Crunching Clutch Stats
Celtics Hub looks at some stats for the Celtics in "clutch" situations. See details here.
Here's a sample analysis.
You can tell immediately that the Celtics offense is just about as efficient in the “clutch” as it is otherwise–pretty damn efficient. They don’t shoot the ball as well from the floor, but they make up for it by getting to the line more often (and hitting the FTs) and taking better care of the ball. This is nothing earth-shattering, but it’s something of a validation of Doc’s late-game coaching and proof that the C’s have evolved from the “throw the ball to Pierce and stand around” crunch time strategy.

Interesting and Mystifying
Everything that can be counted does not necessarily count; everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted.
I am shocked we are only 35% from 3 Point in clutch situations – How is “clutch” defined? Did I miss that definition. And we somehow make up a shortcoming by getting to the foul line more? I would bet the farm we couldn’t make up anything on this team getting to the foul line more… as we never seem to get to the foul line as much as the other team? Less not More
I know who is clutch…..Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. and PP was as clutch as they come in last year playoff’’s – which is what I am hoping for this year. Of course one stat trumps all others……how many players are hurt who are in fact “clutch” while other choke.
Peace
Is it Soup Yet?
not sure if anyone caught it
but they had a segment on sportscenter (and the ESPN.com fan poll) last night about who you would want taking the final shot, Kobe, LeBron, or Wade. Of course as a bias C’s fan I said, “Hey! What about paul pierce!”.
well our man tim legler answered the question for sportscenter, and made a POINT of bringing paul pierce into the argument, stating that the original 3 + Paul were the Mt. Rushmore of late game finishers. way to go timmy legs! Only guy to pick us in the finals last year and now this!
