The Other Shoe
You’d like to think that the Cassell deal is a prelude to something else, perhaps with SAC. But Scal simply doesn’t make enough to get back much in return, even if packaged with TA.
One possibility no one has discussed much is signing PJ solely for the purpose of trading the contrat to match another team trying to dump salary. Is this do-able? Seems like other teams have done this under the current CBA.
If so, the other team pays PJ’s contract for a few months, and the Cs get a decent player in return.
PJ doesn't buy us much
I am pretty sure he was a vet. minimum salary last year and we can only give him something like a 25% raise (Roy can correct me if I’m wrong)
the reason Van Horn was able to be used that way was because his retiring salary was large and he was just resigned for a similar number
