Rumor: Celtics Target Dahntay Jones

Stephen A. Smith: Celts won't need to make a deal. Their plan is to grab Dahntay Jones from the Nuggets and make sure KG returns 100 percent healthy. (via Twitter.com)

This is good news I would love to add him as a wing defender off the bench. How much would he cost though? is he worth the MLE?

Got to love how he roughed up Kobe in the Playoffs too even though he was taking cheap shot .

so if we sign Jones and resign BBD our Roster would look like this

PG: Rondo / Marbury
SG: Ray / Jones
SF: PP / Waler or Giddens
PF: KG / BBD
C: Perk / VET FA

Thats a pretty solid bencu. You have some scoring ability with Marbury and BBD and defense with Jones and whoever we get as a backup C

I definitely wouldn’t give him more than that, we cut this guy two years ago before we won our chip.

It’s SAS, after all. I doubt he’s privy to the Celtics off-season plans. Also, of course, the Celtics can’t negotiate with free agents until July 1.

Jones can’t shoot. He couldn’t make the roster once, and that’s enough. Tony Allen is a better player.

what could he possibly add. he has no offensive game, and can’t shoot sound familiar. I’d rather roll with our guys that we already have excluding TA.

ya but..

we still need a second unit stopper, and right or wrong I don’t think TA is in the celtics plans. I don’t know Ross’s game at all, but Jones has the intensity I like to see in players.

Do we want to pay $4-5M for Jones?

I don’t remember what the LLE is, but I imagine Jones would get a salary around $2M for two years. Double it for the luxury tax. TA and Jones are about the same height, no? I guess if they are trading TA it makes enough sense, but I would just as soon keep Tony and get somebody bigger at the wing.

Jones

They had no room for him with Posey and T.A. two years ago. Jones is tough athletic and fits in perfectley to the celtics defensive system. Right now I would take him over T.A. I think Jones is a better role player and he had a nice season as a starter with the Nuggets who improved thier defense this year with Billups,Anderson(another guy I would love to get) and Jones. BUT at what price?? I don’t think I spend the full MLE on him so depends on the price tag. If we can get Jones and Anderson for the MLE level by splitting it then I would probably be very happy.
