Dan Shaughnessy Wants You To Hate Him
I would probably dislike Shaughnessy if I ever gave him any thought anymore. But for those of you that still take him seriously, here are his quotes designed to get a rise out of you. Enjoy... I guess.
Most of us don't think the Celtics are going to repeat as world champions. Why? Because Garnett (sprained knee) won't be 100 percent and might not be a factor at all if things turn for the worse when he resumes practice today in Waltham.
Two other reasons they won't win: the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers. Both are better than the Celtics. And both have home-court advantage over Boston.
This feels like Cleveland's year just like last year felt like Boston's year. The Cavs have the best record and the best player. They went 39-2 at home. The only team in NBA history to go 40-1 at home was the 1985-86 Celtics. Some of us believe that team was the best in the history of basketball.
It isn't that he's saying anything too outlandish. You could absolutely argue that the Cavs are better than the Celtics this year. There are huge, blinking, neon question marks around Kevin Garnett. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. What most Celtic fans will object to is the smarmy, doomsday predicting, "I-can't-wait-to-say-I-told-you-so" way this writer is trying to relive from his Curse of the Bambino glory days. Been there, done that, hated it then, still hate it now. Move along.

Strange. I can't feel "Cleveland's year."
And congrats to the Sixers for a superbly-timed W.

Nope. Not having it.
I’m sure Dan knows, but he conveniently forgets to mention the steady improvement of our bench, most notably Leon and Baby, along with marbury, the steady recuperation of Tony Allen and the further development of Rajon Rondo and Kendrick Perkins. These are not last year’s Boston Celtics. These guys are better. I’ll take my chances.
True that, Jeff...
…and you are right on about hating this Bob-Ryan wanna-be…yeach… of course, he had championed Boston’s teams with a smile-as-you-choke Mike Barnicle/Nora Ephron dichotomic (look it up) writing style since they first let him into the locker room… i think he should stick to hockey – his most challenging task would be describing claude julien’s coaching style…
if he says one word now
I’ll officially hate him

Very good article
Well written with good arguments for his cause. I prefer sport writers who aren’t worried about how over-emotional home fans will receive their articles. If he feels the Cavs are better, what’s the problem of writing it?
He's really going out on a limb with that one, eh?
What terrific analysis about a 66 win team.
He's only interested in story lines
And to him, the best ones are where the local teams have trouble. He doesn’t need to be a fan of course, but many local scribes are, he even says he is. I heard him recently lament how boring spring training was this year without the drama of Manny, the outspoken Schilling, etc. when asked his analysis of the team.
That is an analysis of the Red Sox chances this year? He is interested in one thing, himself, story lines that amuse/interest him. Why NESN has him on as some sort of analyst of players and teams abilities is beyond me, none of that interests him, only drama, and negative drama at that. Sounds like he’ll have to do a bit more than that to save the Globe however.
so, was shaughnessy a prophet or a curse?
or does he just have some insider info?
he published that article many hours before doc announced the news about KG.
Dan is weak
I can’t stand Shaughnessy. As much as I like and admire the Sox ownership, I dislike reporters like Shaughnessy crawling into their laps.
Here’s the thing about the C’s and the playoffs. The games still have to be played. The best thing that can happen to the C’s is that teams take them lightly.
