Is Ray Allen and a pick for Martin and Nocioni a realistic Ray trade.

I thought about this for a while and tried to figure out a realistic Ray Allen trade. Sending Ray and a first rounder to the Kings for Kevin Martin and Andres Nocioni makes a bunch of sense for both teams for a bunch of reasons.

1.) Sacramento is in a ton of financial trouble and might have to be sold or moved with moving probably the more likely scenario. The Sacramento Bee has already had numerous articles speculating this. Getting out from under $54.5 million worth of owed money in contracts expanding 4 years might entice the Maloofs. If they can get the team's salary ridiculously low and make up a team of really young up and coming players like Seattle/OKC did might make it feasible for them to move out of that tiny market and ridiculously out of date building

2.) Danny already seems to be in the Kings good graces as he dealt with them twice this year getting them some much needed working capital in the process. Good relationships are always a good starting point when trying to make a blockbuster trade as Danny and McHale have already proven.

3.) Allen gives the Kings a great short term replacement for Martin and  having the fourth pick could replace him long term by drafting Harden or DeRozan in the draft.

4.) This trade solves long term and short term problems for Boston. It fills the starting hole Ray's absence would create. It fills the back up SF role that is desperately needed. It gives the Celtics a base of Rondo, Perk, Noc, and Martin going forward after Pierce and KG expire. It allows Danny to spend the MLE on another hole with a big man and maybe a little left over for a point guard. It brings in two players that can play defense as well as produce offensively.

So what do you think?

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

If the Kings do this trade, Id be spinning my head in amazement and call DA genuine genius…

"No I’m not KG. Not at all, but I’m Big Baby Glen Davis from LSU, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I’m not the Big Ticket. I’m the Ticket Stub. Don’t count the Ticket Stub out. You might need the ticket to get in the game, but you leave with the ticket stub, because you’ll never forget this game."

It's easy...

to put this trade down from purely a basketball perspective but I think the financial aspect of what is happening behind the scenes is what would drive a trade like this. In this trade Ray is being used more for his expiring $20 million than he is for his quality of play or talent.

The great uncertainty here is just how bad do the Maloofs have to drop long term financial obligations to make the team look enticing to prospective cities and buyers if that is a route that will need to be taken.

I’m sorry but I just don’t see the Kings still playing in Sacramento in 5-7 years.

This is just never going to happen.

Kmart is a top 10 offensive player in this league, and he is signed to a boarderline bargian contract .. I think the Celts can still grab Andres though and he would be a good fit.

The pick is the issue

No 1st to offer until 2011 draft.

As much as I love Ray Allen

and I really do love Ray, he’s easily my favorite player on the Celtics or any other team… but this trade would be amazing. The Celtics would be all set long and short term, and have one of the best young backcourts in the league. And it would solve the back up 3 situation too.

Widly unrealistic

No way the Kings are trading Kevin Martin (at least for Ray Allen). That would put them in even bigger financial problems.

Also, I’m not sure they’re desperate to trade Nocioni.

You could be

on to something as many teams could be looking to dump salary as we could possibly find a trade in our favor if we used Ray’s contract as a Ratliff like supersized expiring contract. I don’t think many teams have as big expiring contract that will only take up 1 roster spot. You might have to add a couple more pieces though like a Bill Walker and Tony Allen ect. A dream although unlikely scenario would be to do a trade like this Ray gets bought out ala McDyess by our trading partner and returns to Boston as a super 6th man.

I remember reading a Bill Simmons article a couple months ago about the economic state of several teams that look very gloomy so I’m not throwing anything out of the window of a potential steal of a trade. I may go back and look at that article again to find out exactly which teams are in trouble.

Ray Allen is not going anywhere this offseason.

Wyc said it the other night on ‘Celtics Now’, the Big 3 are coming back for at least another season together.

that’s like san antonio getting rid of manu

13 points in 39 seconds. Enough said.

Kevin Martin is pretty much their franchise player at this point, and I’m not so sure they would be willing to trade him for just a 1 year rental/expiring. I’m sure there’s a team out there willing to offer either picks or young players along with expiring contracts which would be alot more attractive for the rebuilding kings.

Nocioni on the other hand would be a interesting option. Scalabrine, Tony Allen and JR Giddens for Nocioni would work, The kings would essentially be trading Nocioni’s large contract for expirings and a prospect in Giddens, which I think would be a realistic trade. The only thing that would prevent this trade from happening is the length of Nocioni’s contract, Are the celtics management willing to take on Nocioni for that long even though they refused to sign Posey to a similar contract?

No.

The Kings will already will be down to 30 million in payroll next season so 2010 is not the problem. On top of that, we have nothing to offer so pretty much any team with an expiring deal could trump the Celtics’ offer. The Wolves could deal Miller and Cardinal and two, if not all three, of their picks. Detroit could offer instant cap space. So could Oklahoma City. Ray Allen really means nothing to them since they are in the middle of rebuilding.
