why have the lakers only played 5 road games?

there is such a thing as frontloading. i know everything eventually evens out, but winning early -- done by the lakers thus far mostly at home -- establishes momentum and an intimidation factor that may carry through the entire season. i just think it's unfair for a team to be playing fewer road games than the rest of the league. i noticed san antonio has the next fewer road games at 6. who draws up these schedules, anwway? does stern have any hand at this?

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

There is no doubt Stern has some hand in this but I dont think the NBA is intentionally trying to give the Lakers an advantage. The Staples Center, being in LA, has a very busy schedule and is usually booked for something or the other. Its hard to fit NBA games there. Also the Lakers also have one of the highest strength of schedules in the league, I think its top 5 or something, meaning they havent been playing pushover teams. I do agree with you that they still need to be tested on the road and all those home games can build momentum and confidence for the rest of the season, but i dont think theres a pro laker conspiracy or anything, most likely just a fluke. Laker Fans will complain when they have all those road games later on anyway.

I think its a good thing

Because we have a better record than the Lakers at this stage and their home heavy schedual (to me) has discredited their record.

We have an 8 game road trip in january

We’ll barely see the staples center during that time….it’ll even out

41 at home and 41 away

Why does it even matter what is or isn’t fair? If your team is a champion and you believe in it who care what everyone else is doing. The Celtics rely on defense no matter where they play so who cares. It is just about playing night in and night out. Nobody cares. Just let them play the game and the best team will win the title. Let’s stop whining about who has or doesn’t have a favorable schedule. If you believe in your Celtics then stand by them. Don’t expect for them to win or loose based on a schedule. C’mon these are the Celtics.

Eh, not so fast that “away” game against the clippers is basically a 42nd home game

good point, and that’s more than one “away” game against the clips, isn’t it?

It evens up late in the season...

LA`s final 41 games this season :

26 on the road…..only 15 at home!

yeah, yeah i know it evens out ....

here’s the thing, many things can happen in the last 41 games of the season. we should know this fully well as celtics fans. so you may have a tough first half of the season and a supposedly easier second half … but that assumes everybody stays healthy.

on the other hand, you have a lakers team that belongs to a conference that performs relatively better at home. so a strong first half of the season is almost expected from them. and remember they came out of the gate with gasol injured. so a majority of games at home boosted their cause.

i appreciate the responses … let’s just say i wouldn’t be “whining” if the disparity (12 road games for the celts thus far) wouldn’t be as huge.

Grammy's

I think it is because they have a 7-game road stretch because of the Grammy’s. The schedule was probably made to compensate for this stretch. I remember thinking the same thing last year around this time.

Lackers Home Schedule

Everyone keeps making this out to the Lackers advantage but I beg to differ. It seems to me that, on average, players are more likely to get injured as the season goes along. Since it is harder to win on the road and the Lackers will be playing more road games late in the season that this will ultimately work to their disadvantage. It’s hard to say for sure but it seems that the odds would suggest it is more of a disadvantage then an advantage.

why have the lakers only played 5 road games?

because staples center gets booked up for concerts and various events such as the grammys from jan-march, meaning the lakers typically play more road games in the latter portion of the season. its been like that for a while.
and them having so many home games at the beginning of the season isnt all that great
check out some of the road trips they go on after the All star game…theyre brutal….
