Maybe Playing The Pistons Wouldn't Be Bad

From today's Daily Dime

"I'd rather retire before I do this again. I can't be effective playing this way. I'm not used to it. It's tough for me both mentally and physically.

Way to go AI, keeping my bet alive. I made a $500 bet 7 years ago that Steve Nash, AI and Vince would never win a championship and things couldn’t be going better. I will say about AI, he’s one of the honest ones, and that earns my respect. He’s a team player alright, when he’s on the Dream Team.

How many posts til someone says the “p” word I wonder?

The worst part is....

That you remember a bet you made 7 years ago…sounds made up to me…

LOL, it sure isn’t. Poke around the posts, I’m the biggest Steve Nash hater on this site, and the other two are so out to lunch I don’t even bother. Calderon’s number 4. They have to all be retired for 2 years, then I get my scrilla.

Playing the Pistons

Ive felt this way before AI came back into the picture. They are the least athletic team of all in the playoffs(imo).Atlanta,Philly, and Chicago have young athletic players who can give any team fits.Miami has D-Wade we all know can be scary.Who does Detroit have besides Rip that can score at will.If you shut Rip down, thats basically 1/3 of their offense…with all the other teams,on any given night they have a few guys who can step up and beat you with athleticism and hustle. At least we bascially know what to expect from DETROITTT.

The Pistons aren’t scary at all. I agree that Rip is the only guy that’s going to beat you. Rasheed isn’t motivated, AI is a talented player whose style of play helps teams lose. Prince doesn’t seem as good without Billups. But most of all, the young guys havn’t really improved at all this year. I thought Stuckey and Amir Johnson would be far better than they are right now, and I love Maxiell but he’s not getting much PT. Playing Detroit would be fine with me.

Make up your mind!

Can’t we just agree the best thing to do is to win as many games as possible, regardless of conjectures about the seeds? Then you deal with the hand you get.

In regards to AI, good ridance.

Could have been a nice fit in green...

Manuel Aristides Ramirez is the greatest hitter I've ever seen.

Dream on...

as for the possibilities… If given a choice between AI and Steph – which would you take? AI may be overall greater and have more to offer than Steph, but Steph is getting it done off the bench, and you know he wants to start… so would AI work out similarly on the C’s, or would he just ‘not’?

True, true

I’m not devastated because KG and Ray have been passable and the best is the enemy of the good.

by cordobes on Apr 2, 2009 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I would agree and disagree...

Matchups are huge in the NBA, especially in a 7 game series. There are certainly some teams I’d rather play than others, so although I think winning the most games you can and getting the highest seed possible is obviously the idea, I’m not sure words are wasted on debating who we would rather play. Playing the Pistons in the first round will be a huge advantage for us. That would be like hitting the lottery.

I still have respect for him

He just has drama all over him like Marbury does, and he has a childish behavior at times. I think Pistons trading away Billups shorten their chance of being destructive. That back count duo was the best in the NBA and they took it away for A.I.? Now look at Denver they have improved and Pistons have declined. I honestly think that Philly were better off without him seeing they didn’t have to deal with his attitude.

If we face them in the playoffs and honestly I don’t think it matters what team we go against in the first round. As long they are healthy and play their hearts out then we will win it easily.

by illestmcsgt on Apr 2, 2009 11:52 AM EDT reply actions

I do have more respect for Billups and you have to think A.I. never won a championship because he always been ‘The Man’ when in philly. We doesn’t really know how to be a team player and trying figure it out like Marbury is.

It isn't about playing Detroit

It is about WHEN we play Detroit. We will beat the Pistons in a series, but it would be better for them to match up with Orlando in the first round because I really think they can knock off the Magic. Then we beat them in the second to move on to meet the Cavs in the conference finals. If we were 100% healthy then I really wouldn’t care when we played anyone, however with the injury bug we need some help getting there.

I'll repeat what I posted 2 days ago on Blademan88's poll...

The funny part is 50% of celtics bloggers said they would least want to play the Pistons in the first round…not sure why.

The Pistons are the team I’d most like to play. They have absolutely no chance of beating anyone in the playoffs. Rasheed Wallace has been in tank mode ever since the Billups trade (see 12 ppg and 42% from the field). Rip Hamilton just hates his situation right now. He’s mad as hell, and that usually doesn’t lead to good teamwork. Look for him to be playing on an island in the playoffs. Allen Iverson over the last few years has just been exposed. I mean there are still people who think it’s not his fault (baffling). He has never been very efficient and he’s never played defense. You do not win championships with that combination. You don’t even win many playoff series. He’s also the reason everyone on Detroit is pissed off. Well him and Joe Dumars. Like a tennis player down 5-0/set point, the towel has already been thrown in and they will probably get swept in the first round, whoever they play.

Foregone

Is it a foregone conclusion that the CAVS will be in the EC finals?
No.

Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk

by mcpu40 on Apr 2, 2009 12:41 PM EDT reply actions

Yes it is...

This is the NBA, they play 7 game series. Nobody in the East outside of Boston is beating the Cavs. That’s fact. Sure could they get a scare? Absolutely, but they will not lose. Only we can beat them in the East, and possibly in the entire NBA.
