Rondo Moving On Up
As Mike Gorman noted in tonight's broadcast, Rondo's assist totals for this year now ranks in the top 5 of all time Celtics for a single season. According to Basketball Reference.
1. Bob Cousy 715 (1959-60)
2. Sherman Douglas 683 (1993-94)
3. Tiny Archibald 671 (1979-80)
4. Bob Cousy 642 (1955-56)
5. Rajon Rondo 618 (2008-2009)
5. Tiny Archibald 618 (1980-81)
Rondo has 7 games to move up the list. If he gets his season average of 8.4 per game, that will leave him with about 676, good for 3rd all time.

Individual glory is fun and all
. . . but I personally hope he sits at least a couple of those games and gets those ankles healed for the playoffs. 4th behind Tiny sounds fine for his third year. He has plenty of time to move up that list.
He’s definitely going to get up in Cousy territory withing the next 2 years. Not only has he gotten better at passing from this year to last year, but he has gotten progressively better each month of this season:
* October — 6.0 assists per game
* November — 7.1 assists per game
* December — 8.3 assists per game
* January — 9.3 assists per game
* February — 10.1 assists per game
I don’t have his numbers for March, but they have to be somewhere close to 10 apg, maybe higher. So next year he could certainly break the record.
And the big 4 was born.
But really, that’s an impressive list up there. Quite the improvement.

Sherm's assists
Just imagine how many he would’ve had if he’d kept his shoes on.

Pace Adjust it and Rondo Blows Cooz Away
In that 1959-60 season the Cs averaged 125 ppg. This year they average 100ppg. If Rondo played at the pace they did back then he’d average 10-11 apg and pass Cooz’s record fairly easily (although it was only a 75 game season on Cooz’s year). Even so Rondo’s apg would eclipse Cooz’s 9.5 apg for that season. Very impressive year for Rajon.
Sherman Douglas may be the most impressive performance because he played on such a lousy team where his top finishers were Dee Brown and Dino Radja! And that team played at a pace much more akin to the current team. Cooz and Tiny had a little bit of talent around them.
