It's The Bulls

The Bulls lost to the Raps and the Cavs blew a chance to tie the 86 Celtics record for home wins.  So the Sixers slide into the 6 seed and we get the Bulls in the first round.

Why not?

They blew the game because they didn’t care about the record – that’s why they rested the starters -, but I wouldn’t say they didn’t deserve it.

by cordobes on Apr 16, 2009 6:04 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed, they clearly DID deserve it, and IMO were pretty stupid not to just achieve it, all they had to do was play one starter or significant bench player last night.
its a message from mike brown that they arent after regular season records, all they want is a championship, in which case his team is now further motivated, and probably a little ticked off.

this is going to be

a tough tough series for boston….6 or 7 games…orlando will sweep philly…..

Cavs are full of themselves

the cavs thought they would beat the Sixers with their scrubs and boost after…it all backfired on them, haha!

Bring on any team that...

folds to the Toronto Raptors in the biggest game of their season…that loss just ended the Bulls season…they would have a much better shot against Orlando…we will beat them in 5 games if not a sweep…

62 and no bull

the bulls are athletic and they have length. we can beat but we have to work. let’s hope we have kg.

by nazzbo on Apr 15, 2009 11:10 PM EDT reply actions

boston better set the tone come saturday...

they destroyed the bulls 3 times and had a chance to win the 4th one….remember boston had no baby, tony allen or KG vs chicago the last game and powe got hurt…i think pierce was playing center in that game at some point….and i dont see salmons going for 38 again on boston

by celticinorlando on Apr 15, 2009 11:12 PM EDT reply actions

After that last loss, I didn’t want to see Chicago again.

After readiing your post it made me realize that I didn’t look at the whole picture. Hopefully, with the Celtics at full strength they will play a lot better.

We got one of the hottest teams. The Bulls lost just once at home after the All-Stars break.
.
Instead of calling them tanking, I say this is just positioning. Gutless wonders do it all the time to avoid early exits. That’s why I was not surprised to see Orlando dropped a few games when Detroit was still at the 7th.

by This is NOT NOT our year on Apr 15, 2009 11:13 PM EDT reply actions

they also shot 41 free throws in that win over boston

and still only won by 6…if i recall boston had a chance late to win the game

by celticinorlando on Apr 15, 2009 11:15 PM EDT reply actions

If teams really tank to avoid certain match-ups that’s truly pathetic. Where’s the competitive fire and the quest for challenge? It’d serve them right if whoever they got stomped on them on the way to the next round.
On a brighter note the playoffs are finally here. Woohoo go Celtics!

we arent that good and are poorly coached. worst case scenario for boston is a 6 game win, probably 5

da terri-bulls it is

Bulls definitely better than Philly so the series will be a little more of a challenge but I’m not fearing an upset even without KG. That Toronto-Bulls game tonight was weird, I don’t think it was a tank job (it just doesn’t make sense) having watched some of it it just seemed like the Raps were playing carefree and made shots (Jake Voskuhl hit a 3 and Paddie O’bryant was nailing jumpers) and the Bulls couldn’t throw it in the ocean and were pressing.

by flexilexi on Apr 15, 2009 11:33 PM EDT reply actions

Given the C’s sometimes tendency to play day to the opposition, maybe its just as well its the Bull. Bulls.

by Tenacious D on Apr 15, 2009 11:35 PM EDT reply actions

Please pardon my trolling. I am a self-admitted, diehard Bulls fan but realistically, they don't have a prayer.

Our quickest player will be neutered by Rondo who is almost just as quick but is a much better defender.

Salmons has become a shell of himself since his groin injury after averaging 24 pts a game as a Bull.

Deng is out for the year with a stress fracture.

The Bulls defensive schemes consist of primarily playing soft zones and switching at the wrong time, which leads to mismatches for our midget guards to overcome, so KG and the Celtic bigs along with Pierce and Allen can go bonkers in the post. Vinny DelNegro is completely overmatched in any close game if the outcome depends on real time strategy. He is trying to learn on the fly, but with so many games, our raw rookie leader with zero previous experience hasn’t been able to finish his training videos from NBA TV’s Coaching for Dummies series.

Although now that Chuck Daley is no longer on the scene, none of his peers can compete with his hair, unfortunately unlike Sampson, he doesn’t need Delilah with a pair of scissors to make him any more ineffective than he already is. If you think I’m just being facetious, wait till you see his substitution patterns which cause most Bulls fans to pull out their own hair, trying to figure out what if anything, he was thinking.

The NBA wants a Celtic/LeBron Eastern final. Just as Jordan’s Bulls got the majority of the calls during their championship years, the refs swallow their whistles when they play the current Bulls. Apparently, there is no such thing as a moving screen or a hacking foul when KG is involved which plays a big part in the Celts so called vaunted defense. Remember the old days before the arrival of KG and Allen, they couldn’t buy a call against the elite teams. Now you know how Bulls fans feel.

Our young Bulls like Noah and Thomas are atheltically gifted but have a difficult time keeping their cool when getting jobbed by the officials (which will happen).

The Bulls only hope, which lays somewhere between infinitely slim and none, would be if Ben Gordon goes on a shooting rampage, KG reinjures his knee, D. Rose elevates his game to the level of Magic Johnson in his prime, Tyrus Thomas blocks 8 shots per game without being whistled or called for goal tending and Vinny comes down with a severe case of the Japanese Guff-Guff, forcing him to spend the entire series getting an IV at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

So us long suffering (since the end of the Jordan era) Chicago fans would appreciate if you could keep your gloating down to a minimum and just enjoy thrashing a young, ineperienced Bulls team who will have to wait for the maturation of our rookie super stud in a few years to try to avenge our predestined humiliation in 2009.

I enjoyed the visit. If you want to read more pessimism from Bulls fans, hop over to BlogaBull. We may be loyal but have almost no kool-aid drinkers on our site, thanks to the inspirational leadership of our main cynic your Friendly Bulls Blogger, Matt who runs the whole operation.

(doesn’t sound like trolling to me).

Appreciate the thoughts from the other side – though I think you’re stretching it a bit re: KG and moving screens.

Beyond that, looking forward to making some visits over to BaB – Matt et al. really do a fantastic job there.

What is he gonna take to his privates with a scalpel? LOL.

Also …. “almost just as quick” …. ALMOST? Um, have you ever seen him play. ALMOST?

Bwahahaha.

by libermaniac on Apr 16, 2009 12:31 AM EDT reply actions

I apologize for using the wrong verb. I must have been thinking of the vicious knee to the groin that the Pistons laid on Ben Gordon in their previous game.

It took him 24 hours to get rid of his falsetto voice. Are you happier with neutralized?

Yes, I have seen Rondo play many times and he is lightening quick. Apparently you haven’t done much observing of D. Rose, because he is quicker. If the Bulls were able to get away with setting as many moving screens as the Celts do for Rondo, it wouldn’t even be debatable on who is the fastest. On a scale of 1 to 10, Rondo is a 9, while Rose is at least an 11.

Rose's speed

You are right, I haven’t watched much of Rose since college, but, he never impressed me as being lightening quick. Obviously, he’s tremendously talented and has great moves and is a strong finisher, but again, quickness is not the first adjective I think of when I think of Rose. I’ll have to watch him more closely.

Here’s the nbadraft.net profiles for both … both ranking 10 of 10 in speed.

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/rajon-rondo
http://www.nbadraft.net/players/derrick-rose

But, I still think for you to call Rondo “almost” as fast as Rose is a bit humorous. They don’t make ‘em any quicker than Rondo – they just don’t.

by libermaniac on Apr 16, 2009 1:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Rose's speed

If Rose was quicker than Rondo how would you know? He’d be invisible!!

by Celtics9Lakers2 on Apr 16, 2009 1:37 AM EDT up reply actions

i respectfully disagree

rose impressed me a bit more by his jumping ability n’ strong ability to finish in the paint. His penetration is very good but doesnt quite rely on his speed(he is still quick, a good ankle breaker, and too strong for most 1 guards.).

by aeternus on Apr 16, 2009 4:27 AM EDT up reply actions

subtle.

I think by Rondo he meant Ray Allen, and no not a scalpel. An elbow.

moving screens

Your right, we get away with murder against every team. Thats why the refs loved us agains LA and Cleveland AT HOME this year. We have not been allowed to play the D we can this year because of the refs.

by angryguy77 on Apr 16, 2009 12:46 AM EDT reply actions

We lost at home to LA this year with controverasial call after call, and KG fouled out on a BS call.
The FT disparity in the cavs advantage last time they came to boston was sickening.

huh?

by TheAncientRivalry on Apr 16, 2009 7:00 AM EDT up reply actions

If you read my post, I said the refs swallow their whistles against the Bulls (average to mediocre team)

just as they did when the Jordanaires played their lesser foes. Pippen and Jordan would do everything short of ripping their opponents arms out of their sockets to create a steal while Rodman’s elbows and shoves in the back just as his opponent was going up under the boards created lots of business for local chiropracters and helped Dennis lead the league in rebounds as well as rainbow hairdos.

However, David Stern does have his favorites in order to promote prime time matchups and prime ratings. If you read a recent article by Sam Smith (famous veteran Bulls beatwriter at Bulls.com) he has statistical proof that LeBron gets away with murder (even moreso than Jordan in his glory years). Meanwhile, the Lakers have always relied on their 8 to 5 advantage in key games when things are getting close.

The Bulls are not the Cavs or the Lakers, so you can relax until you have to meet them regarding whether to get favorable or unfavorable treatment from the officials. Keep your eyes out for Tyrus Thomas to make a spectacular but completely clean block and still get called for a foul or Hinrich to be called for traveling after slightly moving his pivot foot. Meanwhile LeBron and Kobe are both allowed to go from the top of the key on their way to delivering a highlight slam drunk without even dribbling and never get called for traveling.

Since the Celts were the newest thing last year, the finals were called objectively and the Lakers got annihalated by your “in your shorts” defenders, with a lot of assistance from ex-Bull P. J. Brown. The softies from LA were used to being treated like prima donnas all season and couldn’t adjust to the reality of a fairly called series.

Unfortunately, for the beantowners, this season’s flavor of the year is LeBron James, so if the playoffs come down to close plays expect to get screwed by the refs. That’s just the way it’s done in the WWF, excuse me I meant to say NBA. Stern and company want to highlight the matchup in the finals and possible passing of the baton from the leagues best player last year (Kobe), to LeBron. Every other scenario is just a sideshow, I’m afraid. But for you fans old enough to remember you can still bask in the memories of the Larry Bird era while we hang on to the fading memories of Micheal Jordan and his 6 championships.

I agree, and may the playoffs bring additional dialogue of worthy caliber… it’s great when the other teams fans are into SHARING the wonder and essential fun at the heart of being a fan, loving the game and the power and grace of the athletic feats we witness, and able to talk about good and bad and enjoy all that on a blog – without the whole “we’re #1” or “you suck” type anti-posts often seen here…

Interestingly, this will be the last year..

That a patsy team like Philly will make the East Playoffs in a while. MIA, ATL, CHI and DET are legit teams on their day. The East is becoming tough again!!

However, the C’s will have no problems with Chicago.

by mec1 on Apr 16, 2009 8:32 AM EDT reply actions

Chicago will prove to be tough.

I believe we win in 6, because John Salmons toats us for one win in philly, and we blow a close one at home because the Bulls “smell the fear” as they say, and charge…
