Gooden Buyout Possible
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the recently acquired forward from Chicago has had recent discussions with the Kings regarding a possible buyout of the remaining portion of his expiring contract ($7.1 million this season).
While it does not appear likely, Gooden's window of opportunity to join a potential playoff team closes at 9 p.m. Pacific time tonight. That is the deadline for players to join teams and still be eligible to be on the playoff roster.
If Gooden is bought out, Cleveland and San Antonio would be two likely possibilities.
Keep in mind, even if the Celtics didn't lock up Mikki Moore when he became available, they would have had to compete with Cleveland and San Antonio for Joe Smith and/or Drew Gooden, and Cleveland has a lot more available money to offer.

Blagh
I’d take the opportunity of entering a biding war for Smith or Gooden with the risk of having to settle for a player like Austin Croshere over the certainty of Mikki Moore…
Good thing you're not a GM
We have/had no chance at gooden or smith, nether are even bought out and we’re approaching the deadline

Well, then I'd sign Croshere
And how exactly do you know we have/had no chance?
No Roster Space

LOL
Yeah, that’s why I wouldn’t have signed Moore, to keep the roster spot open.
Is there really a need to complain? we turned Cassell and POB into Marbury and Moore…Stephon was clearly the best possible player any contender could add despite being a headcase…

Huh?
I’ve expressed the opinion that we shouldn’t sign Moore (running the risk of losing him) right after the news of his release. I’m just keeping my opinion and expressing it. What does this has to do with need to complain? What’s exactly your point?
We didn’t turn Cassell and POB into Marbury and Moore. POB was wasted time, money and effort, nothing more than that and had no relevance on the signing of Marbury or Moore.
Really, trading POB to open up aroster spot had nothing to do with signing moore? interesting

Oh, you're right
Because the only way you can sign Mikki Moore is if you have an open roster spot you created by firing POB! Really, it’s a very unknown rule in the CBA.
Had we not signed POB, no way we could have landed Moore. So yeah, as you said we turned POB into Moore.
Did we or did we not sign POB? it doesnt matter if in hypothetical land we never did
by TheAncientRivalry on Mar 1, 2009 10:27 AM EST up reply actions
Yeah, unfortunately we did
It doesn’t make true the statement that we turned POB into Moore.
and the reason I think we have/had no chance is the simple fact that we did sign moore…I think Danny obviously knows more about whats going on with buyouts then we do, even if Smith/Gooden do get bought out, both seem like guys that go to the contender who offeres more money
Austin Croshere? um, how about just sign you or me? I dont what your personal vendetta against Moore is, but hes better than croshere or POB

Look
Unless you point out something that sustains your thesis of me having “a personal vendetta” against Moore, I’m waiting for an apology before carrying on the conversation.
A civil person would either provide evidence of the accusation or apologize for a mistake, and you’re civilized, aren’t you?
You clearly dont like Moore, you stated you would rather have wait for buyouts that will likely never happen, or buyouts that happen and they go somewhere else …and sign Austin Croshere? that to me sounds like you dont want moore on the team, or he is not good enough for your tastes, no?

chill guys
cordobes is saying that the CHANCE to get Gooden or Smith is worth passing on Moore and the backup plan is Croshere
you disagree, no biggie

I stated explicitly that I like Moore
And more than once.
What I’ve said – and like me, many others: there was a poll and half of the people voted on not signing Moore and waiting for possible buyouts – is that I’d rather pass on Moore and wait to see if a better player would become available – and apparently, they are going to be.
I don’t see the downgrade from Moore to Croshere as very pronounced. Or little pronounced.
It’s okay if you disagree, but please avoid lying about others people positions from now on, especially if you’re not humble enough to apologize.
cut it out
personal attacks are not welcome here

I dont owe you an apology, therefore you’re not getting one.good day

a little perspective

"Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me." Michael Scott
Al right
Saying that I have a personal vendetta against Moore was still a lie. Nice to see you recognizing that.
Small point
Being wrong does not = lying. Just sayin’…
Peace.
sorry for the misunderstanding then
Thanks for recognizing you were wrong and misrepresent my thoughts.
So Right
Some people just want to be negative on pickups so if it doesn’t workout they can just say “I told you so”, but if it does workout nobody remembers their comments, I just like to support the team on whatever move they make. “In Danny we trust”
Hmmm
So, if Ainge had opted to pass on Moore and wait for the chance (that we still don’t know it’s going to happen) of signing a better player, would you agree that was the best choice?
I had an opinion before we picked Moore and I have the same opinion now. As simple as that.
I don’t stop supporting the team because I don’t agree with some personnel moves, otherwise I’d have stopped supporting the C’s a long time ago. There’s a difference people should try to understand.
With just 12 hours left...
…doesn’t seem likely. Better the bird in the hand, in this case. And, even with hands of stone, it’s not clear that Mikki is not the best choice anyway… just because his EFFORT level is as high as it gets, and he is 7’ tall with reasonable physical skills… and that is the exact winning combination we need on the defensive end, when Perk is out. If we get great D out of Mikki, and add to that some extra O with his mid-range J… we’re good to go.
I still have hope
…that Ainge makes some magic and releases one of the kids and signs one of these guys. Or, better yet, that there no buyouts are agreed and Ferry fails to make an addition. That would be terrible for Cleveland, I’d downgrade their contender rating to a tier bellow the C’s and the Lakers. They’d be the Eastern Conference Spurs.
