Perkins Has Kicked The Habit
"Perkins is averaging 8.2 ppg. Almost a point and a half more than last year, and almost twice his average two years ago. The reason he's scoring more, including double digits in every game so far in March, is actually a result of what he's NOT doing. He's not bringing the ball down every time he catches it. "

Tommy used to point it out every time he did it and was right on the money.

Good demonstration on the bad use of stats
For every 40 minutes he’s on the floor, pace adjusted, Perkins is scoring 11.4 points with a 59.2 FG. Last season, he scored 11.5 points with a 61.3.
He’s scoring more because he’s playing more minutes per game and taking more shots, that’s the reason for his increment on points per game (the decline on the efficiency is explained mostly by the fact that he’s taking much more jump-shots).
I’m not interested on discussing the point about him bringing down the ball – he’s still doing it, although arguably much less that at the same point of last season – just showing that the stats were misinterpreted.
Perkins priority should be to limit his turnovers. He’s one of the most turnover prone players in the entire league – 3rd in turnovers per possession among players who play more than 20 mpg – and he is getting worse every season since 2 years ago.

Its also mis-leading
To compare pre-big three stats, to post big three stats.
