Paul Pierce
Paul Pierce is the man. If we win it’s all him offensively.
I haven't heard Mike Gorman yell this loud in months!!!
He was howling with glee and fierce fury each clutch play the C’s made tonite…
RAY ALLEN FOR THREE… GOT IT!!!!!!!!!
I love it…

Clutch Ray is all we need!
Too bad I missed it I started watching then my net broke.
Sweet Jesus Shuttlesworth!
They out rebounded us on both ends
They had more steals
They had more assists
They had fewer turnovers
They shot better from the foul line
They shot a higher % from the 3 pt line
and yet we have Jesus S. Clutch in our moment of need and that’s How the C’s skinned the Cats by Dr. Po Suess
Is it Soup Yet?
um
was i the only one who saw us almost lose the game off a horrible defensive coverage on the bobcat’s final possession.
not to be a debbie downer, but if that wide open three was made, we’d all be singing a different tune.
doesn’t that bother anyone else?
God bless and good night!
It sure does
Absolutely awful mistake to drop off a three-point shooter after he inbounded it.
Had the same exact conversation with The Guru after the game. Thanks for pointing this out, Brick.
That’s not to take anything away from Ray’s shooting, which might just get a mention in the Babble tomorrow – but I saw that last play exactly as you did. Even though he got screened by Okafor, that happened after he had already dropped away from Bell and would have needed to recover anyway.
My heart stopped when he took that shot.

Agreed
the Bobcats deserved to win that game, and we got lucky in so many different ways to get off our own homecourt with the W, including the last play where raja bell was wide open for the GW

Pierce Was Going At Bell
I called Doc after this play and the plan was for Pierce to go at Bell from straight on to bother the shot. He had a better angle at it than Ray would have had because Ray was guarding against an inbound pass toward the basket.

wowser- how to turn a lemon into lemonade. as much as pp and ray win the game, you have to love the role players on this team. rondo badabing! perk the beastly roar. eddie just continues to be the 6th player, and mikki was very good in the 1st half . you have to like the bobcats as well and i would love to have wallace on the c’s. the refs again were spotty. and i was down on doc in period 3, when he was getting nothing from his starters and he left them ou there way too long.
Now, take it easy on the Cryptkeeper.
Without him, I’d be left to villify Violet Palmer and Bennett Salvatore …
Cryptkeeper is right!!! and don't get me started on Salvatore...
Violet Palmer gets a pass, haven’t seen her call much…
The bobcats deserve the 8 seed, and are better then any other team who might get it, that mid-season trade was a great one for them and they are gelling now

It's over for the Celtics
Credit has to be given where credit is due, last year the Celtics won because they were the best team. Hence the term “were” as in past tense. It wasn’t surprising how good they did considering all the years of losing that the so-called “Big Three” had experienced and they exercised all there demons in one season. But, without KG at 100% the Celtics cannot win the title much less get out of the first or second round. You have a poll on your site about whether or not the Celtics can win without KG. They barely got out of the first round last year. Luckily, David Stern handed you a gift by not suspending KG for pushing a referee. He knew that without KG they could not even beat the Hawks. So this year you think it would be different? KG is the heart of the Celtics defense and without him that will be obvious. Enjoy, last year’s title because you are not on the verge of a dynasty but on the verge of another 22 years of being irrelevant in the NBA. Just look at the other post of a Celtic fan complaining as to why the Celtics should have traded for AI. The end is here, accept it. Even Bill Simmons has jumped ship

Man, that’s the funniest post I’ve read around here. Hold onto your “certainty” – clearly you are using it as a shield to deflect your own insecurities.
Nevertheless, allways nice to read some folks with other opinions.
Oooh, Bill Simmons… lol… NOT BILL SIMMONS… too funny.
Funny?
Insecurity? What is funny is that your only defense to my point of view is by referring to my own insecurities. Let’s talk basketball. This is not the Celtics year. Orlando cannot beat the Celtics but if KG is hurt there is no way you guys can win. I am not a fan of KG but I admire his defense. He is the Alonzo Mourning of your team. Every team needs a defensive presence and Paul Pierce and Ray Allen represent neither. Paul Pierce is clutch offensively but he could not have done what he did last year without KG clogging up the middle. Now! Is that funny enough for you? If a personal attack is all you can come up with don’t even bother replying.

Yes, it is funny.
Yes, there’s Celtic fan complaining about not trading for AI. haha.Talk to that fan about the david stern helping Celtics but not King and Kobe. He’ll be friend with u.
The AI post
was a joke. Literally. Read the last sentence of the post. It says APRIL FOOLS. So, there’s damage to your credibility #1
Also, the Celtics weren’t ‘irrelevant’ for 22 years. Check your facts. We may not have won a championship, but we weren’t irrelevant for the entire 22 year drought. What makes you think we’ll drop off for exactly 22 years? Because that’s how long it took us to win one after the ‘86 championship? We won’t drop off for 21 years or 23 years? Exactly 22? lol.
It’s obvious you’re very emotional toward the Celtics and it actually makes me happy to see someone go out of their way to express their opinion against us.
Bill Simmons jumps ship all the time; anyway, did the Celtics not beat the Cavs without KG? Even without a one hundred percent KG, the Celtics can win this entire thing because of two people: Paul Pierce and Walter Ray Allen, the two best clutch players in the league. The Celtics always have a chance to win because their defense keeps them in the game, and their great players put them over the top.
Defense + Clutch Players = Championship Team
Seriously? Ray Allen Clutch?
Paul Pierce is clutch but don’t you think that calling Ray Allen clutch is a bit far fetched? If he is clutch then tell me this, how far did he take the Sonics in the playoffs? Yes, defense does win titles but without KG as the anchor for that defense it will be difficult for them to win.
by This is not your year on Apr 1, 2009 11:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Seriously, you’re doubting Ray Allen’s clutchness (I know its not a word, but it sounds good)? Like I said, FIVE GAME WINNERS in the past two years; not even Roger Mason has that many. Clutch is not how far you take a team in the playoffs, its how many big shots you hit when the game is on the line. And like I said, there’s not a better duo than Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. And KG WILL be playing the playoffs, if you’ve been paying attention at all. In the games that KG was back last week, the offense suffered because he wasn’t in the flow of things, but the defense was fantastic and he wasn’t even 100 percent. The defense will be fine, whether KG is 100 percent or not.
Only Five
I guess if that is your defenition of what clutch is then I guess that is clutch. But, Celtic fans paint Ray Allen to be this amazing player when he isn’t. He is at best a role player which is why I refuse to see him as clutch. As far as KG, we will see depending on his injury. Yes, he has been hurt before but never like this. Had this of happened last year they would of not made it past Atlanta. So far, it does not look good.

I'll give you clutch...!!
So you think of Ray Allen as a role player, do you? I see. And after 5 C-bashing posts onhere, with noactual references to reality concerning the team, it’s players, game performances or actual facts, I’m not inclined to believe you have anything to offer in the way of relevant analysis… plus you’re a jerk…
That's right.
When you “refuse to see him as clutch”, he is not clutch anymore. That’s the power of refusal. This guy is always right. Dam
Ray a role player ..
Yes, you are damm right Ray is a role player. His role is as a clutch shooter nailing game winning 3s. That’s his role.

and now you are calling him that. please stop trying to irk commenters.
sorry dude
confused the two of you. man, this board is getting WEIRDDD
You says Ray isn't clutch and a role player
damages your opinion completely.
And no, not because your opinion differs from everyone on this blog, but because as a basketball your opinion is flawed. I almost think you’re saying these ridiculous things just to get a rise out of us, knowing that you don’t believe them.
C’mon, man. Seriously? Ray is a non-clutch role player? He’s one of the best shooters in NBA history. That’s a fact. Try using one yourself.
My Original Post Landed Down Further, But
Saying Ray Allen isn’t clutch because he didn’t take the Sonics to the playoffs doesn’t mean much. Basketball is a team game. On a good team each player makes the other players better. It’s not about clutch, it’s about Trust. The Sonics were a lousy team when Ray was there. The Celtics are a true team and a good one. You can see how important one missing player can be. Without KG it’s hard for other players to be “clutch”. Last nite Eddie House was put in the game to spread the floor. They had to guard him. This allowed Ray to be “clutch” last nite. But without House on the floor maybe Ray wouldn’t have been able to free himself to hit those shots. In summary, you can be “clutch” only if you’re playing on a good team. And I’m not talking about winning just one game with a buzzer beater. Any NBA player can do that a few times. You only hang banners when you win a Championship.

You're prob right, of course...
but there is a case to be made. The post was sudden, out-of-the-blue, obviously incongruous, and immediately belligerent. And it was strangely full of obvious errors… almost as if it were one of us, masquerading as a troll, while at the same time poking fun at the trolls.
O well… at least it stirred the pot after what was for me a pretty silly game.
Bizarre game indeed
It’s rare that a 56-19 team steals a game on its homecourt from a 34-40 team. Yet that’s just about exactly what happened.

I don’t know if you’ll see this or not,
but as I thought more about this strange apparent-troll’s posts, I realized it was almost certainly an April 1 prank, designed to expand or outdo you "blockbuster" story. Many reasons:
- If it was a troll, why pick today, when we won? When they’ve come in the past, it was on days we lost.
- We haven’t seen trolls around lately (mostly because the Lakers have their own troubles these days), so why now, all of a sudden? On April 1.
- I’ve never seen a post quite like that one. It was ridiculous, right? And it so happens that it squeaked in under the wire for April 1. Coincidence? I don’t think so. (Note that his last post was right around midnight. Did he turn into a pumpkin?)
- This guy wrote like a 5th grader in some parts, quite well in others. That’s what a fake (who is actually a writer) would do, to throw us off the scent. (Note also that his errors came in bunches… as if planned. It’s harder for a writer to write badly throughout a piece…. easier to insert mistakes here and there, in bunches.)
- This guy prepared his rant. And he was prepared for battle, as we saw from his quick retorts. And yet, he did not bother to simply glance down to the end of your "blockbuster" piece to see April 1? That’s hard to swallow. Note that this would be the ONLY person to miss that very obvious point. He’s gonna go to war in a hostile blog without doing even the most basic prep? Too weird to be true.
- He would have to be incredibly stupid/ignorant to make some of those arguments seriously… and yet he knows about the 22-year drought, knows all about KG, knows what happened last year, and knows all about KG’s injury this year. And his arguments are cogent (albeit completely misguided).
The line we have to walk to assume this guy was a troll is extremely thin. It’s much more likely that he was an insider. Possibly one of your buddies on this board. From the little I know of him, I don’t think it’s Jeff. Maybe one of the other guys. But I did note that you were very active on this thread, all night. And you have already shown an inclination to tomfoolery on this day. Therefore, I think the most likely identity of "This is not your year"… is you.
:)
Steve
Were the Celtic’s really playing on their home court last nite? After all the traveling do they really know where their home court is? Do they think they are still living out of a suitcase rather than in their own homes. What won the game last nite was Doc’s hammer. The one he bought to hit Big Beast if he wasn’t beastly.
"I don't come to play, I come to WIN"--Larry Bird
"Criminally Negligent Officiating"--Tommy Heinsohn
umm...
if you take a kg-like player off any team, they’re not winning. cavs – lebron aren’t even a 35 win squad. take duncan away from the spurs, kobe from the lakers, etc…, it’s what will happen. so that is a pretty pointless argument. as for stern doing us favors…did you actually watch the playoffs? you know, where atlanta was allowed to tackle us, but we couldn’t touch them, in the atlanta games? last year’s playoffs were a joke. the league did everything in its power to get as many game 7s as possible. atlanta maybe wins 1 game on us if it was called fairly. cleveland doesn’t get the refs handing them game 6 against us.

I don’t really have a good feeling about the playoffs this year, but this Team never ceases to surprise me. Just look at last nite. As a Celtic fan I felt that during those 22 years they would win the Championship. At the start of last season I thought they needed one year to gell as a team and then win the Championship. As I said, this Team never ceases to surprise me. So lets jump it up and we’ll see what happens.

Diaw/Bell, Ray
I really thought they were only good because they were in the ’Antoni (sorry, reading too much ’Bawful lately) system. They both showed that they are pretty darn good, though. Even Mike and Tommy were gushing.
On another note, it seemed like Ray was ice cold the whole game (I’m intentionally not looking at the stats to prove/disprove), but when it mattered, the ice went right into his veins!
As The Captain Said
In Paul’s post-game interview last nite he said Ray could miss 300 shots in a row and still believe he’d hit the next one. Then someone asked Pierce if he’d ever seen Ray miss 300 shots in a row. P.S. And don’t forget the airball before the winning three.

Great win!
Those are the best wins. When you have ever excuse to lose but you suck it up and win. That’s championship basketball.

He’s 69, has been reffing for close to 35 years and has never missed a game assignment. That from Mike Gorman last nite.
"I don't come to play, I come to WIN"--Larry Bird
"Criminally Negligent Officiating"--Tommy Heinsohn
He might never have missed a game assignment
But he sure has missed, and made up, plenty of calls. He is the classic case of a guy who really can’t see much any more, but when he thinks he sees what would be an oft missed call, he jumps from his skin with glee as if to say " I am a wily vet, you cannot get away with THAT one! Haha!" then dances his way into a phantom traveling call or 3 second call. Misses all the obvious stuff, but prides himself on the obscure, check the replay on Rondo’s so-called travel, he slipped, but his pivot foot never moved. Dick still had to do his dance.
Ray Allen not clutch. Can we say biased. Ray Allen has been nails in the playoffs and the regular season in close games, he hasen’t always scored a ton of points but can hit a clutch 3 at anytime.
What do you think of Reggie Miller, he couldn’t win anything with the Pacers, so I guess he isn’t clutch either. Other than MJ who would you consider “clutch”?
For starters, Mark Madsen
after all, he’s got two titles.

What a great win
I expected the C’s to win this game and was planning on saying it would be a “good” win but it is indeed a “great” win despite the rebounds, assists, steals, turnovers… etc.
Charlotte are a very good team. Larry Brown (and Michael Jordan) has put together a cast of players where there is no definitive “star”, they are all just solid players pretty much. Have a look at the boxscore- 7 players in double figures and noone above 20 points. I’ve always wondered whether a team like this could win a championship and now the Bobcats are gonna give it a try (over the next few years, that is).
They also just knocked off the Lakers for the second time this year and 6th time in 7 games.
GREAT win!

Someone talk to me about Stephon
Didn’t get to see the game. How did he do? I see 17 minutes, 0 assists and some points? Was he useful?
- Dirk
He was solid...
…enough to help keep the C’s from falling further behind in first half, and in the second half had some good moments and some bad ones. Overall, played well enough to not hurt the team…,
Nice D and in the flow
Didn’t do anything special, but he kept the ball flowing nicely on offense, and played some pretty good D. Didn’t have the worst +/- on the team, but didn’t have the best either (that belonged to House, the other hero not named Ray/PP of this game)
Stephon
He was solid, but not spectacular. He did hit one fall away as the 24 second clock went off. Those 2 points could have been the difference between winning and losing. But, most importantly he was part of the second unit that got the C’s going in the 2nd quarter. Eddie House was really the star then, but Marbury and House seem to work well together. Also, Marbury didn’t do anything to hurt the Celtics.

Nice win, but
We played poorly for most of this game. Our offense, until mid-way through the 4th quarter was one-on-one, isolation basketball, each player seemingly trying to make up for the loss of KG by themselves. And our defense wasn’t much better. It wasn’t until Doc went small and opened up the court for Rondo that we once again started playing Celtics basketball.
by SalmonAndMashedPotatoes on Apr 2, 2009 7:49 AM EDT reply actions
Doc admitted as much and ventured that he shoulda done that earlier...
But credit was given to the bench for two distinct “LIFTS” – meaning fresh legs – and the main reason for the turnovers was the activation of Dr. Ex-celt-sior’s (our evil nemesis’ diabolical weapon), “The dumb machine”, as pointed out by Heinsohn in the second half.
Gotta Hand it to Eddie too
I’ve been all over House for his defense this season…but down the stretch when Doc went small and House was forced to guard Raja Bell, he did a very good job sticking to him and not letting him use his height to his advantage.
Of course, his defense on DJ Augustin was a different story :) But overall, Eddie did a great job playing both ends of the court tonight…

I re watched last nite’s game on my DVR. Within the last 3 minutes the C’s were still out of it. But a great block by Perk got the crowd into it. Eddie then hit a couple of three’s and Perk had another great block. After that the C’s got the game into overtime. I just think we need to give these guys some credit also, as well as the bench for keeping us in it in the 2nd quarter.
