Bad News/Good News
First the bad news (via the Celtics twitter account)
Doc: KG will not play at all this week, including Sunday's tilt in Cleveland, but he will travel with the team.
Then the good news.
Healing up: Doc says that he hopes to practice his entire team next week on the road, including Powe and possibly Scalabrine.
I can't tell you how good it would be to see Powe and Scal back on the court. And if we can get the whole entire team healthy by the playoffs? Watch out league.
Update: ...and now back to more bad news. Via Scott Souza:
Rajon Rondo also left the court early after apparently tweaking his ankle.
“He sprained his ankle,” Rivers said. “It wasn’t anything bad, I don’t think. So he’ll be fine.”

entire team?
I know by definition that would include KG but I’m not optimistic if he’s out again this week.
It's predictable...
Why would they bring him back? Jeff just spent an entire post talking about how little these remaining games matter in the grand scheme of things. So why would Doc risk bringing him back? We also know that we do not need a fully rhythmic and 100% KG to beat Detroit or Chicago. So with that said, the course of action being taken with KG is predictable and smart.

Just heard on weei, something about rondo limping off the court in practice with yet another ankle injury

thank you
I don’t care what anyone says. The longer KG stays out the better he comes back and the better he plays throughout the playoffs.
We dont know that..that actually seems unlikely he’ll play better when he isnt even in game shape
Sounds like best case scenario to me

I'm not bothered by KG's absence
because the more he rests the better he will be in the playoffs but why not announce that he will be out till the playoffs instead of delaying his return days after days?
As for Rondo I hope his injury isn’t severe, his ankles really suffered throughout the year…
But if Doc’s hopes come true it’ll be really nice to have the entire team healthy, including Scal!
KG is
more than likely done for the year, folks.

Wow, I was unsure if Leon was actually coming back!
More than anything just want to see this team defend their title “Full Boat”. If they lose so be it. I don’t want to look back years from now and have regrets like I do form 1987. Injuries really suck.
If the Cowboys could only play like a team with passion and unity like my beloved
Boston Celtics, I would be happy.

you would think so
I mean, i’m sure he tapes them up well and everything, but who knows? The Chief was always tweaking his ankles though and look how well he held up through his career
people have asked him this question, and he claims on his blog that he can’t play in them. So I guess my real question would be isn’t there anything ELSE he/someone can do about that.
Stubbornness
Rondo is just stubborn. It is ridiculous how many times his shoe has fallen off. Of course he can play in them. He just doesn’t like it.
Urban myth
High tops do nothing more than lows to prevent ankle sprains. This was the conventional thinking for years, but the extra couple of inches of leather in fact, do nothing to stop rolls from happening. In fact, all modern shoes are nothing more than 3/4, not truly high like in the old days. Not requiring the muscles to strengthen by using them during cutting etc., actually can cause them to hypertrophy, increasing the chance of rolling an ankle, far more than not wearing high tops.
I don't get it.
Was it not last week that Doc came out and said that they’re ‘shutting KG down’. Was that just a rephrasing of waiting another week now? I understood KG to be ‘shut down’ until right before the playoffs and that’s where my mind will stay. Stop with these regurgitated assessments, media.
On a good note, glad to hear that the team will finally assemble soon.
some comments from Doc:
Meanwhile, Rivers said Kevin Garnett was making improvement as he rehabs his sprained right knee.
“I’m just really happy with what we see,” Rivers said. “A week ago there was more concern. This week, less concern. He looks great, he’s moving great. You can just tell the difference.”
Rivers said he expected Garnett to accompany the team during the final road trip of the regular season to Cleveland and Philadelphia. He ruled out Garnett playing against the Cavaliers on Sunday, but said he could play April 14 against the 76ers.
“He won’t play this week, Wednesday, Friday or Sunday. But he’s going to go on the road with us and start practicing,” Rivers said.
Rivers also said that Leon Powe (right knee) and Brian Scalabrine (post-concussion syndrome) could both return to practice before the end of the regular season on April 15 against Washington.
“Actually, our hope is to start practicing our entire team on this little road trip, which would be really nice since I haven’t seen them in a while, and I think it’s possible,” Rivers said.
this is where the awesome team discipilne and desire comes into play. this is ultimate do or die time for us. Last year we had it easier, a championship win this year in the finals would be huge after all the turmoil the C’s have gone through…..let alone the fans….especially if you in live in SoCal like i do. If the C’s don’t make it I wish anybody else the title EXCEPT for the Fakers!!

manu ginobili out for the season
i know it doesn’t have much to do with the celtics, but it seems as if the injury bug has hit the contenders pretty hard this year with nelson out, ginobili out, and the celts and other teams dealing with many injuries. lakers have come out pretty easy in that regard…so far.
We all should have listened to Glen Taylor last seaon.
It is customary for KG to tank it at the end of the year.
;-)
hrrrmmm
just like KG tanked at the end of LAST year right?

It was a failed attempt at sarcasm, which is not communicated easily over the interweb.
I am a huge Celtics and KG fan.
Nothing new
Will someone please teach Rondo how to play basketball WITHOUT twisting an ankle!
Next we`ll hear about KG : He will sit out the first round of the playoffs. Might be available for round 2.
of COURSE Rondo left practice with an injury
what they didn’t report was that Paul Pierce spontaneously combusted, and Ray Allen has been infected with flesh eating bacteria
Haven't any of you guys sprained an ankle before?
Rondo’s probably playing on a weakened ankle through the playoffs. It means he’s vulnerable to tweaks or worse until he probably gets it back to full strength over the summer. He might be okay by now if he’d rested it, but he’s played through it and not surprisingly has thus suffered setbacks.
Well Jeff
sarcasm aside, I actually am a doctor. Not a medical doctor. However, I do know a thing or two about bone spurs. I am assuming that what was posted on this site is correct. That is, KG has a spur causing the muscle strain. Spurs float inside an area and can move away from putting pressure on the tendon and can just as easily float back to cause more irritation. My wife has had to live with this for twenty years. She’s not a professional athlete though that pushes his body to the limit on a daily basis as KG does. The only way that I know how to treat these things is rest, cortisone shots, or surgery. Larry Bird finally had surgery on both feet to remove spurs and that shelved him for along time. So, my point about KG is that even if he feels better on one day, the spur (s) could move and cause the same pain the next day. It’s very tricky and playing NBA level basketball won’t help KG overcome a spur. Again, this is all predicated on the information provided on this site. If it isn’t a spur, I retract my prediction. If it is, I don’t.
