Trade Ray for McGrady Rebuttal
you guys are brutal...instead of acting like a bunch of drama queens, why don't you come up with some scenarios of your own in which you make this team better...so you all think my idea sucks, fine...it was just an idea, but you guys react like Danny takes orders from me...i guarantee some of you judas' will turn on Ray if he has a shooting slump in the playoffs again...and do you think he'll settle for whatever we offer him next year??? again if you have a better trade idea please share...you all know that KG and Paul are untouchable so where else can we improve? you are all assuming that McGrady is done...so lets wait and see...how easily you forget that he was the second best player in this league...the man scored 13 pts in 33 seconds...how many of you are willing to bet your house that this team will win it all without making a move??? sure he was injured last year, but he played hurt for almost half a season before the decision to have surgery, and the man is dying to play again...And so what if his contract is expiring, he made his money, who in their right mind would walk away from playing for more rings with KG and Paul for a reasonable contract???McGrady may not be the solution but he could potentially be the best player on the team and IS younger than each of the BIG THREE...would all of you veto trading Ray for Agent Zero, who's is also injury prone, too???....Injuries are part of the game and can happen to anyone at anytime...would you not take Bynum just because he hurt his knee twice??? Be honest...are you confident this team can beat the Fakers as is??? We added PJ and Sam to get it done...Ray is pushing 35...since he's been a Celtic his stats look great on paper but aside from that game 2 he won us against the bulls, you can't really consider him untouchable...I'm all for loyalty but do you remember how fun it was to watch McHale and Parish grow old on a team that was only good enough to lose in the 1st round of the playoffs??? I've lived through the pain of losing Len Bias and Reggie...I bleed green...I go to staples center decked out in my Celtic gear and a Celtic plate on my car...I just want to keep winning championships...maybe McGrady isn't worth Ray's socks like one of you stated...If I'm wrong I'm wrong and I'll admit it, but before you condemn me...why not consider focusing on what really matters...Banner 18...
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

The problem is
McGrady’s still injured. Ray Allen said he was hurt in the playoffs last year, anyways.
Trading for McGrady now isn’t a good idea when we don’t know how much he has left in the tank. He’s not worth it right now.
well I’m reading that he claims he’s ready to play but the rockets are being very cautious with him and are waitng the results of another MRI…they want to make sure he doesn’t come back too soon…like what may have happened with KG last season…what if we had waited till the playoffs started instead of letting him come back for those regular season games…if he was going to re-aggravate it, shouldn’t it have been in the playoffs? The Rockets want to trade him for all the reasons you guys don’t want him…but remember he’d have to pass a physical in order for the trade to be approved anyway right?

why do we need to make any trade at all?
you’re mad cuz we aren’t suggesting trade scenarios (which isn’t true) but the team is championship caliber as it is. could we use some improvement. yea, sure. but not at the expense of breaking up the starting five. especially for a player that hasn’t played seriously for two years. you think KG looks rusty? marbury did? mcgrady is going to look like the tinman when he comes back.
not mad at all
believe me I’m not mad, not even offended…just disappointed…I’m yearning to hear some creative thinking, original thoughts, whether they be trade ideas, coaching strategy, or even share some of your best moments as a C’s fan, whether I agree or disagree, not just looking to give praise and pat each other’s backs of course, but a little support couldn’t hurt right??? if you don’t agree, that’s fine, and I’m interested in reading why, but i think some of the comments were a bit unwarranted…

If you're looking for trade ideas...
There are plenty of them in our forums. Are you registered? If not, check them out:
All the negativity in this town sucks. It sucks, and it stinks, and it sucks. - Rick Pitino
The Problem is TMac
TMac sucks now, he scored 15ppg last year and shot 38%. I’ll take the best 3 point shooter in history, Ray Allen, over that.
"the man scored 13 points in 33 seconds" haha...and?
The man has never been out of the first round
Hes baggage…..im stunned to hear you would even consider trading ray allen for that washed up, out of shape, injured garbage.
There would be potential for him to be our best player?
then we’d lose in the first round
I don't see why you're so bitter about your trade suggestion being shot down
It was ridiculous, and terrible. People reacted like it was ridiculous and terrible. If anything, it would only be surprise if anyone actually agreed with you.
You threw out a ludicrous and poorly-conceived idea, and no one else did, and you’re somehow trying to use that to defend yourself? Here’s a lesson: Not knowing how to solve a problem doesn’t mean you should write down the wrong answer and be all indignant when everyone points out it is the wrong answer.,
Other very illogical points you made which lead people to react the way it did: “T-mac might be the best players on the Celtics team”. Are you serious? Perkins and Rondo are way more valuable than Tracy Mcgrady, for him to be the best players on the Cs, you would need to remove every current starter and maybe even some of the bench.
T-Mac scored 13 in 35 seconds……5 years ago??!!! He hasn’t been a good or even passable player for THREE WHOLE YEARS. Your point is really too far-fetched. Why not get Gary Payton and Chris Webber while we’re at it? After all, the former was once the best defensive PG in the league and the latter the most skilful and versatile offensive big in his generation.
You’re somehow suggesting that we trade for washed-up players, which will somehow boost the chances of winning banner no 18??? “How easily you forget he was once the second best player….”. Well what about Jordan, arguably GOAT? Way better than second best, but do you see any championship calibre teams rushing to dispose of their assets to sign someone way past his prime, with nothing left in the tank?
You are also suggesting trading away a player that fits the offensive scheme perfectly, on the grounds that he might get injured, for a player who is far, far more injury-prone, and is a serial whiner and locker room cancer?
“How many of you are willing to bet your house that we can win without making a move”.
And how many are willing to bet their houses that making an irrational panic move that hurts team chemistry and removes our assets will actually have a positive effect?
I’m willing to bet my house that most people here would bet their houses that your suggested T-Mac trade would guarantee banner 18…..Goes to someone else.
Seriously, if you make a mistake just try and learn from it. No point getting all indignant and self-righteous, it’ll just annoy people massively.

calm down felixthm
First of all if you read my post…not bitter…and it’s not a mistake…it was a suggestion…and if you don’t agree, that’s fine…but once you’re back to baseline and stop to think about it…there’s a reason why so many are thinking of suitable trades for Ray…I really like Ray but if we can find a way to upgrade the team or use his expiring contract…I think it’s a gamble Danny should consider…maybe T-Mac is not the answer but some of you really overreacted…his numbers last year were bad because he played hurt…once again if he can’t pass the physical any trade is null and void…but if he can still play it’s not the worst possible trade scenario…don’t confuse your contempt for a player, because many of you would take a player you dislike if it helps the team, ie. Sheed…

What do you mean by "contempt"?
I personally don’t have anything against T-Mac. I just think he’s washed up. Clearly others agree with me on at least the latter.

the physical means nothing
he can easily pass a physical and still not be able to play, ie. Stephon Marbury. he kept himself in great physical condition, but he didn’t play for over a year and therefore contributed little to nothing for this team. T-Mac hasn’t seriously played in three years!
do I think there might be better options out there than Ray? possibly. but the time to explore those options is once the season is over, not in the middle when we have the best record in the conference and a championship starting five.

No trades needed
All I ever read is people suggesting blockbuster trades that will put us over the top so that we are the clear dominant team in the NBA. The fact is that we are one of the 4 "supercontenders" this season, the others being LA, Orlando and Cleveland so there is no point trying to fix something that isn’t broken. By the trade deadline these "Trade Ray" will look stupid because that’s what they are. We may not win the championship of even get to the finals but we are in a very good position to do so. There are no (reasonable) trades that will put us over the top. Perhaps tinker with the end of the bench or sign Sam Cassell again but there is no need for huge trades.

I do not think you mess with the chemistry of the team and trade Ray...
Unless a great becomes available.
I do not think T-Mac is worth trading for.
I think the C’s are fine and will only get better if they can trade the expiring contracts of Scal and TA worth over 5 million $$$ and try to obtain a strong defending small forward who can score also.
We do not need a blockbuster trade since we are already a good team, but it would be nice to add some more depth to our rosters weak spots to prep us for the playoffs and out title 18 quest.
Here's another opportunity
to let you Celtic fans know that your beloved green machine can’t produce any rebounds. 29th in the league. Guess what? There’s only 30 teams in the league.
“But who is number one?” you might ask. I’ll gladly inform you that it is non other than your very hated Los Angeles Lakers. Put that in your pipe fellas.
Well let me welcome everybody to the wild wild west. A state that's untouchable like Elliot Ness.
Some caveats, of course
The Celtics are 4th in the league in opponent’s rebounding, and their rebounding differential is -0.5. The Lakers are 24th in opponent rebounding and their differential is +1.1. This amounts to a per-game wash…I don’t care if the Celtics are getting 55 rpg or 20 as long as they are controlling the other team. It seems like the Lakers and Celtics are doing the same thing on the boards, but more shots go up in an average Lakers game so there are more rebounds to be had. Of course, the Celtics’ rebounding has looked bad in person in a few games, but I don’t think you are giving a full picture of what these rankings really mean.
Rondo was named after me
Like many of our fellow Celticbloggers, have said -
If we’re gonna do any type of trade with the Rockets, I’d rather it involve Shane Battier. That would give us a legitimate backup 3, and his personality would fit in incredibly well with our locker room – but I’m realistic enough to realize it won’t happen, no need to complain about it and claim I’m a better fan than everyone else.
McGrady, sad as it is, has become a joke. Honestly, if he does manage to string together a full season, he won’t put up the numbers he did 5 yrs ago. We saw what Marbury looked like after a year off, and he wasn’t even injured. McGrady had major knee surgery – and before you try to say KG had knee surgery as well, KG only had a bone spur removed. McGrady had microfracture surgery.
It’s a lot more likely that McGrady will never be the same player he once was, than it is that he comes back and goes back to being a top tier guy again….
Don't Trade Rondo or Perk!
I'd love to have Battier
but I don’t think we have the trade chips to acquire him. Nor do I think Houston would want to let him go since he’s pretty integral to their team’s success. it would be like us getting rid of Perk.
