Yeah, I hate referees.
No foul on Salmons?
No charge on Rose?
Phantom foul on Pierce during the inbound?
Not to mention that everyone other than Ray and Rondo look tired.

The Calls went both ways
I am disappointed to see this as the first comment. Both teams played hard fought games, and yes, in double overtime players will look tired, especially on an aging team. We were tired, no doubt about it – and the bulls have younger legs. They came out with fire in the second OT and we couldn’t keep up.
yea.
bulls fan here, again. i think the s****y calls went both ways, but in a double overtime game in the playoffs, it is the rare time that experience matters less than youth. nonetheless, both teams put in a helluva game and this series is keeping up with the maximum entertainment factor. and most of you guys here are wicked class acts, so it’s not too bad reading your blog or posting here…seeya at the gahden…
The Future is Unwritten
There was horrible refereeing (and missed FTs) throught the game against both sides.
1) Salmons got all ball. Refs arent going to bail you out on a last second call.
2) I think that was a charge on Rose, but Scalabrene was also moving on that one where Rose was called with a charge
3) That inbounds play should have been 5 seconds… but Hinrich also got raked across the arm by Ray on that offensive board/shot.
The list goes on an on… Ray Allen’s switching of the pivot foot at the end, Brad Miller’s take down of Ray…
So yeah it was a poorly called game, both it was equally poor both ways.
Wasn’t talking about the last play regarding Salmons.
I can go on, too:
The entire first half where Pierce was clobbering going to the basket and didn’t receive a single whistle.
Brad Miller shoulder blocking Pierce to the floor on a rebound.
Brad Miller shoving Ray Allen to the floor at the end of regulation.
Ray didn’t travel there, either. Don’t buy into chronic Celtic hater Mike Breen’s commentary. He gets all frazzled when anything is remotely close to being an infraction against the Celtics. The playoffs, when he was calling the C’s games, were near unlistenable. And it was almost as hard to listen to him flat out become cheerleader for the Bulls yesterday. JVG and Mark Jackson disagreed with him on almost everything.
Anyway, Celtics could have won if they hit their FTs and Scal wasn’t such a tool on that breakaway. Bulls capitalized and that’s that.

RR Congrats on a great game.
Memo to PP – this IS NOT the old Antoine Walker days!!!!! Come on PP – you can do better. No more words or time do i have for this bad afternoon
Keep the faith – ughhhhh
Is it Soup Yet?
The good news is ....
1 – No Celtic got injured in this game
2 – Series goes longer giving Garnett more time to rehab his knee! :)
Rondo pretty much played the whole game...
I just pray his ankles will be ok come Tuesday…
let the bulls live and gave
them confidence for game 5….i expect another close game tuesday

the bad news is...
1-Pierce gets absolutely no calls this year in the playoffs
2-He responds by playing like the pre-big three Pierce
3-Bulls figured out that if they can foul Perk out (which isn’t hard to do) then the paint is wide open
4-our bench still has done nothing this series
FOUL THEM AT THE END AND LET THEM SHOOT FREE THROWS!!
instead gorden sinks the 3-
talk about a bad call-!! (coaching staff )
foul them and if they sink both free throwz we still have tha ball with a one point lead.
not so simple..
they make both free throws and then they foul one of our guys and he misses one or two, then they have a shot to win the game
Bad coaching call? Didn't PP blow his defensive coverage?
The coaching staff made the right call, but PP blew his defensive assignment. I seems to me the more experience PP get’s the less experienced he plays.

what???
pierce was all over gordon. that was excellent defense. that shot was the equivalent of a hail mary.

Were you watching the same game? Pierce sucked.
If that was excellent defense, then Allen Iverson is the Defensive Player of the year. Paul Pierce has been sucking the life out of the Celtics in this series. The guy showed up for Game 3 out of the 4 games played so far in this series, but you’d think he just saved the world from an alien invasion. The guy blew his defensive assignment big time. When are people going to hold Pierce accountable for his lollygagging performance in this series.
by The Village Idiot on Apr 26, 2009 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions
Gordon is the one lollygagging on defense
Some of the replays showed Gordon 10 feet away from Ray and not even trying to close. He apparently believes shooting is the only important skill…

The Truth Hurts.
Awful game from Pierce.
If Pierce hits his free throws in Games 1 and 4, we would have swept.
God bless and good night!
Great entertainment
For the 2nd game out of 4 Pierce could have ended it at the free throw line. He looks very tired but he willed himself through those OTs and that was a helluva put back in money time. But he also was critically slow on Ben Gordon on his game saving OT 3.
Rondo also was fantastic.
Don’t know about Tony Allen but a shout out to Scal. He was awesome and allowed Mikki to stay where he belongs.
free throw shooting has cost boston 2 games
and i would foul and make them make the FT’s instead of allowing gordon getting a nice good look from three

This is kinda ironic. You complain about the free throw shooting then suggest a scenario where they would have had to shoot more free throws.

free throw shooting
actually should have been a bigger impact on the bulls…they missed 8 or 9…important ones, at that…

true
if thomas passes to rose at the end of regulation then rose goes to the line and, in my mind, hits two to put the bulls up four, thus negating allens heroics.

Big Baby had a few nice plays to keep us in this down the stretch but he missed way too many easy layups right next to the basket. That is inexcusable in playoff basketball and in a close game like this, hurts a lot. We need better play from him in the next game, and he needs to finish better around the hoop.

Perk's gotta cut down on his moving picks ...
His 2 offensive fouls in the 4th killed the Celtics momentum … and a chance to make their lead bigger.
When will he ever learn how to set the right pick or not to try to do so when he is out of position?
agreed, but
noah sets even more obvious moving picks almost every time, and almost never gets called for them. the refs have not been consistent at all for most of this series, and we’ve been on the short end of the stick most times.

Thrilling game
This is being a very entertaining series.
Tough loss.
This one is on Doc. & Rondo. Why not foul Gordon and let them shoot free throws when you know that our defense has been horrible all game long? At the end of the 2nd OT why pass to Pierce when you know he has been struggling all game? Why not pass the ball to Ray Allen? Bad, bad decisions.
should have fouled salmons
before passing to gordon
by celticinorlando on Apr 26, 2009 6:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Totally agree
If Doc had his team foul while the ball was in 2 point territory (ie Salmons), the Celtics very likely would be up 3-1 in this series.
Doc also showed why he is so good at diagraming plays out of timeouts several times in this game.
How can you put any blame on Rondo?
The guy is shredding our beloved Bulls. This is on Pierce more than Rondo. He should not be a liability. You should be able to get the ball to Pierce or Allen at the end of the game and feel confident about the outcome. But as a Bulls’ fan, I wanted the Ball in Pierce’s hands more than Allen or Rondo. Pierce is either too tired, or has mentally checked out. It’s almost as if he doesn’t care because he doesn’t think the C’s can win it all without KG so why even try.
Out of both teams, Rondo has been the BEST player on the floor.
But he has made some bad decisions and I believe he cost us Game 1 also. I could live with Rondo taking that last shot and missing, but passing the ball to PP (and I know PP was asking for it) was a bad decision IMO. Also, there was enough time left on the clock to move the ball and find the open shooter.
I don’t know, maybe I am being too critical but this was a tough loss to take.
yea. PP is weird. 6 TO!! I don’t know if he’s just too careful for any injuries that he doesn’t want to be aggressive as he can be or he’s aging past and his legs wont keep up. Davis plays his position much better and Baby is consistent. and Perks give him a credit on the first half, when no one other than rondo and Davis can make a basket, perks just simply does a hook shot(Noah is easy for Perks). and those blocks and rebounds. he’s improving as well! just dont mention PF.
Hey it took us 7 to get through the first round last year
with a far superior team. It was a very entertaining game to watch. If Pierce could find another gear it would be really helpful. No matter what the announcers say I just can’t imagine Hinrich being able to guard Pierce as effectively as he is.
The only time a find myself yelling at the TV is when Pierce decides to wave of Rondo and dribble it up the court himself. I would like to see the statistical outcome of that decision over the course of the season. I think we would be better off if we sent two of our own players to trap him and make him give it up before half court.
Hinrich was all-defensive
2nd team a few years back, and that’s not a popularity award. No one can shut down a great scorer, but a defender like Hinrich can definitely make things tougher. That said, Pierce has been looking slow or tired. He barely gets any lift on his shot, and it’s inexcusable that he gets blocked on the perimeter by Rose in Game 2 or Salmons in game 4.
I think Pierce has been drinking
more that I have.

I did notice in the first half Pierce not getting calls. Not blaming the refs, but last nights Laker/Jazz game Kobe got call after call. Like the bank shot Kobe made, he wasn’t even touched and they call foul. Kobe complains to the refs constanly. It’s almost as if they feel they have to do something to satisfy him. Paul got hacked several times and no call. I just don’t understand…..(Celtic fan in Chicago)!!!!
ChainSmokingLikeDino - I hate to say I told you so...
But after that Game 1 OT loss, you questioned the inevitability of The Village Idiot’s Law of Diminishing Chances, which states that when a tired, injury-ridden team is playing a youthful, athletic team, the former’s chances of winning the game diminishes significantly the longer the game goes on.
Well that Law has been proven right again in this series. I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so! At least, this time around, PP mercifully ended the game by having his 3-point shit blocked. At leats they can go homw and rest instead of prolonging another inevitable (yes, inevitable) OT loss. I will say again that if we get into an OT situation with the Bulls in this series, the outcome is inevitably going to be a loss.

Not good ...
Of the three games that are close, the Bulls have taken 2 of 3.
Hmmmm … the Celtics are supposedly the more mentally tough team but they let the Bulls win 2 of the 3 close games. Not a good sign!
can we call the marbury/moore experiment officially over?
unless it’s garbage time, these 2 guys aren’t contributing much.
scal played more than marbury/moore combined. at least house was okay.
but the huge starter’s minutes and the bench’s non-contributions are a sore thumb.
I totally agree….I was one that was really pulling for Mikki because I recalled what he did in New Jersey. I had no idea he was that bad. He doesn’t help our play at all. As soon as he steps on the floor he gets a foul and they’re always ticky tack fouls. As for Step, I thought he would be a good pick up for a back up point like Sam was last year but I guess not. I can honestly say I’m very disapointed. I guess my hopes were just too high because I’ve seen what these two are capable of. I know it’s not easy to play in the NBA, but at the end of the day they made it to the pros for a reason. It’s time to start showing why you’re here……..
does paul pierce have
anything left? he looks like he is out of gas. does this team have anything left?

Don't even know what to say about this one.
I can’t be too mad at any one person because no one really lost the game for us. PP came close, but R2 took that atrocious jump shot, and even Ray missed a FT today. Baby couldn’t score. Bench couldn’t do ANYTHING. Yet we were so close. I told myself a while ago that it didn’t matter, that we got homecourt back, that we’ll be ok in the end, but this one still hurt.
Bright side is the next two games should be at night at least.
I Blame Paul Pierce
The self proclaimed best player in the league. His attitude has deteriorated over the season. If he had half of Ray’s work ethic, this team would be unbeatable with or without KG.
Shop Smart! Shop S-Mart!
Yeah, he's terrible
All he did was make John Salmons miserable for most of the day with his defensive work and shoot better than his season and career percentages from the foul line during his 52 minutes on the court.
He missed a foul shot at a bad time, committed several awful turnovers and didn’t play his best defense at the end of the game.
But as far as the idea that this is about his attitude or his work ethic…come on.

He is sucking the life out of the Celtics, and it's okay to say so.
Well, unless anyone can give a better explanation, then I am one of those who think his work ethic sucks at this time. Maybe he’s hurt? But the excuses of him playing 82 games, playing 52 minutes, defensive work on Salmons, etc etc, are expected of him and much more. That’s what he gets paid the big bucks for. We’re 4 games into a 7 game series and he’s shown up for only one game, yet he still gets treated like he’s the league MVP. He’s living off of his past reputation if you ask me.

Yeah, good points.
Let’s bench him and start someone else even if we had to pry one from the D-league. And then Ray Allen missed half of his 3 pointers, sit him in game 5 too.

This is the playoffs...
If you don’t come prepared, you go home. Paul played on piss poor teams for nearly 10 years which should be plenty of motivation to find that extra gear to push yourself over the top. Where’s the fire he played with in last year’s playoffs? Still hanging out with last year’s trophy?
Rondo & Ray put in a lot of minutes like Pierce. They make mistakes, have bad games but neither looks like they are “going through the motions” like Paul does at times. Plus, no ones making tired excuses for them. Maybe that’s b/c RR’s much younger and Ray is in much better shape.
He’s an All-Star, Finals MVP and future HOFer. Unfortunately, he seems to be lacking that hunger for a second title…no Eye of the Tiger.
I hope he does correct his mistakes and proves me wrong. Show me the PP of last year. Not the one that fortunately shows up in 1 out of every 3 games.

Pierce is a warrior
There is no question that Pierce was a half step slow (which was still sometimes enough). He missed a free throw again that puts the game away. He half asses the D on Gordon’s key 3. But he got huge baskets including the put back and one to keep us in reach (when he was dead tired). Yes, this loss is on him. I think that is true just as it was true of Ray in Game 1. But I want them both going for me next game.
Pierce"s game is more physical than most and he goes damn near 82 games every year. The guy is a warrior
Shocking!
Just shocking! I had no idea that the only player forced to play 82 games is Paul Pierce. Now for that he definately deserves a medal. Yeah right!

Three hours before tip-off (10 PM in Hongkong), NBATV showed the Celtic-Bulls game 2 of the 1986 1st round playoff. We won by 4 in 2OTs but not before MJ dropping in 63 pts. The Bulls always play the Cetlics tough in the playoffs, but the end result was the Celtics always won the series.

The Bulls had never won a playoff game against the Celtics before this year. They lost three series against the Celtics since about 1980 and the Bulls got swept in every one of those series.

As a Bulls fan, I wish I had the power to trade your whipping boy
Paul Pierce straight up for John Salmons. He played over 50 minutes being hounded by our best one-on-one defender, Kirk Hinrich for much of the time. Kirk may not be the fastest player in the league but his footwork and ability to stick closely to his man and not to be fooled by head fakes makes his opponent work much harder than he’s normally used to.
I’m grateful the Celtics didn’t just give the ball to Rondo every time and let him create. He has been a one man wrecking crew from the Bulls perspective so as a favor to Chicago we would greatly appreciate letting anyone other than him try to beat us.
The games have been incredibly close and therefore entertaining as well as nerve wracking. The officials leaned towards the Bulls in the first half but the 3rd quarter was loaded with phantom fouls against them, and Pierce was the primary benificiary 2 or 3 times.
Also I now know why Davis is called Big Baby. He sure earned the title today. After practically beheading Miller with a very hard chop to the head, Brad retaliated with a shove and he acted like he was shot by a 54 Magnum. So either he really is a big baby or deserves an award for the best acting job during an NBA playoff.
If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.
Elbert Hubbard
Scal came very close to being a key help in this game
But with Perk and then scal going out and no kg and leon we just are too thin up front. Scal keeps minnei off the floor though and that really helps. if Steph had played well, if Baby had shot just a little better, if PP had one less to, we win. we are ok and i hope kg is watching and realizing 10-14 minutes a game that he could play might make ALL the difference
This team is wearing out
We need the bench to go a little deeper/longer right away. Take the chance. Whatever happens this series, PP and the other starters are going to run out of gas at some point.

Pierce
Pierce is tired plain and simple. This is where not having a capable backup for him all year to cut down his minutes is catching up now. I wasn’t a proponent of bringing back Posey at that kind of money but I can admit that he was never adequately replaced in the rotation by Ainge/Rivers.
Our bench
Bulls 30 pts,,,,we had 8! Bench is a great weakness because our bench doesn’t really exist any more. Powe’s gone and Davis is a starter,,,Tony barely get’s in Stephan isn’t producing points like i thought he would.
Sums it up to me.
