Cs Eye Game 2 Redemption
Chicago Bulls at Boston Celtics, Apr 20, 2009 7:00 PM EDT

The Celtics didn't begin the 2009 NBA Playoffs as well as they would've liked. Granted, Game 1 was extremely intense and showcased a marvelous head-to-head battle from point guards Derrick Rose and Rajon Rondo, but you never want to allow the road team to steal Game 1 from you in your building. Especially in overtime, as the defending champions, at the expense of an unstoppable (at least on that day) rookie.
Boston wasn't the only higher-seeded club to blow a Game 1, however. Portland got romped by Houston on Saturday night, while Dallas played tough in San Antonio and Philadelphia pulled off a late 18-point comeback to steal one from Orlando.
Regardless, what's in the past stays in the past, and there is still plenty of basketball to be played. As Tyson Chandler said last night after New Orleans' 113-84 Game 1 loss to Denver, you'll take yourself out of a series quickly if you dwell on previous outings. If you lose a game, you lose a game. From there, you've got to move on and try to get the next one.
Tonight, the Celtics will look to redeem themselves back at the TD BankNorth Garden in Game 2. Should Chicago manage to somehow pull off back-to-back victories, the defending champs would be knee-deep in trouble. On the same note, this team is more than capable of taking care of business tonight and taking homecourt advantage back in either Game 3 or 4.
Get your popcorn ready.

Primary Focus: Play Celtics Basketball
Simply saying "play Celtics basketball" is very vague. There are two things we should look for our beloved Celtics to do tonight. First and foremost, they need to close off penetration and refuse to allow Derrick Rose to dominate the paint like he did in Game 1. One of the keys in doing this is Rajon Rondo making the mental decision to move his feet and stay in front of him (easier said than done), as opposed to gambling and hoping that he can poke the ball free from behind. Take away as many lanes as possible, and make the Bulls shoot as many jumpers as possible. Even Tyrus Thomas. Trust me, he will not go 8/12 every night.
On the other side of the floor, the Celtics need to do what they have done since 2008 training camp: play as a team. Move the basketball. In Game 1, Doc Rivers and the Celtics fan base were very disappointed with all of the one-on-one play and lack of ball reversals, swings, and draw-and-kicks. As Doc noted, it seemed as though everybody was trying to be "the man." If the Celtics want to win games and advance in these playoffs, they're going to have to move the ball and work for better shots.

Primary Focus: Own the Glass
Prior to Game 1, I noted that it was important for Chicago to make their presence felt on the glass. They did just that, as they held a 54-45 rebounding advantage and even got 17 out of Joakim Noah by his lonesome. If Chicago can continue to hit the boards like they did in Game 1, they'll continue to give Boston problems.

Redemption?
God helps those who help themselves, especially those who get back on defense. Sinners who give up easy baskets are never forgiven.
Go Celtics!
The team must not be disturbed by the absence of KG or the previous loss, they have to come focused and aggressive to tie the series and blow out the confidence boost of the Bulls. I expect a big game from Ray and a good collective effort overall. Let’s go C’s!

Have fun tonight. Will be watching on the DVR late night when I get home.
When Perk was asked what he thought of Howard winning the gold medal this summer, he responded: "What’s his impression of me after I won a ring?"
I think you are PO-tentially DELUSIONAL
Quite cutting those pills in half and just take the whole dose.

I honestly think the KG thing was in their heads in game 1 . They know now that they can’t wait for KG and that if they are going to win this series they’ll have to do it themselves. I think we’ll play better tonight but I still think it will be a close game and in fact I think the whole series is going to be close. We’ve lost the last games to them in OT and each of the games have been realtively high scoring as far as our D goes. We need to establish our D in the first half tonight and not wait until the 3rd qtr to get going. If you let a team get confidence ( like we did last year with atlanta) then they will hang around. We are at a height and speed advantage in their series so we need to play physical and control the glass with our bodies and position. If we get whacked on the glass again they’ll beat us in transition. Pierce is our best matchup. Not to knock Salmons but he’s not strong enough to guard Pierce so Paul needs to go right at him. Obviously we need some out side shots to fall as well so eddie and ray need to get open and knock down some shots. If ray struggles again I’d play tony allen a ton
Tired of the moral victories
Anyone agree? All i hear is excuses from my fellow Celtics fans. Not just after game 1, but after we lost to the Fakers (twice), and Cleveland (twice) and the Magic (twice) and the Bulls in the reg season and Milwaukee, and New York, and etc. I’m tired of the excuses. I just want a real win.

Recipe for success
1. Ram it down low: Powe and Perk need multiple opportunities in the post. To do so, we’ll need good ball movement. Guys like Baby, Paul, and Ray need to trust the offense. Put the ball in Rondo’s hands and get into our sets quickly.
2. Get back in transition: we gave up 25 points on the fast break last game. That can’t happen tonight.
3. Make Rose shoot jumpers. No more layups. This is the freaking playoffs! If Rose gets to the rim, introduce him to the parquet. No more soft fouls.
4. Rebound: it’s gotta be a team wide effort, but Perk, Powe and Baby need to get Noah off the glass and take the ball at him on offense. Make him lose his cool. Get into his head. Pull his hair if you have to…

Not only do the Cs have to win,
they have to win decisively. The Bulls got in their heads and it will take a huge team effort to knock the confidence out of this young team. The Bulls are on a roll and they know it. Remember what happened to us the last time we played in Chi-town? This team matches up very well against us. The thing that we miss besides KG’s defensive rebounding is his ability to pass from the low post. Our offense is much more limited now and our shooters are feeling a little more pressure because defenses are not doubling down low and they are still playing soft on Rondo’s outside shot.

Powe Owns Noah
Lets get Leon some serious minutes tonight. He has always destroyed these guys when given the chance. Baby seems to suffer from LSU/Florida flashbacks and just isn’t getting it done.
Online Viewing?
Unfortunately I’m in class and away from a tv. Is there anywhere online I can view this game? I tried Justin but it was pretty crappy options.
Good luck, and hopefully a good game!
Hey guys, nice blog here. Bulls fan, but if the boys can’t take another one off of ya, I hope it’s a good game at least!
bulls fan here
may the team that plays the best win.
…just don’t want to see the refs decide the game one way or another
...there's some folks that, if they don't know, you can't tell 'em.
this is a little too close for comfort
we have about 9 minutes to avoid a 1st round exit. injuries are killing us
