Better now because Rajon is so much better.

We’re easily better than last year. Health is the biggest concern.

I don't know about "easily better"
on paper we look more loaded – but it has to be the right mix
we have the potential to be better or worse depending on how it all fits together

I say we’re better, but so are the other top teams

you mean in terms of the frequency of games early on?
The next few months will be a lot easier in that respect, which may end up being a net positive vs. last year as the Celts could enter the playoffs a bit more rested.

the lakers are much better and the cavs are much much better than last year.
can we get them both in seven game series on the road?

I agree the cavs are much better, but honestly the lakers arent MUCH better, afterall the pretty much swept through “the greatest conference ever” in last years playoffs and made the finals, they were a very good team from the minute Gasol walked through the door

And I dont know that we can win both games 7s on the road, but who says we’ll even have too, what if we steal homecourt in game 1 or 2, or better yet win homecourt in the east?

I Don't Think It Matters
What matters is can we beat the Cavs and whoever comes out of the West (and let’s assume it’s the Lakers). The Cavs are better than last year because of their record. But are they really better. When I see that team winning with James scoring all those points it makes me suspect. The regular season and post-season are two different animals. The playing field is more even as to travel, schedule, practice time, etc. I’m not convinced that the Cav’s are really better than last year. I think, with our TEAM concept, especially on defense, that we can beat the Cavs in a 7 game series. I will make the same argument re the Lakers. Their record is better, but I’m not sure they really are better. I think we can also beat the Lakers.

I agree with all of your points
The cavs are a better regular season team now…They played at this level in the playoffs, and pretty much coasted through the regular season last year. this year they took a page out of last years celtics book and bring it every night
The Lakers do not scare me at all, Im confident the celtics would smother them, the lakers still arent a good defensive team, and losing to them 2 times in the regular season may even benefit us, the lakers have a false confidence because they beat us in 2 games that couldve gone either way, and our guys hold grudges for things like that, if we sweep them in the regular season I dont think we’d be as pumped up to crush them if we do meet in the finals

As of right now . . .
I am going to say “about the same,” but we have the potential to be even better than last year.
As long as Marbury just does his job and plays (factoring in Rondo, Perkins, Powe, Baby’s improvements) we undoubtedly have the potential to be better than last year.

Maybe he hasn’t shown it this season, as he’s been slumping. With Powe I’m kind of just referring to improevement from an experience standpoint, i.e. at least he gained some playoff experience last year, and with that obviously comes confidence that he can hopefully carry into the playoffs this year. I probably should have included Scalabrine in there instead of Powe, as we’ve seen tangible improvements in play from him, unlike Powe.

Yeah
I think one explanation for the results is that many are still caught up in not signing Posey. Another is that we are over influenced by that bad streak we had. Another is that we see all the flaws, the turnovers, the missed free throws. But we have lost only 12 games this year with a front-loaded schedule, some very suspicious officiating, etc. There are probably 4 or 5 games we lost, and deserved to lose, but could have won if not for terrible officiating. I think we are alot better than last year. I know others that post on this blog watch other teams play alot. I only watch Celtic games and I make the comments I do based on that. You tend to overemphasize the flaws when you do this. But, you also get to realize what a great player Ray Allen is because you see him every nite. You can look at a box score and see that Pierce only scored 10 points and think he had a bad nite, but when you see him play every nite you understand why only ten points. People see the Cavs as being better because LeBron scores alot every nite, Same for the Lakers and Kobe. I see it as a weakness when one player on a team scores so much. History reminds us that when the Celtics win championships we do not have the highest scorer in the league. We win because it’s about the TEAM and on this team the really great players set their teammates up to be better and to become more confident. We just have more players ready to play than maybe any other team in the league. Would Rondo be as good as he is on another team? I don’t think so.

Can I make a decision after Marbury gets here and actually has to say things to the media? Or after a week of him actually playing in games? I feel like now I’m too nervous about what Marbury COULD be to this team to actually evaluate where the team IS.
