Regular Season Grade

The season is winding down and it is time for a little bit of reflection.  I'll leave this open for discussion and a poll.  Considering the expectations headed into the season, how do you think the team did overall?  How about with Danny's transactions?  Doc's coaching?  Development of younger players?  Management of the veteran's minutes?  Feel free to discuss these and other evaluations below.

Separate

Personally,i feel the team has done very good considering the bumps here and there this season. On the otherhand,i see management,Doc(coaching staff),and players all separate issues as far as how i view their performances for this season.I would like to see a poll for Danny separate from Doc/coaches/players,and vice versa.Great idea for the poll.

my first impulse was to give the team a B+, but then i thought about it, and i think B or lower makes the assumption that the first half the celtics were playing around “A” and then after these injuries theyv gone down a letter, but thats not the case, first half they were playing A+++ while on pace to have one of the best NBA records ever. Then came an onslaught of injuries we’re STILL in it for 60 wins. So i have to say, this season has been an “A” for me.

Good point, House Call. Management’s performance drags down the overall grade of the franchise. I’d give players a higher grade, to be certain.

Whatever happened

to an A-. As a teacher I can tell you that a B+ is the most contested grade of them all.

12 and 19 game win streaks when healthy..still gonna win 60 games…A+ easily…

by Motown on Mar 28, 2009 5:29 PM EDT reply actions

Definitely a A-

because no one can deny the domination that occurred before that horrible Christmas day match…and with a healthy KG (fingers crossed!) and maybe even a 75% Powe back in the line up, then your looking at A+, easy.

Room for improvement, always.

Awfully difficult to have been perfect whenever dealing with teams, coaching and management collectively for one grade. However, if perfect would equal an A grade, the Champs orginazation and players recieve a strong B+, as there is always room for improvement.

Can’t believe some games were lost, seems silly to expect, as well as some questionable coaching decisions in retrospect removed from that moment.

I do feel as though we’re doing great though; Of course, I love the drama of watching the game i love played out with some suspense owning to the human condition, and not to underappreciate the competition. Around the league I see NO “A” grades either!

Indefatigable on Defence defines these Celtics~

B+

great thing about the C’s is they are taking pressure off of themselvse by relinquishing home court..i love it.

How in the world is it not an “A”? Only 10% of folks voted for an “A”. I find that unbelievable. The Celtics have done a tremendous job defending their Championship.

by Who on Mar 28, 2009 10:49 PM EDT reply actions

Only the Faker fans have such consistently high expectations for their team, so I fully expect many C’s fans to figure that only another championship merits an “A.”

Despite the inopportune injuries, our defending champs are still among the tops in the League in winning percentage and is obviously a championship contender. Compared to 1987-2007, this is definitely an A all-around. Go C’s!

Okay, I’ll fess up. I gave a grade of B-. Not because of the play of the players, nor of player acquisition. I’ve been underwhelmed by Doc this year (with the exception of a game or two). I’ve felt he could have done a much better job with what he’s had, even with the injuries. He’s outstanding at getting the players motivated to play, but the management of the game this year I’ve been less than impressed with.

Obviously however, if one were to go simply by the record, we’d have to be an A+.

by amenhotep04 on Mar 29, 2009 8:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Huh?

If the record deserves and A+, how in the world could Doc have improved upon that by doing anything differently? It defies reason…

by KJ33 on Mar 29, 2009 10:38 AM EDT up reply actions

b-

Doc has done a good job, the team has played great when healthy, I love the improvement in Rondo, Perk, and Ray.
However, Danny gets a pretty low grade for his work this year. The draft picks won’t be playing in the playoffs which can be excused due to the draft position. But I never liked signing POB over Birdman, he let Posey go(which I understood), didn’t aquire Nocioni when he had the opportunity. I still think Marbury can help, but Mikki Moore is one of the biggest stiffs in the league and he’ll be of no use in the playoffs. Plus he is the first Celtic since Blount and Walker before him, that really angers me and has me shaking my head when I watch. I have liked everyone from Pruitt to TA to Telfair to Green and Greene, but I do not like Moore at all as a player.

by moiso on Mar 29, 2009 8:54 AM EDT reply actions

Exactly. If this was purely coach and player performance, I’d vote A-.

Ainge and Wyc drag the grade down – significantly.

by CoachBo on Mar 29, 2009 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Coach Bo wouldn’t have signed POB. And Coach Bo would have brought in a competent wing to back up Pierce – points I’ve been making since August.

Shades of Rickey Henderson...

GRADE C

I guess I’m in the 1% because I think they’ve lost every big game this year. I know they’ve had a target on their back but losing to the Clippers and Pacers, etc. is just unforgiveable.

Then, every big game this year starting on Christmas they have lost. The Magic, the lakers, the Spurs, the Cavs are all the better teams and all think they can beat the C’s. Last year, the C’s tried to prove themselves to themselves and to the rest of the league. This year, especially the last 2 months they have just been skating.

We have lost that intimidation factor and the homecourt advantage. Maybe the C’s are good enough to turn it off and turn it on but as far as a grade for the year? C. Take away the 2 winning streaks and they’ve played 500 ball. Unacceptable. I’d have given them a D or an F if it hadn’t have been for Nov-Jan for the most part. Since KG’s been out they have sucked. I can hardly stand to watch them without KG.

by timpiker on Mar 29, 2009 12:01 PM EDT reply actions

so what grade would you give them for 2003-04 or 2006-07?

Or most seasons out of the 15 years prior to last season?

B-

Yeah, they are getting by right now.

But they set their expectations high. 3rd seed in the East is not meeting expectations.

Still passing. Just below what they are capable of.
