Bryon Russell?

Not sure if this is a rumor or just a name Tim Weisberg is throwing out there, but he drops this name into the potential add list:

But one interesting possibility is Bryon Russell. According to reports, the 38-year-old is trying to get back into the NBA. He's appeared in just one game in the past three years, but if the 13-year veteran can play the trademark defense he was always known for and still hit the occasional 3-pointer, there may be a place for him on the Celtics' bench.

I liked him in his Utah days, don’t know how much he has left on the tank though.

Really scrapping the bottom of the barrell

I think the Celtics need a new rule.

If you have been retired for more then one season, you are probably done.

There was an interview on the daily dime about him wanting to make a return..nice interview, but is this guy just grasping at straws because he thinks we will want him, or do we actually want him? id say thanks but no thanks, i mean cmon

Agreed

The interview was nice, but this is silly. Just to writer speculating anyway.

Just Silly

I heard that Shawn Kemp was available. He makes just as much sense as Bryon Russell.

by Brickowski on Feb 2, 2009 9:39 AM EST reply actions

Kemp is suppossedly in shape too

he might actually help against Cle.

I am hoping that by some miracle they have PJ coming back and they already know it

bfff...is it really so hard to find someone who is actually in the league now?

And another thing…is antoine walker so out of shape?? i mean…we are looking at reggie and bryon russell?? jeez

Are we talking about Bryon “Don´t call me Byron” Russell?

Is he still alive?

by Casperian on Feb 2, 2009 10:36 AM EST reply actions

Walker?

What the heck is Walker going to do on this team?

by JamesMartinCole on Feb 2, 2009 10:38 AM EST reply actions

Shouldn’t he be coaching high school basketball somewhere?

This sounds like shoddy journalism to me. “Bryon Russell wants to come back + conventional wisdom that the Celtics miss James Posey = Russell to the C’s!”

Hell, I’d rather have Bill Russell on the floor than Bryon. I’m pretty sure Bill would still be good for a couple blocked shots!

is antoine walker so out of shape?

I always love these bring back ’Toine minutias.

All and all, bringing back ‘Toine, at vet’s minimum is the best option the C’s have for a guy who spreads the floor and takes the outside shot.

Since both PJ and ’Zo are gone, what other options do we have?

by TitleMaster on Feb 2, 2009 10:40 AM EST reply actions

A 38 year old to play his ‘trade mark defense’?

Don’t think it’s going to happen.

by amenhotep04 on Feb 2, 2009 12:20 PM EST reply actions

what’s antoine’s career 3 point average? it can’t be more than 30%. Scal shoots a higher % and plays better D.It’s a shame really because he’s the same age ( or younger) than Ray allen and should still be playing in this league but I don’t think he was ever big on fitness. he just loved being the man and hoisting up shots

Nuts

No way are the Cs looking for a retired forward. They wouldn’t waste a breath on Russell; the concept is ridiculous. Cs need a backup big. POB got his shot yesterday, and promptly set a moving pick — AGAIN — for a turnover. He does that just about every time he plays, and I guess the big knucklehead is just too thick-headed to learn from his mistakes. Actually, I don’t think he’s that stupid, so I guess he’s just lazy and doesn’t care. Or self-destructive. Whatever, POB seems hopeless.

We can win it all without a backup big, but it would be a little more certain with one. And a little easier on KG.
