interesting....i think boston

really needs to keep going high tempo right at orlando…they have zero guys that can really match up with rondo…and time for PP to appear

Good.

That was a real punk move. I don’t think it will affect the game that much. We still need to bring it from the 1st.

I would have been surprised if he wasn't suspended.

It was a stupid move by Alston. Now Rondo should be able to be even more productive in game 3. We need to give it to them from the opening tip, take thier hopes away.

actually that's too bad

Skip-To-My-Turnstile was great for our offense

true that

i guess the league wants to appear ‘tough’ on such antics…

Bah!

I was hoping Alston would just be fined. He’s a turrrible defensive player. Absolutely brutal. C’s can attack him at will.

Good news

But like I’ve said, even if Johnson won’t be able to defend well on Rondo, I think that he is a better shooter than Alston, so I hope the Celtics won’t overlook him defensively… or am I totally mistaken (and pessimistic)?

by Drucci on May 7, 2009 6:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Johnson seems like a tougher player, mentally and physically, and he’s probably a better shooter. His defense on Rondo will probably be a wash. The problem for Orlando is he’s probably not able to dribble as well against the pressure. Orlando seemed to counter with Turkoglu bringing the ball up (think that was just in game 1, the memory is failing me at the moment). I also noticed in game 2 it seemed as if Turkoglu was playing Rondo at certain points. I don’t know if that was a semi-zone, a calculated switch or what, but that was interesting.

Oh and then there’s Lee coming back. It should be interesting to see how it plays out.

turk plays a lot of point in game 3...

lee at the 2…redick at the small, lewis at the strong…howard at center….johnson and peitrus spot 1-3

Surprising

So the league is growing some. Didn’t think they had it in them, in the playoffs.

Rafer is apparently a fighter. Last year (March 08, as a Rocket) he squared off vs. Rondo, who had his fists clenched waiting. Gotta feel for Magic fans… they were expecting All-Star Nelson, got All-Thug Alston instead.

Easy.

What else did you expect? It was an easy call.

Let’s go Celtics! Let’s take back this home court advantage. : )

Cs can't get their guard down because of this

Magic still beat the 6ers in a clincher without Howard. Granted it was the 6ers. But still, the point is they can’t waltz in there thinking Rafer’s absence will hand them a win.

Also, I have a feeling this is going to stir up animosity over Rondo (again) because of the stuff he didn’t get suspended for. Can’t imagine Magic fans are going to be nice to our PGs (House either).

Heh...

Rafer Alston ain’t “Superman” either. lol! Dwight Howard completely changes the complexion of the game for the Magic; Alston does not. The slap was “bush league” at best and clearly was excessive contact after the play. In spite of the fact that House confronted Alston, House did an amazing job restraining himself.

THE INCONSISTENT AND IDIOTIC RULES OF THE NBA!!!! Read about Kobe Bryant Not being suspended

and think of Ray Allen being suspended for the elbow to the groin. Read below and tell me how this consistent???

However, Bryant was not suspended because the league ruled he elbowed Artest in the chest area. Had it been above the shoulders—and Artest said it was his neck—the Lakers All-Star likely would have been banned from the arena Friday.

"It’s clear in our rules that we treat elbow contact above the shoulder area differently than we do other parts of the body," NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson said on a conference call.

Contact above the shoulders wouldn’t have guaranteed a suspension, but would have caused Jackson to take a closer look at the review to determine if the elbow was deliberate.

So Ray Allen’s elbow was above the neck on Varejo? The neck of what? Clearly Kobe getting special treatment because Lakers are "supposed to go the Finals.

Quit suspending players (like Alston, RA, etc,,,) for nothing more than hard nosed competitive basketball. The slap on the head didn’t hurt Eddie (a techincal foul and that’s it). The Flagrant 1, The Flagrant 2, blah blah – it’s all subjective crapola that is always going to lead to more controversy. Just stupid stupid stupid.

Rules are rules are rules…. it was an impulse thing and no harm done. The league office should not suspend a player for such a thing.
How will we feel iwhen it happens to one of our guys?

by CfanMissippi on May 7, 2009 8:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hopefully it never does...

… I’d be upset if any Celtic acted like Alston did in that game. There’s no room for slapping another player upside the head, in my opinion.

Too Bad

I agree with a Tommy Point. The Celtics are better off with Alston in the game. He thinks he can shoot, but he can’t.
