Cavs’ Fail In Bid For Stoudemire

Yahoo! Sports

Believing that Amare Stoudemire could make the difference with winning an NBA title and ultimately keeping LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers made a bid to the Phoenix Suns for the All-Star power forward, two league sources familiar with the offer said Friday.

Cleveland general manager Danny Ferry offered the expiring contract of Wally Szcerbiak, rookie J.J. Hickson and a first-round pick for Stoudemire earlier in the week, sources said. Anderson Varejao was mentioned in a possible scenario too, sources said.

I love trade deadline week.

These kinds of things make me smile :) I would pay good money to see James and Stoudemire on one team. The Suns would be daft to trade him, but it’d be cool to see this happen.

Thought the Celtic in me (yeh, there is one, somewhere) hopes it does not happen. Mo, Amare and Bron… hhhhh… gives me the shivers.

Please, don't expect me to make sense all the time, I'm Dutch man :')

As a basketball fan, yeh, that would make for a great show, you gotta admit that.

… but I’m a wee lil’ bit of a Celtic fanboy, so it’d be better if it didn’t happen :D

But don’t worry matey, I haven’t the cash to get ‘Mare to the Cav’s, so it’s cool ;)

Cleveland’s first rounder isn’t worth much. The Cavs just don’t have the assets to get it done.

But Detroit does. The deal would be Amare and Robin Lopez for Sheed, Stuckey and Maxiell.

Now *that*, I would like.

That would make the Pistons a bit more of a contender. I’d love to see that happen.

So who plays point guard? Iverson? Wouldn’t that leave A.I. as the only one who can create his own shot? I think the rest of those guys need a real playmaker, especially Amare and Rip.

by Bankshot on Feb 14, 2009 8:18 AM EST up reply actions

Sure they need a playmaker. But Stuckey isn’t that guy either. He’s a scorer.

Rip Hamilton can create shots when the need arises.

There are some very good guards in the draft. IMHO that’s where the Pistons will get their playmaker. I’m talking about Teague from Wake Forest, Stephon Curry, Collison from UCLA, Eric Maynor, and A.J. Price, who may turn out to be the sleeper of the bunch.

by Brickowski on Feb 14, 2009 8:28 AM EST reply actions

And if they did the deal, they’d have Amare, who can certainly create his own shot.

Cleveland has a chance to get Amare

If Phoenix doesn’t get better offers, probably because Amare is signaling other teams that he won’t sign an extension with them, Ferry may become the “last man standing”.

Cleveland would have to ramp up the offer, such as Varajoa. As is, that is a terrible offer, worse than what the Lakers paid for Gasol.

by footey on Feb 14, 2009 9:11 AM EST reply actions

the good news= no deal. the bad news= the cavs are on the prowl and have cards to play.

by nazzbo on Feb 14, 2009 10:11 AM EST reply actions

JJ Hickson and wallys expiring contract for Amar’e … Yeah the suns are idiots if they do that deal..theyre getting nothing but cap space…anyone who think JJ hickson is going to blossom into an all star is kidding themselves

The Cavs could throw in D West and Varejao. Then the deal gets alot better for Phoenix.
The question is whether or not this would destroy Cleveland’s chemistry. And can Mike Brown get Amare to play any defense?

I imagine this trade is LeBron’s call.

No coffee yet

I just read this headline as “Cavs’ Fail in Bid for Scalabrine”

Don't think this trade would ever have a chance without Varejao

But if they do throw him in, and a bunch of other filler, I wonder if it’ll really make the Cavs better. Amare cannot be the man on a team with Lebron on it, and I wonder how he will fit in in a defensive minded team. On paper though, it’d be terrifying, for a Cs fan.

amare would be bad for theCavs i think bcuz he dont play D

If I’m not mistaken Stoudemire was recently whining about not being the first option in Phoenix. It’d be awfully fun to see his demeanor on the primadonna’s team when he isn’t an option at all except garbage man.

outrageous

If this trade went down, even with the variations mentioned above, it’d be more outrageous than the pitiful amount LA gave up for Pau.

Something’s up with Danny if this happens. What he gave up for Garnett is far more than either of these deals. Either Mchale hosed Danny or Danny needs to make better friends with other GMs to get these sweetheart deals.
