"I'm going to give it a shot and see how it goes," Allen said after a morning shootaround. "Today is a big day for me. I'm not looking at going out and scoring 50 points, nothing like that. Just getting in a rhythm and getting a feel for my new teammates and just trying to do what I can do to help."

Tony Allen, as reported by the Globe's Frank Dell'Apa

Finally some good news

Well, not to some maybe who detest Tony, but the increased depth at the 2/3 has to help out at the very least with easing up some minutes for Ray and Paul. The Ws and Ls really don’t mean too much the rest of the way, getting TA some minutes, even if bumpy and filled with turnovers and missteps, will be good for him and RA and PP. Please remember this those who love to point out every flaw of TA’s game, of which I admit there are many, and keep it in perspective.

Has he ever tried to go out and score 50?

Good to have some D back at the 2,3 spot.

Hope he stays healthy :)

Haha nice.

Maybe he’s worse than we thought, if he’s been trying to score 50 every night.

by Stu on Apr 1, 2009 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

same thought...but good to have a guy back nevertheless

maybe its the reason of him getting all those offensive fouls when he was trying to score 50

I like

Walker for our future at that spot in the depth chart.

well...it gives us depth

he can spot ray and paul…he plays pretty good defense but doesnt need to start shooting jumpers everytime down…now we scal and kg

Agreed

We are much thinner at the bigs. I’d trade a healthy TA any day for a Powe and Scal at 80%. We are just fine with being able to put House, Marbury, and Walker in there. Pruitt can even get some minutes if needed. I actually don’t mind a lineup with any combination of Rondo, House, and Marbury. That gives us some mismatches on our end even if it creates some their way. I loved the job that Marbury was doing against Durant the other night for a few possessions. He, like House, plays some pesky defense.

Nice

Good to have some depth back. Whatever he can contribute will help. Let’s hope this is the beginning of bodies getting healthy!

YES

This helps.

Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk

Does this mean no more Billy?

Cuz that would make me kinda sad.

by illantari on Apr 1, 2009 11:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

Crazy enough… I think I would take Bill over Tony at this point… considering the amount of time Tony has missed.

Besides, Billy getting these minutes will be invaluable for him down the road.

The last time he came back from injury

he came out and played within the flow of the game and for a few games was reasonably effective. I think it was due to him knowing physically he couldn’t beat his man off the dribble and split, or run through more likely, 2 other defenders. He looked to pass more and took open shots. He wasn’t bad defensively either. Then he got a few good games under his belt and slipped back into the TA we all know. Hopefully he will stay the “semi-injured” TA for a bit longer so we can get some productive minutes out of him. Then when he starts to become bad TA Doc can yank him to the bench.

More Rest for Pierce and Ray Allen

Tony can cover players that Eddie House and Bill Walker can’t. I just hope his thumb is fully healed.

It seems to me as though they brought Garnett back too soon. Let’s not make the same mistake with TA.

TA's defense

is over rated when healthy, though solid. He will be out of “game shape” though so I wouldn’t bet that his defense will be much better than Walkers. House I agree just purely due to size, however he is a very pesky ball denial defender.

by EJPLAYA on Apr 1, 2009 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wrong

TA’s the best perimeter defender we have…the numbers bear it out. He’s also the only true 2 we have on the bench…guys like House, Walker, Pruitt, Marbury…none of them have the athleticism or body to defend very well or for very long at the 2 spot.

If no health setbacks, TA completes our backcourt bench options…Doc will have multiple combinations to play in the playoffs…having offensive/defensive options every night, depending on matchups…all setup by the signing of Marbury, who frees House/TA to do what they do best. We have become an offensive team in KG’s absence…TA’s return should infuse some defense into the equation, giving us a more balanced attack…

Sweet!

Well, finally a nice surprise on the injury front. TA’s making a swift comeback from his surgery (which was like 6 weeks ago) and hopefully, as others have said, he can provide some much needed rest to Ray and Paul (who should each be given a game off in the next 4 games before KG’s next comeback). I guess the meeting with the doctor went well—it was reported that TA was going to meet with the doctor and see what he could and could not do…I guess it’s healed enough to do everything…

For the first time in a long time, a player actually comes back BEFORE the timetable given by Doc/Danny…..

Can’t wait to see him running with Marbury…finally a point guard who can set him up and leave him to concentrate on finishing, getting out on the break, and defending his man…

Yahoo

the season is saved. No need for KG anymore. Okay, you got me, I’m not a tony fan.

Good news

I’ve always though that not having Tony Allen more or less ready to go would hinder our chances of repeating somewhat significantly.

Now if he could keep this cautious, humble approach to the game till the end of his career…

by cordobes on Apr 1, 2009 2:17 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Good that TA feels well enough now that he’s willing to give it a go tonight, no matter how long that is. Chances are good that he’ll virtually be near 100% by the playoffs, now. Best news about team in a while, injury-wise. : )

But hey, enough preaching to the choir, I can’t wait until tonight, already!

Is it bad that I hoped this story was an April fools joke more than the Iverson post
