I suspect Davis isn't the fool he pretends to be.
I suspect Davis has merely learned that for him, with his personality and highly specialized physical gifts, and in his very particular circumstances, he can profit by freely speaking to the sports media without first putting his thoughts through the same filters that most of us employ most of the time. He’s learned that if he says anything particularly foolish, it’s unlikely to be much counted against him. And if he happens to stumble into anything marginally entertaining or insightful, then he’s likely to be overly celebrated for doing so. Charles Barkley has made a nice fortune doing this for years.
Just to be clear (though probably needlessly)...
One can play the fool without being a fool. The play Hamlet had to do with that theme. (Though I don’t want to see Glen Davis strutting about in tights.)
