Goodbye, J.R.: C's Decline Contract Option For 2010-11
The only other player [besides Joe Alexander] from the first-round class of 2008 to have their third year option declined was the Celtics' J.R. Giddens.
For clarification, this means that J.R.'s contract won't be renewed for next season. He'll be an unrestricted free agent, and can still sign with the Celtics. He'll still be on the roster until the end of the year, barring some sort of trade.

I'm not really disappointed about this.
J.R Giddens just isn’t good enough for the NBA… He played quite poorly when he was playing with the Celtics and the only thing he’s done well is rebound 13 times in one game.
By the way, the new layout is TERRIBLE. It’s way too white and plain. I prefered the other layout a lot more. Could someone tell me if there is some sort of layout option I can click on to switch to the other. And no, I won’t get used to this one. It’s just beyond terrible.
I'm sure there will be some tweaks...
But overall, I think the layout is here to stay. You can play around with adjusting the width of the layout (narrow or wide), but there’s no way to default back to the previous version.

yep, there will be some tweaks
but overall I like the changes a lot
and hey, …you’ll get used to it (sorry, couldn’t resist)

Ehh I'll try to get used to it, I guess...
Sorry if I came out immature with my previous post. Just finished drinking my coffee so I’m less cranky right now. The new layout just seems too “newspaper-y” for my tastes. The articles just don’t look good in the middle. Looks like they are blending together.
You guys are saying there are going to be tweaks so I can’t wait to see those. :)
I always hate new layouts.
But every time they change I miss the old one. Thanks for all the hard work. The site is excellent.
Giddens unfortunately was blessed with a very small head.
Where’s the brain doctor when you need him.

trade
I assume he’ll be gone via trade by Feb. – most likely packaged with Tony and/or Scal

Yep...
Just one more expiring contract…

with Daniels on board
JR is kinda redundant
If Walker gets healthy, I think it will be interesting to see if either one gets any minutes
that said, both are nice to have around in the event of an injury but at this point I think either one could be easily replaced by comparable talent on the free agent market or the draft next year

I'd hang on to Walker if possible...
I think he’s a better player, but more importantly, we have him at our option for the next two seasons on a minimum deal. It’s a sweetheart contract.

Walker's the younger, smarter player.
But while unfortunately JR seemed to have TA’s brain—let’s just hope Billy doesn’t prove to have TA’s (and Leon’s) knees.
Daniels making JR redundant...
is one serious compliment to JR!
at least we can finally be rid of the silly arguments about how good Giddens is going to be, how he’s misunderstood because he plays on a good team with no minutes. There were minutes galore to be had last year and they guy never saw the court. he’s dreadful, and never should have been drafted by the Cs.
hopefully his contract can now be put to good use. considering Rajon’s new deal, we will not have cap space next year so this should increase the chances of a deadline expiring contracts deal for an actual NBA player. I like the rockets, but I hope they really struggle so morey might send us Battier….
David West
I keep saying that the big name guy I expect to be traded is David West. Will NO take a bunch of garbage, probably not but maybe with BBD and a 1st round pick and cap filler, which we have plenty of it might be possible. He has a great salary (he is way under paid).
I know, it’s wishful thinking, but the Lakers may have thought that right up to the time Memphis agreed to send then Pau for 2 boxes of toilet paper, a commode brush and 12 packs of Twinkees.
Just need one good role player
We just need one more good role pllayer. no drama queens, ie marbury. one solid 3. a quicker version of scal would be great!

give giddens a chance
it takes some players longer than others to find themselves in the nba. He hasnt had the ideal situation here to say the least. I’m not saying he will ever be a star in this league, but I think it’s premature to say he doesn’t belong at all.
It’s not worth picking up his option for next year because he hasnt done anything to prove that he’s worth it, but he may come back for less, who knows. Would I be against including him in a trade package? Not at all. He does seem to have a good head on his shoulders so far this season though.
Good
They must know what they have in Bill Walker, who can clear the Burj Dubai in a single bound and, less impressively, give us decent minutes off the bench.
At least you didn't pick him 8th overall.
But hey, it’s not like my Bucks need good young talent…oh wait.
The Bucks only really need one of those words
Wherever you can get it.
I support the Tornado Release [See: Joakim Noah]
not a surprise
not a surprise. would have been nice if he showed more.
figure he’s gone at the deadline with TA and Scal.
Was trying to figure a way this could backfire and the closest I can get is that House and Daniels both walk at the end of the year leaving just Walker under contract as a backup wing. Leaves just the draft, vet min and MLE to get replacements. Not terribly reassuring but next year’s draft pick should be able to deliver what JR has delivered so far—>meaning even if House and Daniels walk, having JR isn’t going to solve anything except having a warm body.
lets just get rid of all out young players while we at it and keep praying that we sign all the time.
i dont see where all the Giddens hate is coming from. we all know Doc hates playing youngsters. JR has never been given significant time to prove what he can do
he played a total of 1:18 in 6 games last season, how much are yall really expecting to see? its like yall expecting a miracle every time he gets on the court, not to mention the teammates he’s playing with
they asked him to be a defensive player and thats what hes been doing so far
