Back On Track At MSG
No need for 61 points or triple doubles or anything like that. Just another strong effort from the big three and the supporting cast.

But Clyde is just fine....
…hustlin and bustlin.
When Perk was asked what he thought of Howard winning the gold medal this summer, he responded: "What’s his impression of me after I won a ring?"
You mean almost triple doubles...
Great end from the Champs.
- excellent pic choice Jeff.

43 minutes for Pierce
wow….
We didnt play good and the same old weaknesses were there, but good win

You Probably Know This
The reason Pierce played all those minutes was because he has the flu and there was the fear that if he sat he couldn’t get it going again. Doc and Pierce made this decision together.

A good, gritty win
Come on— you can’t expect the Celtics to come out firing after the game last night. Just logistically speaking, the team didn’t get into NYC until the wee hours of the morning. They played an OT game against one of the best teams in the league… that is draining.
Pop sat Ginobili, Duncan, and Parker the game after an OT in a back-to-back. We looked flat and made mistakes tonight because that is what you do when you are tired: you play flat and make silly mistakes.
I thought it was a great win for them. It gets them back on track for Sunday, which should be a great matchup.
Is anyone else really pumped for the Cavs/Lakers game.
Um, dare I say, more excited than the Celts/Spurs game? Don’t get me wrong, if I could only watch one game I’d choose the Celts because it’s the Celts, but, the Spurs aren’t exactly “fun” to watch. Duncan off the glass? Parker drives off a pick/roll? Eh.

“Is anyone else really pumped for the Cavs/Lakers game.”
I am, in a schadenfreude kinda way. Somebody’s gotta lose.
Seriously.
What a lineup on Sunday. Luckily, the game is on ABC. I am cable-less, and live on ESPN360.com and games on Sunday.
Thank goodness football season is over. Ugh.

I feel ya, but hasn’t ESPN360 been a blessing?

YES
i actually hook my laptop up to my LG LCD and the quality is actually quite good (32"). i was surprised as to how good it looks. i get to watch wednesday and friday games on espn360, and sunday games on ABC. i am content about that.
i shouldn’t say this TOO LOUD, but i was able to watch the celts v. pistons the other week on espn360. not sure how it didn’t get blacked out??

if there was ever a trap game, this was it and the c’s handled it. the big 3 and doc won the game. good subbing with eddie and powe who both delivered after poor starts- confidence builders for them. perk’s shoulder must be aching because he seems to go up for rebounds with 1 arm.. running the ball thru kg in the 4th made the difference. so-so effort til the 4th, but they did what they had to do. again-very sloppy reffing- this is getting tiresome.part of what helped the c’s in the 4th, was that they started to get some calls. pp is another hall of famer up in the rafters.
"Started to get some calls" is right
3rd quarter, 14 fts to 7 for the Knicks.
12 more fts than the Knicks in a 10-point win…

Hmm, I love a good Rondo love fest as much as anyone else
But he can’t possibly have only played 20 minutes. Unless he was hurt. Or he secretly sucked and I failed to notice. I coulda sworn he was on the court longer than that.
Thats why I had the question mark, the boxscore here says 20 minutes

Blog name
Other SBnation blogs have punny, witty, and dare I say “cool” blog names. Jeff: how did the folks at CelticsBlog & SB Nation come up with “CelticsBlog”? Was it a default choice or an actual choice?

I don't know the whole history behind it
but I can tell you that SBN had nothing to do with it – the site had been around for a few years before joining the network in October.
Beyond that, all I know is that in the words of the incomparable George Carlin, too often “the simple solution eludes us.” I always liked that one, and it seems applicable here.

favorite part of this game...
was when the crowd started chanting “boston sucks” in the 4th quarter, immediately followed by us taking over to finally put the game out of reach.
Rondo played like crap—out of control. The reason his minutes were down is that Doc pulled him, and Rondo would have sat down the entire 4th quarter if Ray Allen hadn’t fouled out.
Worst game I’ve seen Rondo play in quite awhile.
The Game Plan
The game plan was to get into the 4th quarter with a chance to win. It was then to get a fresh KG in and spread the floor, meaning Paul, Ray and Eddie. It kind of worked. Regardless of any other factors, Rondo probably wouldn’t have played much after halfway in the last quarter. I don’t think we know all that is going on behind the scenes. I didn’t know Pierce was sick against the Lakers and we were told he was sick last nite. Mike Gorman also mentioned, that before the Laker game KG didn’t have any sweat showing after his pre-game workout, meaning he was dehydrated. He was okay last nite, but probably weak. We know nothing about which other players were sick. Or not.
"I don't come to play, I come to WIN"--Larry Bird
What part of the game?
Because the TEAM strategy for utilizing Rondo was for him to be uber-agressive with his own offense in order to attack the Dantoni gameplan set up to defend him…Rondo is not used to taking so many shots in succession, but he was trying to fulfill his role, not just going off the reservation for kicks…

Some thoughts
- After a high-octane start, the game stagnated in the 2nd quarter. The Celtics’ offense was discombobulated, which I think had a lot to do with Doc’s decision to once again play Tony over Gabe. I don’t know what (if anything) Gabe did to warrant his sudden re-benching (maybe he’s a victim of circumstance only), but I know that I want him back in the game. At the very least, he’s not going to wreck the flow of the offense like Tony is almost guaranteed to do.
- Pierce was Pierce tonight. Those two long distance heaves as the shot clock was expiring were huge.
- Typical outing for Ray, as well. When he fouled out, even though there may have been a few minutes left, the game was virtually over.
- I was very happy to see Perkins pick up his performance tonight, especially on offense. Yeah, it was nothing spectacular, but I think Perkins gives the team a boost when he can finish nicely around the hoop, and score a couple of points.
- Leon’s back as well. It was just a matter of time before he found his game again. Way to go Leon!!!
- Another stellar offensive effort from my man Eddie House. His confidence is through the roof right now shooting the basketball. He was held scoreless in the first half, but persisted after missing his first two shots to score a few key buckets. He put together a string of 5 points in a row beginning with that stolen outlet pass, forcing a Knick timeout. Speaking of strings, House has quite the string of good games going right now.
- Unfortunately, House did not have a prayer of sticking with Robinson. He was trying to stay with him, but there was nothing he could really do about the speed disparity.
- Was it just me, or was KG really, really bad on defense tonight (both against his man, and weak side)? I phrase that as a question because I want to be cautious about criticizing last year’s DPOY’s defense.
- Boston was a little too flat for my liking for most of the night. There were too many easy shots and open shots available to the Knicks. Although, I guess the flatness was to be expected in a game following an OT loss to the Lakers, and I’m glad they kicked into gear when they needed to.
KG did seem a step slow on defense, but Harrington is a tough matchup; the Knicks spread out/chucking style can also be tough on the big men. Even last year I thought KG had some trouble with guys out on the three point line.
I think the Cs did pretty well considering the late game plus OT, the disappointing nature, having the flu etc. KG, PP, weren’t necessarily at their best but they got it done.
KG
…looked like he was still recovering from the effects of the flu. He never misses games without good cause so he must have been pretty ill.

Recap Picture
Wow… that’s incredible. Wonder how that happened. Low exposure/weak flash maybe?
Push on KG
the one where he was hurt, holding his back, does anybody know what happened there? They came back from the timeout and had that useless interview with David Stern on CSN-NE, Ray Allen is shooting a technical free throw and then the Knicks have the ball…I don’t really understand that. Mike and Tommy didn’t really say anything about except when it happened and I could’ve swore I heard the MSG PA saying it was Knicks ball.
It was an odd situation
in that the initial call was (correctly) a KG travel. But Harrington nailed him from behind after the whistle (whether his momentum is a reasonable excuse is a debate for another time), but the refs couldn’t call a personal foul because the whistle had already blown for the travel. So instead they hit Harrington with the technical (thus the Ray FT), and then the Knicks took over side out.

happy to help. Credit Breen and Frazier though – I had the MSG feed on League Pass, and they spent a few minutes sorting it out for the viewers.

Pierce & Doc
"My days of putting up big numbers [are] over with," Pierce said. "I’m within the team concept; that’s the formula that we need to win. We don’t need one guy to go out and score 46 points; we rely on our teamwork, our extra passes, our defense."
“It could happen. Paul had a big game in the playoffs [a 41-point game against Cleveland],” Rivers said before the game. “But for the most part, we’re more of a ball-movement team, we try to share the ball, so it would be very rare, almost strange, to see a 50-point game out of one of our guys. Having said that, I would take it, absolutely.”
BAM. That is why we won in 2008, and that is why we REALLY are a contender for 2009.
