Looking Forward - 1st Round

Hollinger has his playoff odds page that shows that we have a 100% chance of making the playoffs.  But you knew that.  What is interesting to me is the teams that might finish 7 and 8 (or even 6?) because we will be facing one of those teams in the first round.  So I thought I'd get your thoughts on those teams and who concerns you most or least.

Is it Miami with Wade (able to win a series by himself)?  Or the retooled Bulls?  Perhaps the playoff veteran Pistons (that just beat us)?  Or perhaps last year's tough first round opponent the Hawks?  Discuss.

I want the best team so my answer’s a bizarro answer, Hawks, I don’t fear any of them at all.

I'm completely contradicting my own previous post, but ... I agree. I think a Hawks series would

not only be incredibly fun to watch — it would also help to sharpen the Celtics and get them mean.

by Cousin It on Mar 4, 2009 12:16 AM EST up reply actions

we can beat any and all of them

but the Hawks stick in my head from last year and they have wing athleticism that we lack – especially if Tony isn’t back at 100%

Healthy Bucks or healthy Pacers

From those, Atlanta and Detroit, by that order. But the chances of meeting the Hawks in the 1st round are pretty negligible, no? They are already 8 games over .500…

Hawks

After last year, how can the answer not be the Hawks? Luckily, the chances are slim that we’ll run into them in the 1st round. With the record they have it would seemingly take a major collapse for them to fall so low that they had to play us. I’m just hoping the Bucks hang on by some miracle and we get to play them in the 1st round, but that’s also highly unlikely.

Sixers

there’s almost zero fear of the Sixers on here

remember when everyone thought they’d be at least a 3 or 4 seed?

Given our shockingly low level of current play, they all scare me.

by CoachBo on Mar 4, 2009 7:41 AM EST up reply actions

The Pistons are by far the most talented team in that group. Nobody else comes close to them.

by Who on Mar 3, 2009 4:51 PM EST reply actions

True but,

they have not shown any indication they will sustain a winning effort for a seven game series. I don’t think that will magically change during the playoffs.

by MurphyHOF on Mar 3, 2009 11:16 PM EST up reply actions

The Pistons are the toughest of the listed teams only when Iverson is hurt. If Iverson is playing, I’m much more afraid of the Hawks, because Joe Johnson can beat you by himself and because you know the games in Atlanta will be an officiating nightmare.

by Brickowski on Mar 3, 2009 4:55 PM EST reply actions

Hawks shouldn't be on this list, should they?

I mean, their lowest possible seed is probably 5, right?

by PJ Martinez on Mar 3, 2009 5:02 PM EST reply actions

lot of time left

they are only 2.5 games ahead of the Heat and 6 games ahead of Milwaukee

strange things happen

i’m not scared of any of these teams.

a lot of ???

if we stay 2nd, then pistons or sixers. I think hawks – Miami are most likely for 4 and 5. it will be a nice one.

To be honest, either pistons or sixers are going to be tough and it will most likely be a 5 or 6 games.

Pistons

They scare me.

They shouldnt…
We’ve won in detroit 5 times in the last 2 seasons..that says all we need to know

by TheAncientRivalry on Mar 3, 2009 7:36 PM EST up reply actions

That is quite possibly true,

but still, they scare me. I don’t know what it is but I’ve secretly (don’t tell anyone) always liked the Pistons.

Perhaps it’s the attitude they used to be known for, perhaps it’s Rip’s mask, perhaps it’s because my first basketball had a Detroit Pistons emblem on it. I don’t know. All I know is that if they beat us up in the first round god forbid I’m going to quite possibly be routing for them to win it all. (Bah, phat chance!)

Detriot Basketball

You know who scares me? Zaza Pachulia! No, not really… I do like the idea of Cleveland having to play Detroit in the second round, though. Cleveland (Loretta) probably wins the series, but I see Detroit giving them more problems than the Magic give us.

Show Up

At this point in the season, all those teams have become very scary to play, but if we show up every game and play to our potential we can beat any of them in a series…its just getting this team to show up night after night.

by house_call on Mar 3, 2009 5:32 PM EST reply actions

we will be fine

if healthy….that’s a big if

Don't Think It Matters Who We Play

If we play well (assuming there are no injured players) I think we can beat any team, anywhere, in any round. When we lose we usually beat ourselves by turning the ball over or missing too many free throws. I think, with the injuries to KG, Scals and TA (who is only occasionally a factor) and the addition of 2 new players it’s time to get ready for the playoffs now. Up till I heard the news about Scals I thought we still might have a chance for homecourt advantage. I think we need to go out and try to win every game, but without Scals and KG I don’t see us as having a chance for best record vs the Cavs and Lakers. It’s probably time to cut down the minutes of Paul and Ray and maybe Perk and Rondo and give lots of minutes to Marbury and Moore. Trick will be to put them in combos they might be in during the playoffs. The schedule now becomes in our favor and days off can be used for practice or rest. It’ll be interesting to see.

Cleveland.

i say we manipulate our record and come in as the 8th seed, take out Cleveland, then cruise to the Finals!!! :D

by scurvmeister on Mar 4, 2009 2:58 AM EST reply actions

Give us Atlanta

I want Atlanta first so we can beat them right away, I hate how cocky they are.

by Jmicro on Mar 4, 2009 3:22 AM EST reply actions

I'm more worried

About getting Moore and Marbury adjusted to our system, everything else can wait. Without Moore and especially Marbury being in their A games idk if we can beat Cleveland or LA this year.

by Scalablob990 on Mar 4, 2009 3:50 AM EST reply actions

This question is so so easy

Detroit is the team i would least like to face for 1 simple reason I dont feal like listening to MASON!!!!!!!!!
