4 In A Row, C's Beat Heat

Celtics make it 4 wins in a row by beating the Miami Heat.

  • Big game by KG leading with 24 points including a big shot to put the game away at the end.
  • Another double double for Rajon Rondo.
  • Another double double for Kendrick Perkins.
  • DWade is still awesome, but he can't do it alone and the supporting cast just isn't there yet.

LOL

So who was it who said that Wade was almost as good as LeBron?

Err…no.

Except for that one big trey, Ray Allen was horrible offensively in the 2nd half, but his defense on Wade was excellent. If the 35 year-old Ray Allen can take away your game, you ain’t that good.

Wade

is still better than wannabe golden child.

the defense is effort was still not there except for few ocasions

remember in Q3 wade was left was open? nobody was sticking to him from baseline to the arc.

so many bad typos

the defense effort was still not there except for few occasions

remember in Q3 wade was left wide open? nobody was sticking to him from baseline to the arc.

Panic Button

The panic button is still out in the open. Just remember the third quarter, in which the Celtics were simply awful.

by Brickowski on Nov 29, 2009 8:47 PM EST reply actions

Gonna blame Sheed for the 3d Q

The Cs were awful in the 3d, but don’t you think Sheed stood out? His defense was atrocious.

I’m tempted to let him off the hook for Beasley, who’s just so much quicker and probably a mismatch. But Wallace’s feet were in cement on the defensive end. What sealed it for me was watching Jermaine O’Neal sail by as Wallace played flat-footed turnstile defense. O’Neal just isn’t all that quick any more. I don’t expect Sheed to be able to abuse him the way Perk was doing, but I did expect him to at least offer a little resistance.

From my perspective, most of Wade’s damage that quarter consisted of him taking tough jumpers over Ray – who stayed in front of him, and close, but wasn’t tall enough to really contest .

by Sophomore on Nov 29, 2009 10:30 PM EST up reply actions

Follow-up

This isn’t the first time Sheed’s feet were so slow. So the question is – is it that he can’t go any faster, or that he won’t?

its only there for those who don’t know the game.

Well defensivley

This team still isn’t where it wants to be, right now they are winning games offensively, not defensively

Perk Smash

That pick he set on Wade (who certainly flopped) to free Ray for the big dagger with 90 seconds to go was devastating and a huge play you won’t see in the box score. Great game from Perk, KG and Ray in the clutch.

When Perk was asked what he thought of Howard winning the gold medal this summer, he responded: "What’s his impression of me after I won a ring?"

by Green17 on Nov 29, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply actions

and RR too

Perk is our very own SunSetter Retractable Awning!!!!

and he too comes with a Certificate of Authenticity !!!!

He sets the screen, provides the shade……..and really cools the Heat!!!!

Flop?

I don’t think Wade flopped. He just hit a stone wall. Usually such picks work that way from the side where the guy getting picked doesn’t see the picker. Wade was coming straight on and had to see Perk. My take on this is that he didn’t flop, but hoped he’d get the call. It was suicidal on Wade’s part.

And thinking of calls. How about the one where O’Neill stepped on Sheed’s foot twice as O’Neil was falling backwards and Sheed gets called for a foul. It was either a walk or charge on O’Neil. The importance of that play is it demonstrates how far Sheed has come in controlling his temper. If there was ever a play where he would explode, that was it.

kg was the well deserved player of the game but perk was magnificent and a beast. i hope he works on his free throws because he is getting to the line too much to be missing like he is. sheed flat out stank in the third period and was more than a step behind. he’s still out of shape. miami is not a great team, but they can play and wade is special. he is not as good as lebron but is more likeable .

by nazzbo on Nov 29, 2009 9:12 PM EST reply actions

PERK

Perk gave us a mismatch on nearly every play. Just swallowed up O’Neal on defense, and couldn’t be stopped cutting to the hoop.

He did to O’Neal what Beasley did to Wallace, but more dependably and within the team scheme.

Also, as usual, Perk played phenomenal team D.

Panic button

Still got my finger, poised. But a nice start, it would seem. I love the 85 points part, that’s for sure. We win it with defense. How did Daniels look on D, by the way?

by Big_Easy on Nov 29, 2009 9:21 PM EST reply actions

Way to early to be pushing a panic button esp after this game. LOL

by NoraG1 on Nov 29, 2009 9:48 PM EST up reply actions

BTW

We’re really going to second-guess Danny’s second-round drafting? Really?

by Big_Easy on Nov 29, 2009 9:22 PM EST reply actions

Road Warriors

6-1 so far in road games. Not bad. Perk & KG held it down tonight. Rondo’s 11 assists to 1 turnover is starting to sound typical.

Wade is an incredible player, but they need him to do too much.

As far as the bench goes, I’d almost prefer the energy of Baby, Daniels, Williams, Hudson to the slack D that Sheed & House have been playing. If the bench isn’t scoring or holding leads, what good are they?

by LuckyNumber07 on Nov 29, 2009 10:02 PM EST reply actions

6-1

add it to the list of #1 things the Celtics lead the NBA in. would love to type more, just can’t fit the rest on 1 page, probably have to print a million page book.

Alot of work

yea team is struggling, but they always find a way to win…they dont give up depsite poor play. But right now they have ALOT of work to do, esp if they wanna win a chip!

by kelly811 on Nov 29, 2009 10:05 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Not always, obviously — just 75% of the times.

Love the win, but one question

Why is Shelden only getting playing time in the first half now? I just don’t get it.

by vinnie on Nov 29, 2009 10:33 PM EST reply actions

Coming back to earth?

He still is pounding the boards, making free throws and making open shots when he gets them. I have not seen any change in his game, but all of a sudden he is not playing in the second half of games.

my favorite thing about the game

All five Boston starters scored in double digits.

by mmmmm on Nov 29, 2009 10:59 PM EST reply actions

I liked the win

I see a team strarting to regain their stride. Is it possible to be 13-4 and not be a good team? I mean we’re basically tied for first on the East and around here it seems like we’re going to Secaucus. Keep it up C’s..

by BWC on Nov 29, 2009 11:16 PM EST reply actions

agree

lots of people still think we play in the Meadlowands and our team is from NJ, actually no. Kevin Garnett.

by basketblll on Nov 29, 2009 11:59 PM EST up reply actions

I've said it before

That if the Celtics were 16-1 now instead of 13-4, people would just say it was another tough win that proved their superiority to the rest of the league, kind of like in our 27-2 run last year. The Celtics are clearly not where they want to be, but beating the Heat in their house while preventing them from scoring 90 points is easily a good step into the right direction.

by Tai on Nov 30, 2009 12:51 AM EST up reply actions

SHEED

stunk it up in the 3rd..but we finally saw him in the low post for a few nice buckets-

by CELTICZ4LIFE on Nov 30, 2009 1:09 AM EST reply actions

Like Tommy said...

They nearly beat themselves. There were a few terrible turnovers that were basically unforced errors including Pierce’s pass which hit Rondo in the back. That third quarter defense with Sheed and Scal in there was a bad matchup for Beasley who is just more athletic than either of them.

Going to Secaucus? No, just want this team to keep improving. Miami is not that good a team.

by Surferdad on Nov 30, 2009 6:44 AM EST reply actions

Critical win for the road..

This was a great battel and an excellent win for the Celtics but they are going to have to step up the intesnsity and carry it with them on the road if we want to continue this streak.

by BostonKennedy on Nov 30, 2009 12:52 PM EST reply actions

Jeff Clark called it again... one of the best wins this year I think

Back a week plus ago Jeff predicted this run, I doubted it and pointed out the uncertainty displayed recently… the lack of dominance was making folks cry “OLD”…
Jeff, ya gotta good feel for this team keep it up…
