Around SBN: On Hazards And Hulks And Tigers, Oh My!

In hindsight, someone we could've had, that could've helped!

While watching the Nuggets vs. Mavs game today, I couldn't help but notice a particular player that brought tremendous energy, good defense, productive minutes, and even more importantly another body that provides height and length.

How about this stat line:

28 minutes, 11 Pts on 3-5 FG, 5-8 FT, 6 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, 6 BLK, 1 TO with a +28 in the +/- category.

Can anyone say  "The Birdman" himself, Mr. Chris Anderson?

After free agency began last offseason, the Celtics, as we know, brought in a number of players, Mr. Andersen being one of them.  I remember him being here a few days and then all of a sudden he was gone.  Nothing.

Watching him play last year for the Hornets I came to respect how he played.  All out effort, athletic big man who could give you some minutes off the bench and most importantly someone who understood his role.  Knowing that one of the Celtics' priorities was adding another big body to replace the retiring P.J. Brown, it seemed Chris had possessed some rather essential tools the Celtics could use.  So I was a little disappointed when I found out he was seen at the airport so soon after just arriving.  I'm not quite sure what happened but all I know is not too long after, we signed someone by the name of Patrick O'Bryant who, ufortunately, didn't bring anything to the table which  then  lead to the move of needing to acquire Mr. Miki Moore.

Understand, by no means do I think he is an AllStar.  But you could easily imagine using him in a series like Chicago and now with Orlando, especially against Rashard Lewis.

I know .......coulda', woulda', shoulda'!

Sorry, just couldn't help but notice.

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Chalmers

How about Mario Chalmers? Passed on him for J.R. Giddens.

Giddens was drafted with an eye for the future, he will eventually replace TA on the depth chart at some point, Doc just not have the pants for playing rookies and everyone knows it…If Chalmers were here he would also be playin in the NBDL for sure.

Two pretty clear examples.

It’s been pretty well established that the front office made a bunch of miscalculations this summer.

Still pretty glad we didnt sign the corpse of James Posey for four years

Anderson got offered more money elsewhere and a bigger role. Shockingly, he took it. We were in on him and wanted him but couldnt give him what he wanted. Lots of teams wanted him. Danny has coveted him for years. I dont get the criticism.

Its a little early to close the book on Giddens – who has shown plenty of talent in the NBDL. I wouldnt exactly bet my money against him seeing what Danny has done with his draft picks.

How much was the offer on Andersen anyways that the C’s could not match?

Andersen was signed at the minimum. I don’t think it was a money issue, we worked him out and apparently the staff was not excited with what they saw.

Patrick O'Bryant

To be honest, I have not seen any game where PO actually played. So I wonder why the Celtics gave up on him so soon? Was he any worse than Moore?

He was traded just one day before KG was injured. Anyone think PO will still be a Celtics if the trade was delayed a day?

Agree with the OP

Every time I watch Andersen play, he’s making an impact. He could easily have been had, and he’d have made an impact here too. Another guy on their team that I like that’s making less than a million is Dahntay Jones. He’s having a nice season for them. He would have been a clearly better option than TA.

Low cost, value options. The kind that Danny successfully got last year, but failed to get this year. Danny had a poor offseason.

Yeah, I don’t believe it was a money issue. I don’t remember hearing much about why he wasn’t signed but could only assume they didn’t like what they saw. Kinda’ baffling, because if that was the case, what the hell did they see in O’Bryant?

As stated earlier, the end result ended up being Miki Moore. Tell me who would you rather have, “Birdman” or Mr. Moore?

As far as Chalmers…very nice player but he would have been coming off the bench and probably would’ve never realized the production that we saw!

Dahntay Jones...

… would have been a good fit, from Denver. Q-Ross from Memphis was begging to be picked up by somebody, too, and he would have made sense (especially in lieu of Tony Allen).
