KG Likely Out Longer

I knew it.  The Globe reports:

Kevin Garnett is gradually recovering from a right knee strain and likely will remain out for at least one more week, Celtic coach Doc Rivers said after a Friday morning shootaround.

"He ran (Thursday), he told me, on the treadmill, and he said he felt great," Rivers said of Garnett. "Other than that, that's the first day he's been able to run. We're just going to take our time. I would say at least a week, and most likely longer."

Here's a tip, whenever you hear someone is going to be out 2-3 weeks, assume it will be 4.  When you hear someone is out 2 months, assume 3.  When you hear they are hoping to see Tony Allen back by the playoffs, ...don't count on it.

Take your time and get well, KG

Being at full health for the playoff run is more important than HCA.

Not surprised either

Re: Tony Allen, I really hope he’ll come back for the playoffs. If not, the team must add another wing or else the probability of repeating is severely diminished.

I’ll feel a lot better if Scal comes back. Without Scal and Tony for the playoffs, I would certainly agree with you. Seeing Marbury trying to guard the likes of Walter Herman the other night in Detroit was awful.

Re: Tony Allen

I really hope he does not come back for the playoffs. The team looks awful when he plays, I would rather have scal or bill walker. At least with walker’s mistakes you can say he’s a rookie and he will learn next time, not so with TA

That's odd

At least with walker’s mistakes you can say he’s a rookie and he will learn next time, not so with TA?

That wouldn’t be of much comfort to me: “Hey, we lost because the kid was a bum, but he’s still learning the job, so it’s all good..”. Nah, I wouldn’t be able to rationalize that, giving a rookie playoffs experience isn’t even a goal and wouldn’t sugar coat an elimination.

I'm in a poetic mood today thanks to our Bard-off
So we just hold on fast
Acknowledge the past
As lessons exquisitely crafted
Painstakingly drafted
To carve us as instruments
That play the music of life
For we don’t realize
Our faith in the prize
Unless it’s been somehow elusive

Just holding on guys!

Which would you rather have?

KG out till mid-late March Celtics miss 1st seed

or

KG has lingering knee problems in the playoff

???

by Greg on Mar 6, 2009 3:09 PM EST reply actions

Neither, and even if he stays out 2 extra weeks, no lingering knee problems isnt promised.

this news blows, and this team is losing chemistry fast without KG… hopefully they can find some fast..and will need to regain it all over again once KG comes back

Well resting him now gives a much better chance he should be much more healthy come playoff time. Would rather have that instead of him trying to play through it now.

TA

I don’t get the Tony hate. Especially in the early part of the season, I saw a high level of play for him and he was important as an offensive spark on the bench. When he came back for a short while recently before being injured again, I thought his defensive play was outstanding. I have confidence that when given the opportunity to compete in the playoffs, his play will show greater consistency.

KG, Scal, and TA all needs to get better so we can have them for the playoffs. I just hope we don’t rush them back before then and something happens again. Injuries always hurts a team and what we need to do is win games. This Cleveland game could be a big boost for us and help us get confidence back. Knowing we beat one of the best in the East will show even with the record we have(which is still amazing). That we are still a force even with one of the best defensive players out.

i’ve been thinking about the way nowitski swung his elbows out, giving scal concussion #1. i don’t see too much of the mavs, but shortly after the scal incident, i was watching a mavs game on tv and there is dirk swinging his elbows in someone’s face. is he a headhunter? is this a common practice of dirko? if so, it’ dangerous and i think he got away with one against us. someone will retaliate some day and i won’t be sorry.

dirk's elbow move

either he does that does regularly or he saves it for the Celtics because he did the same thing to Pierce luckily this time no one was concussed and he got called for an offensive foul

It's too bad

I’d like to see TA back only to see how playing with Marbury would impact his game. I think they would fit very well together — athletic slasher and a PG how can deliver the ball where he needs it — with Eddie as the outside kick out option when the D collapses and Powe/BBD to clean things up.

We’re talking about a potentially devastating 2nd unit — even with all TA’s shortcomings.
