FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE: Should the C's put the following line up on the floor to defend against opposing quick, atheletic, young, small lineups?
Ok we all know the Celtics defense has at times against younger, athletic, quicker, smaller lineups has been very poor.
Well what about the C's putting the following young, quick, athletic, small lineup on the floor (which we have not seen yet this year) to help us defend against these opposing young, quick, athletic, small lineups.
Rondo at point.
Hudson at shooting guard.
Perk at center.
Garnett at power forward (if healthy )
Daniels or Walker at small forward.
I think it would be a great tenacious defensive lineup (again assuming Garnett is healthy) which would be able to defend opposing young, athletic, quick lineups very well, especially on the perimeter, which has been a big problem for the team lately especially for Pierce and Allen.
It would also be a lineup that could still score, since most of the players (except maybe for Walker) have decent offensive games and still rebound with Perk, Garnet, Rondo and Daniels on the floor.
Again we have not seen this line up yet this year by Doc, but I think it would be just what the Doctor ordered and would be a energetic and dynamite team on defense which would be very interesting to watch.
I say lets use this lineup and fight fire with fire, what do the rest of you think?
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Hudson gives up a lot of size at shooting guard. While Rondo and Hudson may get a lot of steals, opposing guards are going to be able to post one of them up. Maybe Tony Allen? Not that I would ever put him on the court, but if the exercise is solely to have a line up that can defend athletic players…
Pierce has been their best defensive player this year, so it seems odd not to have him out there, but Daniels can fill that role.
True...
Hudson and Rondo do give up size at both guard positions and should not be put on the court when they are matched against taller guards.
I think though they would be a great duo against opposing teams with small back court players.
Both would be tenacious on defense, can bring the ball up the court and both can score, especially Hudson.
this is a great question to ask… it’s obvious more teams are picking up on this weakness of the C’s and I don’t see how Doc and the crew are adjusting. especially that Magic game, it seemed like they were just running the C’s into the ground..
I think getting our quick defenders in there isn’t the worst idea, Rondo with T. allen and daniels, but then who do you put down low? pierce at the 4?
No
With all due respect, you seem to have been oblivious to the fact that your lineup is sitting the guy who has far far far and away been the Celtics best player this season: Pierce.
There is no way in hell, in any game against any lineup that Daniels or Walker would be preferable to Pierce at SF. Period. Yes, he needs rest and those guys need minutes at SF to spell him. But he is so far above them in level of play your suggestion makes no sense.
I also echo the concern that Hudson at #2 with Rondo at #1 puts you at a height disadvantage in the back court compared to Ray or Daniels there at at least one of those spots. I do like Hudson a lot but I don’t like the above lineup at all except maybe when the other team is going all small.
If you really want to inject young athleticism into the lineup you don’t need to change the starting lineup, but rather mix in more minutes through the course of the game for the more athletic youngsters. I think you’d want to include Williams in the mix if athleticism is the goal. Ultimately it comes down to matchups where Doc needs to pick which individuals make sense at the given moment.
I only omit Pierce
Because he at times has problems guarding very quick, agile small forwards.
He is a great defender against bigger small forwards, like Lebron, but I think he does struggle against these more athletic small forwards.
Its only when Pierce struggles against these type of players I think throwing in quicker more athletic defenders like Walker and Daniels would be a good idea.
Again I only advise and think the above defensive lineup would be a good idea to put on the court in limited spot duty minutes when the defense of our regular rotation of players is being broken down by opposing teams.
I agree with you Doc must pick players that make more sense at the given moment which I think he does not do a great job of.
I also agree Williams could be in the defensive line up I propose, probably as a substitute for Garnett or Perk.
this is why we shouldnt trade for a guy like nocioni, he does nothing to end this conversation
but a line up i use in 2k10 (i know its a video game but still) when playing the hawks bulls etc.
rondo q paul shelden and kg…. seems to be the quickest most agile lineup capable of running the floor with the run n gun teams now i know shelden’s d is better in the game than in real life and kg doesnt have his full quickness back, yet it still seams to work and i dont think ive seen doc ever play those 5 together
