Sweeping Away Memories
Anyone still think this is a "rivalry?" Celtics sweep the season series.
- 7 blocks for the Beast! (And one monster block in garbage time for the Baby)
- All 5 Celtics starters scored in double figures with Rondo, Pierce, and Davis leading the way.
- Nice to see Tony Allen back on the court.
In other news, the Magic are destroying the Cavs tonight. Not sure how I feel about that. If it means the Magic may steal the 2nd seed from us, that's not so good. On the other hand, coupling this Cavs loss with the loss to the Wizards might bode well for us. Is it too soon to start wondering if they are sleepwalking down the stretch?

Amen.
I would add that Mikki had a very tidy game by his standards: 4 for 5, 6 rebounds and only 3 fouls. More importantly, he looked like had a much better idea of where to be tonight and made some important plays.

58 and counting
rondo is the motor that runs this team and perk is the brake that stops the other team. it was that simple. and baby is growing up.
They almost lost the season series
A few bounces here and there, and the C’s would have lost the season series to the Hawks. First they almost lost the playoff series to the Hawks, and now they almost lost the season series, how can the C’s overcome these pesky Hawks? ; )
Sarcasm right? we swept the season series and handled the hawks pretty easily without KG the last 2 games..I dont see how that constitutes as almost losing the season series

Mikki and Steph seem to be getting it
They both seem to be better on defense, though Mikki had a few matador moments tonight. He is doing better on his rebounding, Steph seems to really be running the offense (not Rondo, but he is also not playing with starters. Very curious and hopeful to see if they have more upside. If the money works I could see Mikki here next year. The same could be said of Steph, but it is less likely that the money works.
Next year
As any Championship team happiness only lasts as long as the team keeps winning titles. Once fans and the organization get a taste of a title it is hard to accept anything less. So, if the Celtics do not win this year, do you guys really think that Steph will not bolt to another team? The reason why R. Allen and KG came to the Celtics was because they were able to check their egos at the door. Both of them are able to put their pride aside and become secondary to Paul Pierce. Can Steph do that? He might not be a jerk but when is he going to have that A. I. Diva attitude going to come out?

Who cares what Steph does?
I’m glad they signed him, but he is hardly essential to the future of this team.
I agree
I seriously think that Celtic fans are putting too much weight on wether or not he comes back. The essence of this team is Doc Rivers and Tom’s defensive scheme. As far as the players as long as KG anchors the defense and Paul Pierce is healthy the Celtics will be contenders. But, it seems that most of us Celtic fans are thinking of the future because of Pierce, KG and Allen’s age.

Since when do they even want him to come back? they got him for the rest of this season, with no long term plans of keeping him whatsoever…I dont think it matters, and I dont want him back on this team one way or another, I want him to help us win now and then leave

Oh and what celtics fans are putting to much weight on whether he comes back? they never got him a long term picture, and you are the first person ive seen bring it up

Steph
He seems to have checked his ego at the door, is playing hard, especially on defense. And he’s a much better passer than I expected. The problem may be that he’s become too unselfish. He needs to shoot more. I don’t know what next year will bring with Steph, but amazing things can happen if you get into the right situation. And what better situation for Marbury than this Celtic team. Also, does anyone have first hand knowledge of what went on with Marbury in NY? Maybe he is what they say, but maybe he isn’t. I sure have no complaints so far and I didn’t want him here based on what I had read.

"Criminally Negligent Officiating"--Tommy Heinsohn
How firsthand are you talking about?
I wasn’t in the locker room or the front office or anything like that, but I can tell you from watching the games and following in the local media that he a) played some really bad basketball, b) clashed with his coaches, c) said a lot of reaily silly/uninformed/foolish things, d) was involved in a rather embarrassing sexual harassment scandal, and e) quit on his team.
I’ve been happier than I expected so far – and as I’ve said all along, I’ll root for him as long as he wears green. But that doesn’t change what happened previously.

UBUNTU
You guys have some keen minds and I’ve enjoyed your contributions immensely this year, so I take a chance and throw this out there to see what you think of it…
EVERYTHING I have seen in print about marbury’s career path and increasingly wrong-headed attitude has been negative, and often slanderous, but hey, it’s sports-writing and politicians have it even worse. So when we sign the guy, I’m thinking, ONO, here we go – but I ALWAYS OPT FOR HOPE in my own life, and try to communicate that to others when possible. So I visualized Steph being on best behavior and able to play ball and help. So far so good over the last 7 weeks, he’s coming along, not enough weirdness to worry about, and lots of praise from peers and observers that his attitude is fine and he’s cooperative and enjoying all this.
I wonder how much it matters to a guy like marbury that the team he’s on has a concept like UBUNTU. If it goes over his head or he’s just not into joing in, of course, C-YA!!
But if he embraces it, I like the future scenario with him as a celtic…
not sure i follow the magic/cavs comment
if the magic get the 2nd seed, the celts will face them on the road. it’s great the cavs have lost 2 games and everything, but i would be happier to see the magic fall to the 3rd seed. it was a bittersweet but not surprising result. definitely good for the magic. maybe not for the celtics.
the cavs are sleepwalking down the stretch (well, after 13 wins in a row…). but they can afford it (except for possibly losing home court vs. the lakers). no one’s catching them in the east since they have 4 more home games.
Well, Orlando is still behind the Celtics and the Celtics do hold the tie breaker I believe. Cavs keep playing this way and anything is possible. Cavs lose these last 2 games puts some doubt and stranger things have happened in sports.
total meltdown would be necessary
for the cavs to blow the top seed to the celtics, the cavs would have to end up losing 6 of their last 8 games (6 games to go, with 4 at home) after winning 13 in a row, and the celtics would have to win their last 9 in a row (5 more on top of what they’ve done already, including winning in cleveland).
that would be in the top 10 of strange. cavs are 36-1 at home and have 4 more home games. i just don’t see them blowing it that bad. we should know a lot more after their next 2 home games.
i think i would have have been happier if the cavs had pulled the road upset and beat the magic, as much as it’s fun to watch the cavs get clobbered. if the cavs fall apart in the playoffs, the celtics won’t have to worry about them. but the celtics will likely have to worry about the magic, and it will matter whether they have home court against them.
the magic is the only team that should be 100% pleased about tonight’s results.
only wistful thinking
But to be fair the Cs won 19 in a row and then went 2-7, so stranger things have, in fact, happened.
That said I don’t think it’s going to happen.
check that
after crushing the spurs, the cavs now have to lose 4 of their last 5 (with 3 at home) and the celtics have to win out (including winning in cleveland). it’s just not happening.
Do The C's Hold The Tie Breaker?
I think they are 2-2. What is the next thingy for the tie-breaker?
"I don't come to play, I come to WIN"--Larry Bird
"Criminally Negligent Officiating"--Tommy Heinsohn
still to be determined
celts are up 2-1 with one game to play in cleveland. if the celtics lose that game, the cavs magic number would be 1. if the celts win that game, the tiebreaker would go to best conference record. celts currently lead that by 1 game and would lead by more if the cavs go into the freefall they would have to for this to matter.
so, yes, if the cavs go into freefall, i the celts beat the cavs in cleveland for the first time in a few years, and if the teams finish tied, then yes the celts win the tiebreaker. lot of ifs.
Cavs last 2 losses.
Yeah the Wizards have been awful on the year, but let’s not discount the fact that both Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood played and started that game, along with all stars Jamison and Butler. That’s an actual team, unlike the sorry wizards we’ve seen the rest of the year. So, in fairness to the cavs, they lost to a better wizards team than “the wizards” (if you know what I mean) and an excellent magic team. Think “sleepwalking” might be reading too much into it.
Greatest Quote Of All Time
Hey Jeff, I just found this quote from a random blog. I just posted it on RedsArmy, but I figured you might like to see it too:
“Whenever Jordan Farmar sees Kevin Garnett coaching up Rajon Rondo he probably feels like the kid with the alcoholic dad who looks out the window and sees the kid next door playing catch with his dad in the front yard.”
Here’s the link:
http://www.collegefanz.com/blogs/albertsamaha/2009/04/03/alberts-axioms
That quote doesnt even make sense
1. KG isnt even around right now
2. Jordan farmar plays with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and has a great mentor in DFish, I dont think hes jealous of rondo playing with KG whatsoever, hes an LA guy happy to be playing for the lakers
3. since when does KG coach up rondo? thats usually doc, ray, sam cassel when he was here, etc

Kobe does have that nasty edge... if he's the Dad it makes sense...
…but it’s still not that funny ;)
Big Baby
I was looking at highlights and him standing next to Moore. I mean I know this is kind of irrelevant at this point but he’s gotta be right between 6’7" and 6’8" but no taller. How off am I? I think he is better then Powe simply because of his size, mobility and that 15ft jump shot which will only get better.
2nd quote of the night...
Gorman mentioned that Flip Murray hadn’t fouled out in some 400+ games, approaching an NBA record, and Heinsohn’s response was “I can see why” as Murray had stood and watched someone blow right by him, which caused Gorman to laugh out loud
