Amare Questions Perk's Maturity
Stoudemire questions Perkins' maturity - Globe
Phoenix's Amar'e Stoudemire was asked about Perkins' maturity in his sixth NBA season. The Suns forward was quite candid.
"He''s a solid player out there, he loves to get physical. He's aggressive," Stoudemire said. "He keeps a lot of confrontation going. We try to play smart basketball from our standpoint. We try to stay out of the confrontation, really and just execute our plays offensively and defensively. But seeing sometimes he wants to keep it up, always mean, always mad. He don't even have fun out there. He needs to learn to have fun on the basketball court and enjoy his life, enjoy the game."
Don't listen to him Perk. You be you.

Like Amare has any room to talk. Perk has plenty of fun out there. Beasting is fun. And off the court he practically glows when talking about Kendrick Jr. Amare just wishes he could beast like Perk.

Amare isn’t exactly the most mature player either..

LOL
I think Perk is enjoying the ring on his finger. Playing the way he does is a BIG reason why he has one. Something Amare won’t be seeing anytime soon. I’m guessing he just don’t like getting pushed around.

mature?
everytime amare dunks the ball he has to make some sort of gesture to the crowd to prove how much he loves himself

What did Amare say?? LOL...
Is this from the same guy who elbowed KG after KG dunked in his face last year? I believe Drucci pasted the Youtube video in the forums.
Look in the mirror, Amare. And at same time respect the ring that Perk has and earned.
Defense wins games (And Championships)!

LOL
Amare “fun” = 0 ring
PERKINS MAD = 1 ring and counting

always mean, always mad
I loved that line. For real though, from an outside perspective I think Amare seems dead on. How many times do we all joke about never seeing Perk smile, and how Perk always has a scowl on his face? Now I think Perk is having fun and that’s just how he gets down, but I still think what Amare said is pretty acurate. Perk likes to play tough and physical and never lets up. I wouldn’t have it any other way. We don’t say Perk is a beast for nothing.

Where Amare’s ring. Maybe he should take a lesson from the beast! LOL

If Amare had half the heart and intensity that Perk has he could be the best player in the NBA. To bad he’d rather skip through life. Perk is the Beast!

spoken like a true offense first, let someone else do it on defense player

Stoudamire has a point
what matters is the scoreboard, not the woofing
the key is consistency – execution on every possession; if you get caught up in the jawing back and forth, you might not be focusing enough on what you need to be doing
it’s positive if you channel your emotions into your play as a team; it’s negative if you focus your energy on the refs, or winning a battle of words, or defeating your opponent one on one
Perk does need to develop more consistency and evenness in his play and focus on executing; everything that doesn’t contribute to winning is a waste of time and energy
Stoudamire might not be the right person to deliver the message; pretend it was said by Doc or Duncan or Nash
the Suns put on a clinic last night; they stuck to their game plan; when the C’s scored, the Suns didn’t hang their heads and point fingers; they ripped the ball out of the nets and pushed it up the floor
when they’re rested, it seems like the C’s are better than any other team in the league; but when they’re tired, their rotations and perimeter defense are slow, and teams can beat them if they run and if they hit a high percentage of their shots — it probably won’t happen all that often … but it’s an area of concern
I’m glad the C’s got this test early; it gives them something to work on, and they can focus on getting better — all of the talk about “best team ever” and 72 wins made me nervous; the way to get there is by working at it, not talking about it

the better amare plays on offense the more i lose respect for him. there’s no way someone can be That good on offense and be so bad on defense. have you ever seen kg get so many easy tip ins?? he does nothing to protect the basket. how do they let him get away with this?? and he criticizes perk. hilarious. talk about a guy who doesn’t get it. if i was perk that’s just how i’d respond if asked, “amare’s a nice guy but he just he doesn’t get it.”

Amare has credibility?
Nice to see amare living out the ‘nba cares’ program, haha

Perk probably DIED laughing when he read this.

Ehh..
Amare is way off on this, some players are good because they play loose and happy and some players are good because they play tough and mean. Doesn’t mean someone isn’t mature because they play one way or another, just means they have a different style. Seriously Amare, who cares? At least Perk has a ring so something must be working for him ;)

How is Perk playing his role immature?
pretty off base
by tomatoc on Nov 7, 2009 3:11 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Perk?
Sometimes he lets his anger take himself out of the game. It sometimes is hard for him to
focus when he has gotten screwed by the ref’s time after time. He is a physical ballplayer,
but he doesn’t get the respect out there that he deserves. My only wish for him is that he
plays his game and stays out of foul trouble as much as possible. Keep the tech’s down, that is where the respect from the ref’s will come.

Amare is a punk. We’ve seen his dirty antics before. He has no business questioning anyone else’s maturity.

What's with this headline?
Maybe I don’t read well, but where does Amar’e question Perk’s maturity?

um
Why do I still love Amare? And he is just saying what most of us think anyway. I didn’t even recognize the Perk wedding photos because he was smiling in them.
I love Perk for who he is though. You know you are getting 100% from the guy every game.

Is this the same Amare who probably cost his team a playoff series by leaving the bench after Nash’s flailing into the scorers table?
by Finkelskyhook on Nov 7, 2009 4:32 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
fun?????
at this level it’s about winning in June…you try to maintain/have fun when your losing 18 in a row…..our fun days are over….like Pat Riley says"there’s winning or MISERY"…let’s win

Ill take a loss Once every 7 games
Loose one out of every seven…that’s a 70 win season. I don’t forsee many nights like last night. The defense a was awful. Rotations were a step slow all night. Had it been against another team besides mr Nash’s team we would have won even playing so poorly on D. I don’t feel too bad because I say a suns team hitting every damn shot they took it seemed. Hot shooting team…little bit slow D equals a loss.

Amare
Amare’s idea of fun is taking naps on the defensive end of the floor. And without Nash, his offensive numbers would be cut in half.

I love Perk the way he is
He would be pretty useless if he was as soft as Amare. Actually, I wish Ray Allen would take an example from Perkins and KG and amp up the intensity and attitude himself.
by hpantazo on Nov 7, 2009 6:46 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I’m just about fed up with Ray. Seems like he’s over dribbling and turning the ball over way to much.

Just my thought--"No, he doesn't!"
And we’ve all watched Perk since high school. With his bride and his baby and his taking the solid, but not spectacular contract, Perk has matured just fine, thank you.

Ask the Hornets
Toughness is invaluable..
Perk is rock solid, he’s gotta be mean, when we play ORL I WANT him mean and str8 taking it to Dwight Howard defensively. Dude’s got character, and takes the game seriously, which is what I want from my Center… he’s a kool dude if you listen to his interviews.
but on the court…WE MUST PRO TECT THIS HOUUSE

I don't see how Amare questions his maturity?
Am I missing the point or is the title not using the right word. All I see is Amare saying Perk is an aggressive, physical player, but he never smiles and doesn’t seem to be having fun on the court when he plays. I agree with his statement, however that doesn’t mean Perk isn’t having fun. I can’t read Perk’s mind, so I don’t know, but to work at something this long and that hard you have to enjoy it, he just doesn’t show he enjoys the game when playing. I know he works hard and is one of my favorite players, but Amare is right, at first glance it doesn’t look like Perk is having fun out there.
However I still fail to see how this question’s Perk’s maturity.
by Scribbles on Nov 8, 2009 3:28 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I agree
He needs to learn to have fun on the basketball court and enjoy his life, enjoy the game.
Doesn’t seem to be bashing him too harshly, all he said was that he looks like he isn’t having fun. We see Perkins smile sometimes, we know he’s having fun. But Amar’e only sees him twice as season, he hardly knows Perkins.
Who just asks that question though? Can anyone find the question word for word?
