Master Leon POwe

Kingsofleon_medium

Wow Leon. Just wow.  30 points, 11 rebounds, 5 blocks, 3 assists.  Wow.

  • Rumors of Stephon's death appear to be greatly exaggerated.
  • Rondo = Win.  Simple as that.
  • Nice bounce back game for Mikki Moore too.
  • Great to see more from Bill Walker.  Sweet dunk.
  • Great to see less (minutes) for Pierce and Allen (finally)

membership has its priveleges…

excellent effort by leon and the c’s, once kg gets back…if this squad is full on healthy, they can hang with any team in the league in anyone’s house.

Powening.

Give Leon minutes, get points and boards. That simple.

by Brendan on Mar 13, 2009 10:07 PM EDT reply actions

Good to get a W

And Leon. Man. Hope he keeps it up.

But still….We were playing the Griz. Not going to get too carried away by this one.

Leon's best game this year, and not just because he scored thirty

he kept his intensity up the whole time he was out there, no lags, no poor stretches, few turnovers. His timing tonight was solid every minute he was on the floor, and he ran full tilt up and down every play. He was so winded at the foul line in the first half he took 2:45 to shoot two (made both). Just awesome to watch. Talk about a role model for younger players…

Marbury was solid tonite

I especially liked his driving and passing – but the made jumpers and floaters were great to see…

He’s getting his legs.

of course it was all against the grizz, but 2 years ago, we were the grizz. yo, powe! go loco. all sorts of kudos, but let’s hear it for billy walker, who like powe, is one tough hombre.

marbury too

he looked great tonight in limited minutes.

by Brendan on Mar 13, 2009 10:57 PM EDT reply actions

Good to play without too many distractions

As Tommy and Mike pointed out, it was nice to have to worry about the refs. Sad that that needs saying.

it was nice not to have to worry about the refs it should read.

Well, Marbury actually looked like a back up NBA pg. I was shocked.

As for the rest of the game, it was Memphis after all.

by Brickowski on Mar 13, 2009 11:08 PM EDT reply actions

Imagine how good he could have been...

if he:

1. hadn’t been “figured out” by the league
2. had a BBIQ
3. could put the ball on the floor
4. wasn’t “already as good as he’ll be.”

Just imagine that…

Leon the master of gentleman !!!!

he is just such a calm and nice guy always quiet never complaining about minutes and also supporting the rookies like bill walker . . my only fear is that he leaves boston cause other teams culd offer him alot of money i hope we keep him !!!!

Moore

M Moore had a nice game for himself. Gabe has worked his way out of the NBA. Too bad I liked the kid. Good game by all the role players.

by liamail on Mar 14, 2009 12:05 AM EDT reply actions

Once we signed Marbury....

it was pretty clear Gabe wouldn’t be seeing anymore minutes this year.

by Fafnir on Mar 14, 2009 12:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Gabe hasn’t worked his way out of the league. The kid’s barely seen the light of day. Different rules for different players. He’s got a decent shot, athletic, can play defense, handles the ball well, and has a good attitude. If the Cs let him go, he’ll pick up with another team.

Leon POW

Probably too corny to turn into a chant, but it started with Phil jackson mis-pronouncing his name and now I heard it all the time from the international broadcasts of Celtics highlights. Nobody can say his name right, so why not just make it permanent?

by JunkyardDawg on Mar 14, 2009 1:12 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah!

Propagation of ignorance isn’t cool. I was just listening to WEEI and one of their callers was even mis-pronouncing Leon’s name!

Mikki Moore ...

It seems like Mikki either makes 3 of 3 baskets or not score at all! Ha Ha!

POOOOooooooOOOooooooOOOWE!

I wanna hear CWebb say that a few times this season.

Great having Rondo back and you can see the new bench players figuring it out. Solid minutes from Walker, Marbury & Moore.

Solid game against a team stocked with talent, but doesn’t know how to close out games. Mayo, Gay & Gasol are for real. They just lack consistent d.

by LuckyNumber07 on Mar 14, 2009 6:50 AM EDT reply actions

If only we could have gotten Joe Smith....

we could have kept Leon on the bench. For you Joe Smith fans, think about them apples. And, to be honest, the Leon that was laboring in January was headed for some bench time (and getting it vs BBD). The best moves as they say ARE sometimes the ones you don’t make. Powe grabbed many rebounds that were hard fought. Most of Mikki’s dropped into his hands. I don’t see Mikki playing when the playoffs come around. Leon’s spread legged 6’8" toughness is better low post defense than Mikki’s 7’ beanpole.

As for Marbury, I think it is a dead on tie between the Marbury doubters and the Marbury hopefuls. He’s been really bad and last night he helped. As a Marbury-doubter I have to admit he is showing Celtic effort on defense.

by Wildblu1 on Mar 14, 2009 7:02 AM EDT reply actions

tommy made a good point about marbury

Last night Tommy noted how marbury has been seen frequently smiling around the other guys and his defensive effort has been consistent and worthy of praise. An indication that the hopefuls outweigh the doubters…

by jyrecelts on Mar 14, 2009 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Very encouraging effort from Steph. He looks motivated out there. Here’s hoping he keeps it up.

Powe was great!

I’m so happy for him!

It was also good to see Marbury and Mikki play well.

by Bankshot on Mar 14, 2009 7:05 AM EDT reply actions

Powe was great. Doc actually trusted his bench. I was happy to finally see that.

by amenhotep04 on Mar 14, 2009 7:41 AM EDT reply actions

It's Not A Matter Of Trust

If the bench plays well they keep playing, if not, they don’t. If Doc didn’t trust the bench he would never sub. It’s always been that way. Remember, we are no longer a developmental team. Players are put in to execute, not to learn. The object now is to win.

by TrueGreen on Mar 14, 2009 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Sure it is.

I have no problem with what you’re saying. But it’s not unusual for players to be a little slugglish right off the bench. Often, it takes players a few minutes to get in the flow. Doc has had a short fuse this year with the younger players. So the players make a mistake right off the bench and they are back on the bench. Trust does play a part. Doc doesn’t do that usually with veterans, and yes, the vets have earned the time, but it’s a trust issue that they will play well. Development is a diverse term. The team last year was constantly in a state of development including the playoffs. The players were still learning to play with each other. This year the bench often times struggled to find an identity, hence development.

When looking at Marbury and Moore, they are developing playing with the rest of the team (defense) as well as offense. Walker is developing. He’s had some terrible games, and has had some good games. Teams are constantly trying to develop and improve. But I know that is not what you were saying.

If the starters get outscored 10-0, Doc calls a timeout and trusts that these guys will turn it around. If the same thing happens to the bench, he puts the starters back in. Doc rarely shakes up the rotation if the starters are playing poorly.

Big public thank you

To Greg683x and others who kept us informed on the game thread last night after NBA League Pass went a bit haywire.

We might not have been able to see what happened, but we were able to follow along in real time with the rest of our fellow C’s fans. It sure beat hitting “refresh” on the box score!

by Thruthelookingglass on Mar 14, 2009 8:33 AM EDT reply actions

Doc was running Leon into the ground, he was so winded. Somehow he still had enough lifts to block and dunk in the 4th quarter. He was my fantasy sleeper pick for the week, working out so far.

If you compare Leon’s # to Millsap’s per 48 minutes, you will see they are very similar. I wonder who will get more money at the end of the year, Leon or Big Baby. I personally think Ainge is a Leon guy and Doc is a Big Baby guy. $20m/4? At the same time, some joker is going to pay Millsap $8M o $9M

Also I am going to have to put Mikki Moore’s hands in the Perk category, he drops so many passes it’s unbelieveable.

by tmak26b on Mar 14, 2009 10:08 AM EDT reply actions

Mikki

To catch a pass you need to be ready for it. Other than playing with Jason Kidd, I’m not sure Mikki is familiar with the term: “pass”. He’ll get better the more comfortable he gets with playing here.

i agree

yet his career rep is ‘hands of stone’

by jyrecelts on Mar 14, 2009 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions

That type of money doesn't exist...

…in next year’s market for role players…there are going to be alot of disapointed players who think they’re getting paid, but actually make only a portion of what they want….hello Ben Gordon…I’d be suprised if the market supports more than 3 mill per year for a player like Powe when guys like AI, Marion, Sheed, Gordon, Lee, and Robinson may very well be looking at 5-7 million per year…

Owners are going to be quite frugal this coming off-season and that will benefit Boston substantially…

by BillfromBoston on Mar 14, 2009 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions

It all depends on how Leon and Big Baby finishes for the year. If they finish at where they are, I say $4-6M per year on Leon, $3-4M on Big Baby. The free agent market isn’t exactly sexy this year, so I think they should be able to get a decent contract. Lee might be the only person that will clear $10M, but I think he is a byproduct of D’Antoni’s offense too. Most of the names you mentioned are starters, they will get their share. Leon and Big Baby are decent enough players to be a 6th or 7th man, which should give them a decent shot at a contract. Also you have to look into the draft this year, not exactly hot.
