My Opinion On CsBlog

CelticsBlog was best before it got that big redone design and switched to Joomla. When it was that simple wordpress blog it always seemed a lot better to me. The Chat and forum also seemed more active, and actually found the blog more attractive. Now, there really isn’t even that much writing on the blog, just quotes from other articles and sites. To me, the quality really went down when switched to the fancy joomla site.

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

everyone entitled to their opinion

there are other, more intimate blogs out there – we chose to embrace a larger community and I’m very happy with that direction

the only nit I’ll pick is that there is a lot more writing on the site now – there just happens to be more quotes and links as well – you do have to scroll down to find content sometimes – and we try to balance the flow of information with the feel of the site – nobody’s perfect, but we’re doing the best we can

This is, without question, the best Celtics Internet forum, a forum populated with intelligent, oftentimes unbiased discussion of the best franchise in the NBA.

The same cannot be said for other Celtics forums. I came here tired of the “agree with us or else” attitude of the moderators on the Celtics RealGM forum. Happily, there’s none of that here. Just unvarnished Celtics discussion, with some good writers to boot.

This is an excellent, intelligent site.

Come on...

I can’t speak for the rest of the staff, but I know that I work tirelessly to exude an “agree with me or else” attitude. I guess I’ll have to try harder. ;-)

Also...

From my perspective, CB is the best sports blog on the net. I’m a fan of the Bruins, Red Sox, Chicago Bears, and Manchester United, and I’ve got to say, none of those teams have fan-dedicated sites that come close to matching this one.

I lurked through 2 or 3 or 4 hosting changes and was a member for the switch to SBNation. Jeff and the moderators (and anyone else) have given us a forum that has attracted more and more folks over the years.

And having watched it evolve, I’m amazed at how Jeff has shepherded things along. He’s managed to dedicate a lot to CelticsBlog and still have a life, which he and his family definitely deserve. Yes CelticsBlog is much bigger and to some of us it is taking time to get used to. However, I have absolutely no doubt that Jeff found the best solution for CelticsBlog and the community that has formed around it. I even like that fans of other teams come here, that’s awesome!

I definitely come visit much, much more these days, since there is so much more content and good commentary. And I also like the policies — this continues to be a well-policed forum and that means a lot to me. There is a whole lot to like.

Thanks Jeff! Thanks moderators! Thanks writers!

I agree the chat was more active in the past...

How do we get the chatters back again. I realize there are a few other Celtics chats competing with us on game nights now….We do have our loyal chat core, though.

Maybe by advertising….Here Goes:

Come join us on the blog Chat Room on Game Nights!!!

When you

don’t allow political discussion on the site you definitely limit where discussions can go. I’m not suggesting that the site become a political discussion place but when you disallow the topic of politics which often intersects with sports, basketball, the Cs, you run the risk of narrowing thinking and debate. I’ve said this all before but thought I’d mention it again in this context.

Honestly, the chat in the old Boston.com days was excellent. Maybe I’m just getting old.

i agree

i agree…. i use to come daily, the past two years ive giving up because the quality of basketball knowledge has diminished and became a hating doc fest, even after he wins, he still gets bashed… great.

by HoustonRondos on Mar 18, 2009 2:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hmm... that's just not true.

There are very few anti-Doc articles or threads on here these days. Maybe three years ago, but not any more.

I agree with Roy — I think the site, and it’s posters, have been extraordinarily supportive of Doc Rivers this season. It’s night and day versus what we’ve seen in the past, both during the losing years and the concerns voiced last season.

I think Popovich gets more heat from Spurs fans than Doc gets here (nowadays).

What ’s been seen here is some learned commentary about every aspect of the franchise. Some have a lower tolerance for the notion that all is not perfect in Celtics-land, which is fine.

Others choose to discuss what they see, which is what makes spending time on this blog worthwhile.

I feel like sometimes (and this came up in the mikki moore discussion)

That the fans can go way over the top sometimes. And the more stay calm fans get shot down when they try to tell them to be more reasonable. The sides job is to put every decision under a microscope, but threads like the mikki moore thread got done and over done so many times, it became all the side would talk about for like two weeks. I can say personally i avoided the blog for that period of time.

game threads

I love this blog and have been a member since its inception. I do have one wish for change though:

the game threads in the message boards are an extremely cumbersome way to follow the game live with fellow fans. why don’t more people use the actual comments section on the main page to post game thoughts? it updates itself in real time, and there aren’t pages upon pages of avatars, signatures, etc. it’s a much, much better way for fans to rant, rave quote each other, and extole the virtues of a garbage time Billy Walker windmill.

the other SBNation blogs use this method of posting during games. if i had a say, i’d start promoting this method for the playoffs this year. for an example of how well it works/flows, check out this link from the Eagles’ Bleeding Green Nation:

Chat

We do have a chat room open during the live games (as well as other important times) with a group of fun, diverse, and knowledgeable, fans. Come join us there.

by thirstyboots18 on Mar 22, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

meh

the chat is ok. and i know some people love it. but it scrolls very quickly and makes that annoying popping sound (which can be turned off I’m sure), and it’s nearly impossible to reply directly to a specific person. with the live comment threads, all of that is avoided.

by MetroGlobe on Mar 22, 2009 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fair enough.

I, for one, missed the Globe chat when it closed….

It's all about options...

We have chat, the front page, and the forums. All three have different things to offer. I personally don’t think any one should be promoted over the two others; it’s all a matter of personal preference.

Hands down best sports blog site

I was relatively new to the sports blogging world only a year ago but got involved rather quickly checking out a ton of sites but there are none that compare to CB. The writers are great the members are great and there is always great discussions going on in the comments and forums. I love the dedicated fans who are on this site and its nice to see that there are people out there who show the same passion for the team as I do. I love this site dont change a thing keep up the good work.
