as yet another 2 points go the Lakers way. When Garnett hits a buzzer beater photoshop the video so it looks as if the ball is still in his hands as time expires. And don’t forget the #1 headline in the sports paper every night.
“Celtics win and stink”

Well, it's Two in a Row. I'll take it.
The win may not be pretty, but it’s two in a row. That’s all that matters.
We’ll work these kinks out.
Last year at this time, we were embarking on a 19-game winning streak, and our bench back then was much more inexperienced. We have more experience and weapons now.
Evidently we stopped the Sixers for a few minutes at the beginning of the fourth qtr and Rondo took over to push us over the top.
Instead of looking at what we are lacking during this season so far, let’s look at what is going right:
Perk is becoming a reliable low-post option on offense. Every time I see double figures in pts from him this is a bonus. And he remains a Defensive Force for us.
Our starters are playing a lot less minutes. Sure Pierce is playing a little more, but the pattern I see with him is that he is trying to carry us while we work out these kinks, just like a Captain does.
With every win that’s another game that KG has under his belt to get back to the KG we are used to. And KG seemed to be very productive on offense tonight.
Sheed will break out of his slump. I know he will. Eddie is showing signs of coming out of his mini-slump, too.
Glen Davis and TA will be back soon. These two will help out as well.
And Shelden and Marquis Daniels continue to be pleasant surprises for us.
While the ATL and ORL loses were frustrating, these two teams still have to face us in April and May. We will have more opportunities against them this season.
Defense wins games (And Championships)!

11-4 is 11-4..
We’re still winning over 70% of our games. Bad teams don’t do that. The way people on here moan you would think we were the Nets..

MEDIOCRE
i dont think stating the obvious is being a whiney fan. its just that = stating the obvious-
this team is in some trouble , we all know it – sure we got the win and there was some great play. but they way they started out the season and to how their playing now??
night and day!!
remember garbage time and resting all the starters in the 4th quarter??
that being said – i still think were gonna go back to playing at a much higher level-
GO GREEN!!

"Hang On For The Win"
What an appropriate heading. They were really hanging by a thread throughout the game, even when they were up 6 or 8.
Watching PP carried the offense tonight brought back memory of the bad Celtics teams of a few years ago. Back then, PP carried the team but the team lost. Now PP seems the only one who can create shots, but the team win games, barely. But it was not supposed to be this way when they brought in KG and Ray. They were supposed to spread the wealth around. No one needs to play 40+ mins and score 30 points for the the team to win. They did it in the first year the Big 3 were here, but not anymore.
Round now, this team will barely get out the first round of the play-offs.
by getthat18now on Nov 26, 2009 1:44 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
yes so obvious
well actually they are 1 game away from being eliminated from playoff contention, because one more Celtics win and they will be knocked out of the playoffs. If the Celtics win they get eliminated, if the other team wins or loses they move 10 games ahead of the Celtics in on one calendar day.

no need to panic guys...
At 11-4, we are just one game behind the league leading phoenix suns. We may be struggling against the so called “weaker” teams but the important thing is for us to keep racking up the wins. A one point win is just the same as a 20 point blowout…it’s just one additional game in the win column. Yes, we’d like to roll over everyone just as we did the past two seasons, but sadly, this isn’t the case for now. The team may be struggling but the good new is that there are 67 more games to be played. We may have been lulled into a false sense on “invincibility” by the media and all that talk about going after the Bulls’ 72-10 record. In reality, the competition has gotten a lot better this season. Who would have thought that the suns and hawks would go on a blazing start like they have? But hey, the cavs and the magic are also at 11-4. The lakers are at 11-3, and the league leading suns are at 12-3. We’re not really THAT bad guys…

impressions from being at the game
Was at the game last night, here’s my impressions.
(just to please Pump I’ll get the obligatory “this team stinks” out of the way up front—>because they really stunk)
- there was no defense anywhere on the court for the C’s last night until that brief few minutes in the 4th where Rondo also asserted himself offensively. Perimeter defense was horrible as was the interior defense.
- rebounding was awful. no blocking out by the big guys leading to so many offensive rebounds for Philly, particularly at the start of the game. Part of that was that either Garnett or Perk had to leave their man to stop the penetrator. Of course that left their man open for either the pass for a layup or in position for the rebound. When they didn’t, Rondo’s or Ray’s man just went in for a layup. If they had stopped the penetration and blocked out Philly, Philly wouldn’t have scored for the first 6 minutes.
- To take that a step further, there was no help defense at all. No one was rotating. That’s something that’s definitely missing from the last 2 years. Sheed was the worst offender. His pick and roll defense (and the guard’s defense in general) was lousy.
- They had more cohesion on offense to start the game but about midway through the 1st they went back to sloppy, sloppy play. Passes weren’t crisp or on target. Still a lot of standing around—not as much as other recent games—-but still lots of it.
- Way too many 3’s being chucked up and too often way too early in the shot clock. Until this team starts hitting at a higher rate, they definitely need to move in the circle a few feet to get a more makeable shot.
- Too many drives into the lane kicked out for outside jumpers. When in the paint, shoot it, don’t throw it out for a 3 that’ll clank off the rim or as happened several times, get thrown away. Team starting pulling away once Rondo actually tried to score when he got in the paint instead of passing.
- Marquis was stationed outside the 3 point line on offense. What’s with that? He can’t shoot from out there, can offensive rebound and isn’t really going to drive from that far out. Blame that one on Doc for bad use of a player’s skills.
- Many missed layups and free throws. No excuse for that. None.
- Refs weren’t great but only a couple of questionable calls late in the game. Can’t blame the close game on them.
Did I focus on the negative, yes I did. Why? Because there was nothing positive at the game except Pierce. Just Pierce and nothing but Pierce.
For those thinking the team is doing great based on their record, enjoy the delusion while it lasts. Once they start facing better teams on a more regular basis, the losses will start piling up IF they continue to play this way and you won’t be able to point at their record as a beacon of hope. Can they play better? I still believe they can but they haven’t shown much reason for optimism. If this level of play continues until January, I would be stunned if Danny didn’t do something big to shake this team out of its lethargic attitude at the deadline.

very true
kind of dissapointing to see them lose last night to Philly in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
there was nothing postive about the game because the Celtics missed all their shots and the scorekeeper gave them 113 points at the buzzer so they could win.
there is just nothing positive about a win, nothing at all.

are you sure
you watched the whole game? Or just the shots Philly made and the shots Celtics missed. I bet when Garnett hit a jumper you just happened to “look away”, and didn’t notice it actually “went in”.
