Lou Williams' injury created the perfect storm for a return to the city of brotherly love for the controversial Iverson. I wish I could say I didn't care, but to be honest I'm happy he's back in the league.

could've used him

for $650,000, he’d have been a great backup to rondo

Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk

Yeah, I'm with you

Wish we’d have brought him on board. Sometimes when Rondo leaves the game the offense slows to a halt. Oh well.

I'm happy about this for

Allen Iverson. He still has some gas left in the tank and Philly is a known quantity for him. I really thought the Knick would sign him while they wait for the LeBron bus, but it would have been a hornet’s nest for Iverson himself.

This makes Philly better but not good.

Good for the Sixers, good for the League

as long as it doesn’t end in some kind of cataclysmic meltdown, this is a sold win-win. Allen Iverson is as much of an icon as the NBA has ever seen. having him finish his career in Philly is perfect. my buddy is a diehard Sixer fan, and he couldn’t be more elated.

I Feel Sorry for Eddie Jordan

It will be interesting to see what happens when Louis Williams returns from injury.

by Brickowski on Dec 2, 2009 12:43 PM EST reply actions

Isn't it obvious?

Iverson will continue to start, otherwise he’ll have a hissy fit. The guy is a great, great player but he never learned humility and team play.

Glad he's back in the league

I still wish the C’s had signed him.

Signing ai would’ve been bad forthe c’s. stephon marbury in sheep’s clothing

I strongly disagree

Iverson is a serious competitor that wants to win, something Marbury never was. The situation would have been similar to the Randy Moss deal a few years ago. Guess we’ll never know though.

Disagree

Iverson is a far superior player that can put a team on his back all the way to the finals. He also has shown he can still play. Unfortunately, Steph couldn’t play anymore and was good in his prime, but never great. Iverson could have contributed.

Disagree

Very glad the C’s didn’t try to sign him. AI’s game is predicated on dribbling the ball, which stops ball movement and would be terrible for the C’s.

In his own mind only.

Most overrated player in sport’s history.

Hopefully poor Eddie Jordan has his resume’ up to date.

Philly just mailed in their season to sell a few tickets.

....

We only don’t want AI cause he won’t come off the bench. Calling him overrated is simply deluded.

by Tai on Dec 2, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

Overreated? That's your opinion

Ask anybody INCLUDING MJ if they would want to guard him even not in his prime. He has the sickest crossover and can win the game for any team. I wouldn’t underestimate the Sixers with A.I. and A.I.2 with Young, Brand, and Lou. That’s a good team who will make a run in the playoffs against the right team. They won’t win a championship but they definitely got better.

Most overrated player in sport’s history? Did you see how this guy played basketball up until 2003-ish?

The guy would have looked great in Green this year, but I like seeing him back in Philly (hopefully) to finish his career.

by grafite86 on Dec 2, 2009 2:27 PM EST reply actions

AI doesnt believe in the need to practice. Isnt that enough information?

Basketball is a team sport and the team basketball is Celtic basketball. Just doesnt make sense here else DA would have signed him.

I am hoping Wyc wanted AI while DA and Doc said no.

There is "I" in AI

More sizzle than steak, no rings, throw up 50 shots and score 20…and play no defense. No, I dont want this thug to return.

by Porky Appleyard on Dec 2, 2009 3:07 PM EST reply actions

Agree 100% that he’s the most overrated player ever. But he’s fun to watch— so long as he is on the other team.

by Brickowski on Dec 2, 2009 3:18 PM EST reply actions

I think he would have helped the C's

The big 3 along with Sheed would have been able to get him to play a team game. Even a mega ego like AI would have been humbled. He would have been a valuable asset.

Extremely Bold Prediction...

It appears “somewhat unlikely” that this signing will have a “seismic impact” on the “balance of power” within the Eastern Conference of the NBA.

But, one never knows….

by Title 18 on Dec 2, 2009 6:05 PM EST reply actions

Signing AI would have been waaaay too risky. We already have a the league’s best 9-man rotation, there was no reason whatsoever to risk our chemistry asking AI to backup a 22 yr old.

I don’t get the constant inclanations around here to tinker with the roster. When you’ve got this much talent, the best moves are the ones you don’t make.

by D Dub on Dec 2, 2009 6:14 PM EST reply actions

Good point

Even though I believe it would (see may) have helped it would have restriced Eddie’s minutes and may have caused some chemistry issues on the offensive end. I think he addition of AI would have improved us however there is a small risk signing a player like AI (see Marbury). I’m just glad he landed in Phili rather than one of the other contenders.

thank god Philly signed him

so that there can finally be an end to the “C’s should sign AI” threads/forums.
