Robert Horry, Still Looking For Work
Robert Horry wants to play again this season.
The important league-wide development is that Horry rates the Spurs and Celtics as his most-likely landing spots.
Boston, obviously, is not close to Houston. And even Horry jokes about a potential reunion with Celtics GM Danny Ainge and how it will take a nano-second before someone posts the clip of Horry throwing a towel in the face of coach Danny Ainge when they were with the Suns. But the Celtics have the strong lure of a shot at another ring and the stronger lure of point guard Sam Cassell, a close friend from their Rockets days.
"The only person that can really talk me into Boston is Sam," Horry said.

Not my favorite choice
Robert Horry is clutch though, but we really need a big.

great, another undersized forward….
Ainge should put a note on their website, ‘If you aren’t 6’10"+ do not apply’

Big Shot Bob?
I love the guy but he isn’t what we need. Scalabrine can do that. Plus, he is owhere near the consummate pro that PJ was. Being Sam Cassell’s friend is worth bupkus.

Youd rather Big fat Blob than Big Shot Bob?

What exactly isn’t consumate professional about Horry? The fact that he hip-checked a lifelong flopper and whiner who sold it like Horry had shot him? It’s no coincidence that he’s been a champion at almost every stop he’s made in the NBA.
I’d take either PJ or Horry on my team anytime.

It makes sense for the C’s. I hope we can get him

How so? He can’t play the 5, can’t D up at the perimeter and has been out of the league for quite some time now.
Seriously, Scal’s is a MUCH better player than Horry right now, and plays the same exact position(s).

He's been out of the league for half a season
just like PJ Brown was.

Horry
Just being old is not a qualification for being on the team.

I like Pollard better than Horry at this point. We could pick up Shaq if management didn’t mind paying 60 million over the next two years. ( with lux tax) I bet he could be gotten for just and expiring contract. PJ Brown sign and trade?

C's are over the cap, can't pick up Shaq without dropping equivalent salary.
Not possible, in other words.

the one thing that bothers me...
about this is that:
1. he needs to be talked into coming here.
2. the only one that could do it is Sam…
he needs to be talked into coming to the defending champs? and saying that only Sam could do it is kinda disrespectful to Danny, Doc, KG, Paul and Ray….
I mean, he should say “I would LOVE to play for the Celtics!”

FG%
Is Horry really still able to play? He shot 31% from the field and 25% from three in his last season for the Spurs… And as far as I can remember Pop kept him on the bench in the playoffs because he wasn’t able to guard anyone anymore, so I don’t think he could be really helpful..

He's oooold...
I would like Horry from 3 or 4 years ago, but the 2009 version. Last time he played he was obviously old and, as other people mentioned, shot poorly. A poor shooting Horry adds absolutely nothing to the team. Scal can do much better. Just because he is a big name doesn’t mean he can help.

I agree, I wonder if he has anything left.
by Champzilla on Feb 11, 2009 5:27 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
If he had anything left, he would have gotten more PT the past two years.

i am in agreement that he probably has nothing left BUT
he was hurt,. Everyone is forgetting he was hurt i 07/08 His stats show there wasn’t a bad drop off until last year, he was quite serviceable and did well even in the playoffs in 06/07.
So I dunno. I could convince myself that he is great if we sign him:>)

If being tall was the only requirement……POB is taller….just saying….
If Sam is the only one who could talk him into coming to Boston (guess relationship with Danny still is not good), Sam, for once, please keep quiet!

I think
I think we can still find a better big, or maybe make a trade.

Welcome
we need a big man who can contribute for about 15mins a game during the playoffs so he doesnt really need THAT much left in the tank anyway…
with his experience he can definitely help…

Honestly
The dude has a lot of rings … a lot of experience …maybe he lost his hunger in San Anton… and maybe he’s hungry again

So this no defense playing, no rebound grabbing ring wh0r3 should get to come in and take the minutes away from our guy Scalabrine who rightfully earned them? No way, that isn’t cool at all.
It would be one thing if he was an upgrade to our current backup 3/4, but he is not. His position just isn’t one of need for this team. We need a Center, plane and simple.

Could use him in the playoffs
I just don’t see him getting a lot of minutes and being a bench warmer next to Sam Cassell.

Cheap Shot RoB!!!
Wouldn’t it be a hoot if he hit the game winning three in front of Jack Nicholsons nose in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Sign him Danny, Sign him up.
