Why did Celtics trade Joe Johnson(2001 draft)
can anyone please tell me why the Celtics traded their highly rated draft pick Joe Johnson to the Suns for two veterans who only played for the Celtics for a year each.As use all know now that Joe Johnson is one of the best 3 point shooters in the league (and now for the hawks) starting as soon as he left Boston. They should have give the lad a chance, just think of the team the Celtics would have had then instead of them being one of the worst teams in the Nba. Al jefferson is another example of how little Boston seen in him. They should never have traded Al,look what hes doing now.
i know its history now but im still really annoyed in how they were both treated in Boston. He could have been a legend.
Also just on the 2001 Draft!!(which was a major bust for us when we had 3 first round picks) and we passed on Tony Parker!! omg, Gerald Wallace and Bredan Haywood for Kendrick Brown and Joe Forte who turned out to be gigantic busts.!!
Why were we soo bad in the Draft!!!the amount of titles we could have picked up along the way lol!!!
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

they should have never traded AL?
you would trade the celtic championship for al jefferson
here's a guy with no perspective
when the Celtics traded Joe Johnson, he wasn’t the game dominating player he is today. He was a rookie with an uncertain future. The Celtics were looking for a deep playoff run, which we wouldn’t get with Joe Johnson. and keep in mind, Chris Wallace was GM.
And Al jefferson? the team loved Al and knew his potential, but a championship was more important. and really? KG vs. Big Al? who wouldn’t make that trade?
sure, if the Celtics never made a trade, our starting five would be Billups, Johnson, Pierce, Jefferson, Perkins. Pretty impressive, but there’s no use dredging up these kind of situations. past is past, 2010 Championship is on its way.
The reason is simple, we had one of the worst GM’s in the league at that time, Wallace was simply horrible in judging talent as with the case when he was enamored with Kedrick Brown, I mean this guy could have been had if they really wanted to in the 2nd round, instead he used the 11th pick on him when Troy Murphy, a certified PF/C and a Celtic need at that time was still available, then on the 21st pick, heck they drafted Forte, when as youv’e said TP or Haywood was still available. To make matters worst they decided to ship JJ to Phoenix rather than Brown…These simple decisive moves were downright ugly it set the franchise back another 5 yrs in building a quality championship team, If Ainge was our GM since 2001 we would have been champ contenders by 2005.
Chris Wallace along with Rick Pitino ran this team to the ground..In fact, even when Ainge was our Exec and decision maker, he was still making the wrong decisions as I suspect Wallace had some influence over him, not until Wallace left did Ainge finally right the ship.
"No I’m not KG. Not at all, but I’m Big Baby Glen Davis from LSU, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I’m not the Big Ticket. I’m the Ticket Stub. Don’t count the Ticket Stub out. You might need the ticket to get in the game, but you leave with the ticket stub, because you’ll never forget this game."
Wallace has since added to his "GM credentials"...
In 2008, he traded Pau Gasol to LA for Kwame Brown!
It was more like...
gave away rather than traded.

Would you...
rather have Marc or Pau? Oh yeah, the draft choices. Like in the late 1st round, right?

Crittenton?!?
His NBA career ended at age 22!
He played for 3 teams in 2 years…hit 23% of his 3-pointers…63% his FT`s
yes yes
but at the time of the trade he had talent… they didnt know he was gonna end up this way… and they should have played him some.. not burieed him in the back of the bench

Trading JJ
Mattrob23. Yes in hindsight it may have been a mistake but do you have a crystal ball? Mistakes happen and it can be hard to judge young talent. Overall though, wouldn’t you say life with the Cs has been pretty good since those grim pre-Garnett days? We traded AL for Garnett , got Ray and a championship and are competitive for at least another year. Life aint so bad you know….
