Trade Perkins?

As we all know, the Celtics are lacking in size. So the last thing we want to do is trade Perkins....right? Wrong. If we can trade Perkins and somebody else like T.A, Scal or Pruitt for a early round draft pick it would be a good move. Perk is a great defender, but ever since the shoulder injury he has been lacking on offense. So think of it this way, trading Perk and someone else we don't need. And getting a younger, more athletic center ( he'd have to be a big guy ). This would also free up some money so we could go searching for some back-up's.

What do you think?

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

If I were KG and you told me you had traded Perk for a draft choice I would say trade me too. i have 3 good years left and hopefully win two more championships and now you throw that away . How could I trust that you would not do something else dumb. KG only came here because he thought he could win a championship. Not because of money but because of glory. And you want to tinker with that. You don’t need to win.

Don’t make a good fellow into a bad fellow.

Trading Perkins is a big risk

Zak, if we could trade Perkins for another center who is currently BETTER than he is, I would agree with you. But that would be extremely difficult, because Perkins is an absolute top notch post defender, and is an absolute bargain at $4mill a year.

Centres in the league that would be better fits on the Celtics are generally going to cost you over $10mill, which means trading Ray and committing most of our dollars to the frontcourt at the expense of the backcourt (giving up Ray for a centre means signing a cheaper replacement for Ray).

If you are talking about getting the #2 pick and taking Thabeet, I think you would almost certainly be closing the Big Three’s window one or two years early. At the very least, you would have to trade Ray to get the #2, because Perk would not be enough. I like what I have seen of Thabeet and think he could be a dominant big man in 5 years, but its highly unlikely he would be reliable enough in his first season for the Celtics to win the Championship. And once again you’re left needing to find a SG to replace Ray’s 18ppg and .480 FG%.

Not going to be easy. I just think moving any of the starting five is a really big risk, with the chance at one or two more championships at stake! Next off-season is a better time to re-assess our core.

ty quinton u're forgetting..

garnett didn’t say I want to be a celtic, he just didnt want to be a t-wolve anymore. The celtics were just bad for so many years that they picked up high draft picks, so they were able to pick him up. I’m sure there were 15 other teams that KG would have rather gone to.
