Manu Out For The Year
Well, the injury bug is obviously not isolated to the Celtics after all. In fact, as long as reports about KG's return are to believed, then we have it better than other teams. The Magic lost All Star Nelson for the year, the Lakers are just now working Bynum back in, and now the Spurs will have to get along without Manu Ginobili.
Manu Ginobili is out for the rest of the season and the playoffs.
The Spurs guard underwent scans on Monday that showed his troubled right ankle has gotten worse. Ginobili missed 19 games after the All-Star break before coming back late last month.

Good thing he played in the Olympics instead of resting like the Spurs wanted.

They wanted him to rest because of the ankle injury that limited him in the playoffs against the Lakers
Which seems to be the same ankle injury that has been there all season.

manu played 44 games this season
starting on november 24. i agree that the manu and the spurs disagree on whether he should play in the olympics, but that doesn’t seem to have stopped them from playing him for more than half a season before deciding he was “really” done. it also didn’t stop him from scoring 30+ three times in the last few weeks.
perhaps the spurs should have made sure he was “right” before bringing him back or perhaps manu injured himself in a new way (or reinjured himself).
blaming the olympics 6 months later and 44 games played later. not sure about that.

The Spurs weren't going to challenge the Lakers anyway.
Pop knows it too. He just about says it every time he asked about the Lakers.

too bad-thought the spurs had the best chance of beating the fakers. injuries are killing us and the spurs just got conked.

Tough news for the Spurs. I was hoping the return of a healthy Manu would give them a boost. Their defense has been pretty shaky most of the year but they really need to rely on that now to make a solid playoff run. I wish them the best of luck in the postseason. I’ll still be holding out hope for my Celtics/Spurs finals.

Tough luck for the Spurs. Their slim chance of going to the Finals just went right out of the window and down the drain. Now let see who’s next in line to take on the Lakers in the West….. I don’t see anyone; there is no line.
The Cs are destined to face the Lakers again this year.
