"Those guys were jumping up and down, waving their hands at us, saying bye, but it's not over yet; it's just 2-2," Lewis added. "We could have done the same thing when we won on their court, but we're more professional than that. They still have to win ballgames. The series ain't over yet."

Question

If the Cavs did this, would you guys consider it poor sportsmanship? Guys jumping around, KG grabbing his junk and yelling at the Orlando bench…That being said, congrats on a hard fought game. I get a feeling it’s going to be another long series…

after the game

I think celebration is better done after the game instead of playing air guitar during a blowout

on the other hand, it is hard to feel holier than thou when our guys talk trash and celebrate with the best of them, so I call it a wash

I don’t have a problem with any of it…I like the emotion. I think it’s a been established that all these teams are going to celebrate and have a good time, so can we please get to the point where nobody feels it necessary to complain when they are on the losing end of it? During games or after games, celebrating is celebrating and once you’ve done it be prepared to have it done to you.

by ClevEv on May 11, 2009 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions

It depends when that emotion is displayed

I have no problem with emotion either. But there’s a BIG difference between showing your emotions in the moment (like after a game-winning shot, or a walk-off homer, or game-winning touchdown) and mugging for the camera in a 20 point blow out. One is pure emotion; an unscripted, genuine outpouring of feeling because of the joy of the moment, and the other is bush league, high school clowning NOT based on the moment or emotion or any genuine feeling; instead based on showing up the other team. Unfortunately, the latter is what the Cavs often display.

Karma is coming for the Cavs.

by SalmonAndMashedPotatoes on May 11, 2009 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Right…..and KG knows nothing about mugging for the camera? Or was him yelling in the ear of a Bulls player or dropping F-bombs on TV based on his “Warrior Spirit.” It’s funny that the Cavs have been doing this all year and we have NEVER heard about players feeling shown-up before. Are the C’s over-sensitive whiners? Maybe. I think it’s because for the most part you guys know it’s over for your team so you are finding any shred of possible motivation and latching on to it.

by ClevEv on May 11, 2009 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions

do you have a reason...

for being here other than to stir up trouble?

so far all you’ve done is call C’s fans whiny – doesn’t add to the conversation in any way whatsoever (Cavs fans opinions are welcome if they are done with class)

leave the name calling for another site, it isn’t welcome here

Sorry if that offended………..I’ll cut out the opinion part and ask this way, why is it that the Celtics have seemingly been over critical of teams that have done nothing more than the same things that the Celtics have been doing themselves? Why is it that the Cavs have never been accused of showing up another team all year until the Celtics were in the building and the Cavs did nothing did more than they have been doing all year.

I like the blog and read the posts but only post when I see something that blows my mind like this topic or the ones where people are saying the NBA is fixing games to the detriment of the Celtics.

by ClevEv on May 11, 2009 2:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I think you'll find

that no fans like it when their team loses and sees the opponent celebrating – some fans handle it better than others – I haven’t done a poll around the league, but I’m pretty sure you’ll find some fans from every team overreacting to every team that celebrates

maybe we (Boston fans) are jerks sometimes, but I’m tired of being repeatedly painted with that brush when I don’t deserve it

by Jeff Clark on May 11, 2009 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Nobody likes to lose, but there are fan bases that handle it a lot better than others. Maybe being a Cleveland fan, we’re a little more experienced than most (sorry if I offended any Cleveland fans) at dealing with it. When MJ sank “The Shot” over Ehlo and was going crazy, nobody blamed him for it. Cleveland fans didn’t blame the refs and say that the NBA was keeping them out of the playoffs. We tipped our hats and admitted that he got the best of us that day. We didn’t like it, but we accepted it. That is what sets Boston apart from a lot of other franchises, in my opinion.

fair enough

we are spoiled, for lack of a better word

I suppose there are far worse things to be called

IN THE MOMENT

KG is the supreme example of a player showing his emotions in the moment. Those sideline outbursts from KG CAME IN THE MOMENT. He wasn’t dropping f-bombs in our 20 point blowouts of Chicago or Orlando, he was doing it when the game was in doubt and we had made a big play.

Again, I love emotional outburst which are born in the moment. Other shows of emotion not of the moment are contrived and designed to garner unwarranted attention. That’s why when the Cavs fall all over themselves just because Mo Williams won a jump ball in a 20 point game fans start wondering why the Cavs are taking so much attention away from the game and putting it on themselves like attention-starved high school dimwits.

Word

Like last night when the Cavs were up by 6 points and Dwest had a nice dunk. They all started celebrating like the game was over, jumping all over each other on the bench. it was just stupid. yeah, he had a nice dunk but it’s only a 6 point game and there’s 3 mins left. IF the C’s get by the magic I know they will ‘steal’ one of the first 2 games in clevelend because of this lack of focus by the Cavs and the fact that they haven’t played in a single close game all playoffs. They don’t know what they’re in for.

The Orlando bench was jeering the Celtics bench throughout the game as well. The Celtics just got the las laugh. No need for tears Lewis.

Has Lewis Learned The Meaning Of

EMOTION!!!!! The Celtics are Pros. They are still the Champs. They are also human and to do what they have since losing KG they have the right to show their emotions rather than to falsely bury them. Emotion is part of heart and that is all the C’s are playing on right now.

Rashard should look to his coach for how to act...

Of course there’s emotion involved, it’s required in competition. Stan van Gundy is emotional, he’s not pretending or holding back, he’s as openly emotional as the players, but he is ‘professional’ and after the game he wasn’t thinking about the celtics display of emotion, he was thinking about his coaching. He said as much to the media. Rashard could learn something about where your head should be at in this game. professional means performance while being emotional.

by jyrecelts on May 11, 2009 11:34 AM EDT reply actions

whatever

rashard is an idiot for saying this. now, had we been celebrating during the game, like the cavs have done sometimes, it would look bad on us. but there is no team that wouldn’t celebrate a buzzer-beater that helped even-up a 2nd round playoff series. the difference between 2-2 and 3-1 is huge, so yeah, we’re going to go a little nuts. orlando would have done the same had they won like this in boston in game 1 (instead of killing us, and then barely hanging on), and it would have been fine.

by guy incognito on May 11, 2009 11:36 AM EDT reply actions

Just because

.. they celebrate a buzzer-beater doesn’t mean they think they’ve won the series. I get where he’s coming from, and I think Lewis is terrific and would love to have him, but this was not what he said it was.

by DRJ1 on May 11, 2009 11:40 AM EDT reply actions

Lewis is confused

The dude has all the talent in the world, but never grabs a game by the throat because he lacks a killer instinct.

It’s funny how he notes that they didn’t celebrate like mad after they beat the Celtics in Game 1. What he fails to appreciate is that they were ahead by 28 and had just held on after the Cs made a good comeback. There was nothing to celebrate after that—there was a feeling of relief not celebration. On the other hand, Baby hit the game winner with 0.0 seconds left on the clock, winning the game by 1, and there was a lot to celebrate. He knows better. He’s just a sore loser.

by SalmonAndMashedPotatoes on May 11, 2009 1:09 PM EDT reply actions

true that..

also it was the first time for bbd to ever win a huge playoff swing game with one shot-so its a diffrent reaction for a young player like glen.
the silver lining to the kg injury has been watching bbd and perk really grow as basketball players…
on the other hand the cavz little high school drama club they perform makes me sick.
the rest of the team is carrying queen james jock strap in their mouths…but like the queen said after they last beat the c’z in the regular season…“if they dont like it – then do somthing about it”
TRUE
game 5 -here we go..

SVG couldn't pick the players on his team more perfectly

Dwight Howard – WHINES after every call on anyone on his team EVEN though he gets EVERY single call possible.

Rashard Lewis – whines like a sore loser after losses.

Hedo Turkoglu – cries like a little girl after every time he gets touched.

Rafer Alston – throws hissy fits when he is losing and isn’t getting his way.

What a bunch of losers.

Lets say...

You go back to your own blog.

Your team is full of whiners, get over it.

None of your players flop either?

Look at the play where Perk barely touched Pietrus in the throat and flopped big time?

by illestmcsgt on May 11, 2009 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I think what Lewis was referring to was Davis yelling and cursing at the Magic fans after making his shot. No one has a problem with his celebration. Baby hit the biggest shot of his career, and the C’s won a tight game, but does that call for screaming and cursing at the fans, and taunting the Magic bench? Nothing wrong with basking in the joy of a big play, but a level of professionalism has to be maintained. With that said, good win.

by pjlawrence81 on May 11, 2009 3:56 PM EDT reply actions

It’s a buzzer beater in the playoffs, for crying out loud. Of course players will be jumping around and doing crazy things.

To the Victor goes the Spoils

The victor also gets to do a fair job of writing history as well.

Listen, if you win you get to celebrate. I don’t see why the loser is going to like be it the Celtics, Cavs, Magic or whomever. If you win, the complaints are just noise in the end. I didn’t like what the Cavs did against the Celtics, but what is there to say? Except for “We better win next time.” That’s about it to me.

Of course some people are more into trash-talking competitions than basketball competitions, and I guess that gives it a lot a play on the internet which is essentially a verbal/written arena..
