Did we miss Posey?
Well, yes. People will say that it wasn't worth it to lock up money for four years on Posey. My position is that we had a three year window to win banners given the age of the big three. We now have one more year left on that window. Since Tony Allen was essentially worthless during the playoffs, we had a huge hole on the bench when it came to a defensive presence not to mention someone who could hit a three. Do you think Hedo would have had the game he had yesterday if Posey was on him? Yes, injuries were the major factor for our untimely demise but Posey was a huge gap in the bench that was never addressed all year and it came back to bite us in the end.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Did I miss Posey?
Yes.
Did I miss Powe?
Definitely.
Did I miss KG?
Hell yea I did. :(
Absolutely
More importantly, we’re still missing him – in the off-season – and that’s something that hurts me even more.
The great thing about keeping Posey would be that you’d have your 6th man for the title window with the current core and basically 3 backup positions filled. He was someone with a skill-set that complements the starters and great chemistry with them. So, with Posey under contract, there wouldn’t be a lot of needs to be addressed every off-season: you’d only need to secure a competent guard and a solid big for every year; after that, you’d be good enough to add depth with min. salary veterans and young projects. Posey’s combination of versatility and quality and how he was a heaven-made fit for this team in terms of skill-set were always over-looked factors.
Now, without Posey, you basically have no bench once again and very limited assets to use. You need to sign someone good enough to be a bona-fide 6th man, then you probably need to go from there to fill out the rest of the bench.
No question about it. When you let Posey walk, you lost two players this season – Posey, and Pierce for the playoffs with the nutty notion that Tony Allen had the brainpower to ever be useful to a championship team.
Danny and Grousbeck don’t understand the concept of versatility, and their lack of understanding came at a huge cost.
Excellent points, Cordobes. You’re entirely correct.
and are you saying, keeping posey, letting house walk, and powe and KG get injured we get any further? um no, it just isnt the case
Not sure where he said that,
but what does seem apparent is that the spate of injuries we suffered will obscure in the eyes of many the mistakes that were made by the front office this offseason – as already demonstrated in certain portions of this comments section.

The best of the 2008-09 Boston Celtics is still yet to come. Believe.

Actually, I didn’t say that. But I’m used to people distorting and obfuscating in an attempt to hide reality as it comes to Mr. Posey – not resigning him was a mistake, one that cost us both invaluable versatility and robbed us of Pierce at his best, thanks to the ridiculous minutes he absorbed.
If Danny can’t come up with a suitable reserve 3 in the off-season – as Doc put it on the radio today, one who can defend, shoot the basketball and display some leadership – then he will deserve all the villification that I can and will hand out.
No.
This team started 27-2, if healthy had as good a chance as anyone to win the championship. they werent gonna do anything had powe/KG gone down and they overpaid for PoZ
Oh and do I think Hedo goes off like that if Posey is in the game? yes, yes I do…Posey is an extreamly overrated defender, and without KG behind him, hes no better defender then pierce.. not to mention, hedo didnt have a great series, he was bound to break out at some point
Unless keeping posey would mean KG and Powe magically never gets injured, this is a moot point
Not this year, but next year
I agree with the sentiment that we weren’t winning a title with KG and Powe out anyway. We might have gotten by ORL, but no way we beat CLE.
That being said, I think the question is: Did this season show us that it would be really nice to have Posey now going forward? And I think the answer to that is Yes.
Agree on Posey
I completely agree on the Posey comment. He played fantastic defense. We would have needed him to play defense against LeBron and Bryant (assuming LA gets to the finals) so that Pierce could have gotten enough rest. Otherwise, Pierce would have had to play too many minutes, had the Celtics gotten beyond Orlando. Plus, Posey has a great 3-point shot. Of course, he can be inconsistent, but we’ve seen a lot of that lately. The problem was the cost of signing him and the salary ceiling. They should have signed him right away before other teams got a chance to bid. They failed to realize that Posey could have made the difference between a championship and no championship and therefore was potentially worth a lot at the margin. But with K.G.’s injury, none of it would have mattered as it turns out.
