Around SBN: Following UFC 146 Loss, Jason 'Mayhem' Miller 'Done' in UFC

2nd Effort

The Nets shot the lights out in the first quarter.  Most of the Celtics (Rondo excepted) were playing like a team that just had 5 days off (rusty).  So the home team found itself down 10 points after the first.  However, the 2nd unit turned things around in the 2nd quarter and entered the half up 7.

The Nets made it interesting, but the Celtics held them off.

If Pierce has had a worse game this year, I don’t remember it. One fears that all of those minutes are catching up to him. Ray Allen was no ball of fire either.

Nice cameo for Tony Allen, who was effective. And of course Rondo was the star (and almost the goat— how can you blow a 4 on 1 fast break in a close game?)

by Brickowski on Apr 8, 2009 10:01 PM EDT reply actions

Rondo improving ...

Rondo has been playing better and better since Marbury joined the team. Could it be the positive result of competitions and practising with a true (and once very good) point guard?

by This is NOT NOT our year on Apr 8, 2009 10:02 PM EDT reply actions

Hes improved since marbury got here? not that ive noticed…hes been the same

by TheAncientRivalry on Apr 8, 2009 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m not just regurgitating what the C’s broadcast team was saying tonight when I say that the Marbury-House combo platter is lethal!! the energy, hustle and octane they bring in off the bench completely changed the game tonight.

if Tony Allen sticks with the plan and defers ballhandling duties to Steph, instead of turning the ball over himself, then he can be just as potent a weapon off that pine.

suddenly the C’s bench is coming together and positively impacting games. ’tis a miracle!!

by MetroGlobe on Apr 8, 2009 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

Not a miracle... hard work paying off...

The C’s are one of the few teams in the NBA that can legitimately claim to have a “brain trust” type core of ex-players and knowledgeable staff besides the coaches to help make plans and schemes for how they play, as well as how they use individual players, i.e., roles. I think much of the on-court improvement we see in the course of a season is a result of behind the scenes conversations which lead to very specific and focused programs of work and practice for each player, and the team as a whole.

we were lucky to get this win. we got really sloppy at the end

by Red2 on Apr 8, 2009 10:26 PM EDT reply actions

i agree - very sloppy

i though the celts would turn it on after a slow start (after the 4 days of rest). if the nets had any clue about what to do on that last possession, this would have been a terrible night.

as it was, very lucky. it was the nets at home. after barely beating charlotte at home. close wins are better than close losses, but i’m not feeling any better yet.

miami needs the game on friday and wade should play, so it will be a good test.

yes we were lucky to win. yes rondo, but how about perk-very nice. and the 2nd team really gelled. eddie and marb and mikki and welcome back tony. pp was playing pool, not basketball.

It's over!

Have you heard? Bynum is coming back to the Lakers tomorrow? In the meantime KG is beginning to breakdown. Last year was his one and only chance to win a title and he should ride off into the sunset. Many Celtic fans are talking with this glass half full mentality but that does not make a difference. The Celtics are a team of the past, at least this current line up is. Many of the young players might be around for a while but the big three cannot win this year because KG is not 100%. Last year the Celtics got taken to seven games every series and that was with home court advantage. This year, if the Celtics are lucky they might get home court advantage in the 2nd round of the playoffs. I can only imagine what Howard will do to KG. Every Celtic fan is so proud of the defensive scheme that the Celtics have. But, the heart and anchor of that is KG and although he will try and play he is not going to be the same. Every Celtic fan knows that the reason the Celtics won last year was because they had home court advantage and the best defense. You already lost one of those things and the only thing left is to hope that the defense holds up with a gimpy KG. Face it! It’s over! It is also obvious how much hope Doc Rivers is trying to inject into Boston fans by not necessarily committing when KG will be back. It is like seeing a politician being asked about a controversial issue. Some of you may even hold on to his comments as if to think that everything is ok with KG. It isn’t! Also, I don’t buy that “he’s just resting him” mentality. That is just false hope. This year either the Cavs or Orlando will represent the East but it won’t be the Celtics. Just get used to more decades of irrelevance. GO LAKERS!

Bench

Our Bench is a way better than LAs and will only get better with the return of KG, Powe and Scal!

by liamail on Apr 8, 2009 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Really

Which player on your bench is better than Lamar? Powe is the best player coming off the bench. But LO is better. KG’s return will not make the bench better as much as Bynums return because that will send Lamar to the bench and there is no one on your bench that can guard him. Look! The Celtics and Lakers are good and they both have decent benches. But, until I see how effective KG is when he comes back then I cannot believe that the Celtics will win it all this year. Lets say they get all the way to the ECF. They will not beat the Cavs. The Lakers are a lock for the WCF but you cannot say the same about the Celtics. Even as a Celtic fan you must see that.

….that was last year. What about my comments about this year? Any recollection of what is happening now. There is even a post speaking about why KG should be MVP this year. It goes into detail about how important KG is to this team, especially defensively. So if he is the MVP how good are the Celtics with him not being 100%. You were lucky to get past the Hawks last year. What would happen if that challenge faced the Celtics this year?

because of my “Celtics for life” name. I recently try to join your blog but was banned. I have no reason why. I was just stating facts. It was the only way for me to get on this site. I am on here because I got tired of seeing Celtic fans posting on other team’s blogs and I had to do the same. I am not into getting involved with verbal attacks. I just want to talk basketball but when I signed up originally I was being called every four letter bad word that you could imagine and yet I was the one that was banned. I never retaliated. So my mentality is that if Celtic fans are all over the internet posting their comments then they should be willing to accept the same in return…

Yes they did

tell me something I don’t know. I have no problem showing up for the big games. I will die with purple and gold. But the one thing I do disagree is that Celtics should be proud of being champs until it gets taken away from them. But Celtic fans behave with the errogance as if winning has been consistent. I could see a Spurs or Lakers fan display that type of confidence but this is just one title in what? 20 years! hardly a case for being so over confident.

Okay now that we got that out of the way and you introduced yourself. Let’s talk basketball. Can the Celtics win with KG not being 100% considering what happened to them last year against the Hawks? And better than the Celtics, too, unless Garnett is 100%.

So I expect that it will be another frustrating NBA finals for Kobe and the gang.

by Celtics for life on Apr 9, 2009 12:55 AM EDT up reply actions

Lakers will win it this year

As you all can see everyone is passionate about the Celtics. Great! No one takes that away from any of you. You have braggin rights for now. I don’t care that Kobe is a jerk or any of those comments that any of you can make about him. You cannot take away his talent and ability. This game is not a popularity contest so who cares what people say about Kobe. Some of you may know this but Jordan slapped the hell out of Steve Kerr in practice. But, no one ever uses that to tarnish his image. Yet you have this guy in here CELTICZ4LIFE getting all puffed up in the chest talking about things that do not even matter and that is exactly the type of Celtic attitude that I am talking about. As far as why can a Laker fan go to his own site it is because ever since the Celtics won they have reacted as if their current roster is a dynasty. I have actually heard comparisons to Bird, Mchale and Parish. That one was a stretch. But either way, the Celtics are good now but they will not get past the second round if KG isn’t healthy. No matter what! GO LAKERS!

by Celtics for life on Apr 9, 2009 12:47 AM EDT reply actions

these things do matter..

Exactly

“Big Picture” That is exactly what I am talking about when it comes to KG’s injury. By the way, thank you for taking us all back to your trip back to memory lane. So what does being older have anything to do with calling someone names. You are who you are.

I would come to this site no matter what happens in the playoffs. Just think, right now the Celtics own the Lakers because of last year’s beat down. Yet I’m still here defending my team against all of you.

by Celtics for life on Apr 9, 2009 1:00 AM EDT reply actions

the lakers fan

is the king of obviousness. yeah, if kg isn’t right, we’re probably not winning the title. shocker. if kobe or lebron aren’t right, those teams are done as well. unbelievable! if kg is 70%, i think we at least get to the ECF, where i think cleveland (plus the refs trying to coronate king james) beat us in 7. if kg’s any better than that, who knows…we could still lose to cleveland, beat cleveland and lose to LA, or win it all. the top 3 teams are boston, LA, and cleveland…any one of those three could win the title. LA’s test is going to be physical teams in the west (utah, particularly), but i don’t see them not coming out of the west.

by guy incognito on Apr 9, 2009 1:03 AM EDT reply actions

Thank you

That is all I have been trying to say. But people in here act as if I said something wrong. It isn’t that they hate or disgree it is that they hate who I represent and team I am a fan of. Just look at how crazy everyone in here went the moment they found out I was a Laker fan. The thing is the it isn’t Kobe or Lebrong that is hurt it’s KG. I do believe that the league is in favor of Lebron and Kobe facing each other in the Finals. But the same can be said about the Celtics and Lakers last year. Which is the big reason why I think KG did not get suspended for game seven last year between the Celtics and the Hawks.

by Celtics for life on Apr 9, 2009 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions

jeez man...

What’s the point of coming on here to “defend the lakers”? No one was talking about the lakers until you brought them up. What exactly do you think you have to prove on this blog? Are you trying to convince Celtics fans to switch sides? To relinquish the season? To stop watching, analyzing, and talking about the Celtics?

And lastly, are you under the impression that what you posted above is some kind of revelation that no one on this Celtics-obsessed site has ever thought of before?

I just don’t get it.

by scurvmeister on Apr 9, 2009 1:18 AM EDT up reply actions

good questions

I don’t expect either one of those things. One of the main things is that I do not come on here expecting anything from any of you. As I said earlier, I obesess over my team as all of you do. But just to share my frustration I got so tired of seeing Celtic fans posting comments on all the Laker blogs that I visited everyday. I just got tired of it so I signed up to every Celtic blog out there to do the same. Believe me, I am nice compared to some of the Celtic fans out there invading Laker blogs. I am not on this site but several. Enough is enough! I am tired of Celtic fans going on Laker blogs talking about last year’s beat down. Could you imagine seeing that everyday while I am talking Lakers talk and someone comes out of nowhere making the most random comments. I might not be anyone from here but since there is no way to tell. But, I will say one thing, I refuse to act ignorant and make random comments and to show Celtic fans that they are not as good as some fans may think they are.

by Celtics for life on Apr 9, 2009 1:27 AM EDT up reply actions

i see

I guess that’s fair. Constant trash talk from any team would be very annoying. But I think you’ll find that this blog is very well moderated and shouting matches are quickly put down. Except maybe when it gets past the mods’ bedtime over here on the East coast. I think it’s highly unlikely that Celtics trolls (that sounds strange to say…) come from this site.

We do have some Lakers fans that drop by every once in a while. Basically, if you keep it civil, we’ll keep it civil. Though I can’t imagine ever being heavily involved in a rival’s blog. That would just be too…stressful.

The Lakers don’t defend well enough to win a title, it’s as simple as that. They have some good individual defenders (e.g Kobe, Jordan Farmar), but their team defense is lacking. And while Andrew Bynum gives them additional length, he’s the second coming of Al Jefferson on defense, and that’s just not good enough.

Cleveland is the best defensive team in the league right now, and they’ll be even better wehn Ben Wallace returns.

The real NBA championship will be the ECF between the Cavs and the Celtics, a series that Cleveland will win. Even if the Celtics play brilliantly, the refs will take the series away from them. The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost couldn’t beat the Cavs at home right now.

by Brickowski on Apr 9, 2009 1:15 AM EDT reply actions

Great post!

All good points. Farmar is the worst defender the Lakers have. You are right about their team defense not being as good and if they continue to let teams come back it will over for them. If the Celtics get to the ECF then it is a toss up as far as I am concerned. But I cannot agree that the title will go the East. I think Bynum will be huge but all that doesn’t matter. I will see when he is introduced tommorow and the crowd goes nuts.

Man!

I watched that whole game…too hard to watch. That sure was a butt kicking that the Lakers got. Oh well this year will be different. By the way, I just heard that KG is traveling with the team to Cleveland but he wont dress. I wonder who’s going to win that game. Well, this year the Lakers have owned the Celtics and Cavs. They just have to prove it in the playoffs. As I said earlier, the braggin rights belong to the Celtics but it does not look good right now. Le’t s hope that for the sake of competition KG is healthy because I want the Lakers to face them in the Finals. Either way, Bynum will be back and unlike most of you I will sleepy easy knowing our Center is coming back and I look forward to the crowd’s standing ovation when he comes in. As for your Center, we will see if all of you talk all this smack come June hell it might not even go that far for all of you. But, I know that the true Celtic fans will wear their green with pride as I wore my Purple and Gold after game 6 last year. Believe me, all of you can mention game 6 and last years finals but this year will be different. We are not only set up for now but for the future. KG has already started showing signs of wear and tear it is just time before the other two start. What will happen then? Will all of you jump ship like Bill Simmons already did. Him and his fake reverse curses. It’s over Celtics. Face it! I understand how agonizing it must be to not know what will happen with KG but maybe if all of you were better winners meaning that you didn’t become so errogant and act as if the Celtics have been consistent winners which they haven’t. Just practice some humility and accept that you have a great team now but their age is showing. Just think of your starting five without KG in the middle. LAKERS LOVE FOR LIFE! I don’t see any Celtic player get as much respect around the league as the Lakers do. There is a reason why you hear “Beat LA” in every arena. We are and have been winning consistently. You hear MVP chants everywhere in the league for Kobe not for KG or Pierce. You see purple and gold in every arena. That happens for a reason. Why are not just yesterdays team but we are and always will be the past, present and future.

Come on! How can you be so sure and so overjoyed? Your Center has not played a single second of NBA ball since Kobe knocked him down. We Celtics fans were as excited as you are now when we heard KG was coming back a couple weeks ago. Look what happened. God forbide the same will happen in “your Center”. If I were you, I will sleep with one eye open.

Kobe can have the MVP trophy and whatever individual glory he can dream of, but we will keep the title this year.

Celtics for life

Here is a reality check for both teams. Neither is in a great cap situation to role for the next three years. Odom expires this off season and Gasol I believe comes up soon. Kobe has got years on his tires like Paul, Ray and KG. Will the Lakers win it this year? Perhaps, are they a lock for the WCF? No but close. Bynum is good but Perk plays him very tough. Odom makes the LA bench much stronger but that’s not saying a whole lot. Then again I don’t like our bench that much either. Celtics this year prob not. However, even if the Lakers win, because of Bryant and O Neil’s antics the Lakers will never be as dominant as they could have been. Bynum will never be a Shaq! Period! I agree with him though the Cavs will be tough and quite frankly I’m not sure the Lakers can beat Cleveland either. I have the utmost respect for Magic, Kareem and Kobe however the rest of the organization I despise much like I did when Gasden and ML Carr were a part of ours. Don’t hate on this blogger! Just simply look at LA in general. South Cenntral, only 2 good universities, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and really only one team to cheer for! Oh, I believe the state of California, although boasting the 7th largest economy in the world can’t handle any of it’s fiscal responsibilities. Then again neither can MA. At least our faces won’t begin to melt when the temp rises outside. So I kinda feel for the guy,,,or girl…whichever.

Isn't there a Lakers blog to post for all Fakers fans?

I don’t think it’s a very clever thing to do to post in a Celtics site and state that your team is so good and blah, blah… Just wait til we beat you in the finals, until then relax and try not to lose in the first round with Dallas or someone else…

It must be excruciating

for a Laker fan to type the word “Celtics” and add “for life” just to be able to post on some messageboard/blog.

I don’t believe I could ever lower myself to use “Lakers” in any fashion just to be able to thumb my virtual nose at a group of folks.

Then again, maybe my intelligence level is greater than the average Laker fan.

Celtics for life

is banned, mostly because his name is deceiving

I haven’t had time to read through all this mess but as usual if Laker fans want to come here and have an honest discussion, they are more than welcome. If any opposing fans want to come here just to talk trash, sorry, this isn’t the place for you.

by the way

he’s the same guy that logged in as “This is not your year” in the past – who was banned for trolling

if he comes back, we’ll know

suspected that was the same guy

didn’t see the point of him coming to this site. wouldn’t matter how many Laker trolls showed up here, I’d never be compelled to go to a site dedicated to the Lakers.

Oh ...

I intentionally designed my screen name after seeing his. And now he can’t come back. Peace of mind.

I don't even see the argument for Lakers fans wanting to come to this site

It’s never a healthy discussion. Each of them come here and complain about ‘celtics bias’ and how we ’don’t see things with an open mind’. I hate to break it to fans of opposing teams, but this is a CELTICS message board. If you want neutral discussion (albeit an uneducated one) go to espn.com.

I swear, even if some Lakers fans propose that they’re coming here to talk basketball, I still don’t believe it. They’re coming here to patronize and mock us with their blanket and condescending statements, as if we’re the idiots for siding with our home team. When talking to the Lakers fans, if you slip up once and seem as if you’re siding with the Celtics, you’re a homer.

I don’t go into Stop & Shop demanding the prices be similar to other grocery stores, just as I don’t go to Lakers blogs and demand they talk about other teams. Again, yes, this is a basketball blog, but it’s a Celtics basketball blog. Notice Celtics comes before the basketball.

I don’t want to talk baseball with Yankee fans on their message board. Why? Because although they may know their sport, their opinion is going to be that of a Yankee FAN. We don’t become fans of a team because we’re neutral. We become fans becase we pick a side and exude loyalty. I believe we’d be doing a disservice to our club if we didn’t back it wholeheartedly (not blindly, wholeheartedly).

As far as that "Celtics for Life" guy....

Apparently no one caught it, but he said KG wasn’t suspended for Game 7 against the Hawks because the league wanted C’s/Lakers in the Finals. If I was a moderator here, I would have pulled the plug on him, right there. That’s a deliberate shot on the Celtics, and something based on perception (league trying to “fix”), not fact, and not something a fan of another team should be coming to this blog to say.
I mean, how can you say something like that HERE and claim you’re not on an agenda?

So on that note, I have to agree with the banning, especially if it’s clear he has a history of doing this here.

That's flatly unfair to the couple of insightful Lakers fans who post on site here.

I came here to see if there was some good R2 love today...

But apparently all we have are trolls.

Magnificent game, Rajon.

Odom doesn't play with heart

Honestly, this fellow is an amazing player. In fact, he could be a beast off the bench, if he gave it his all. Unfortunately, for Laker’s fans, he’s a bench captain who’s handed in his resignation, upon the start of any important game. Now in contrast, for the Celts, we have Powe & Eddie, giving it their all and they’re not doing it simply for a paycheck. So I don’t fear LA’s bench unless LO gets his mojo back.
