Great deal for the Spurs.

Now they’ll have a terrific starting five, they need to get a good bench and they will be contenders again in the West if healthy.

Great trade for SanAn

If they get another big or two… they’ll topple the Fakers in the playoffs.

Be serious.

You’re talking about Richard Jefferson.

by wondahbap on Jun 23, 2009 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Spurs fan here..just browsing

But they are 100% capable of doing just that with RJ, the big question and it really womped both the spurs and the celtics last year, is health.

How much better are the spurs with a Healthy Tim Duncan & Manu Ginobli? How much better are the celts with a healthy KG & Leon Powe?

RJ is a great pick up for San Antonio but it’s all still contingent on Ginoblis ankles and Duncans Knees.

WTF?

They just gave Jefferson away like that? He is a decent player! Great move for them… If they can go get a decent 5 like Camby they have an insane lineup!

Could we get Charile Bell?

If MIL is, as has been discussed in the forum, cutting salary to be able to resign Sessions and/or Villanueva, maybe we could swoop in and grab Charlie Bell.

Tony Allen + Gabe Pruitt for Charlie Bell saves MIL about $1M if they decline Pruitt’s option. I’d send cash to cover T.Allen’s deal if need be to get the deal done.

Bell is more consistent contributor right now than Tony Allen or Pruitt will ever be, IMO.

by Gainesville Celtic on Jun 23, 2009 1:38 PM EDT reply actions

An interesting idea, GC

If Milwaukee manages to resign CV and Sessions, they’re still looking at being slightly over the cap, so they might be looking to make additional cost-saving deals.

Gadzuric and Bell could help out our bench, I think.

wow

i don’t know what kind of fit he will be, but this is a no-brainer for them

by beantownboy171 on Jun 23, 2009 1:39 PM EDT reply actions

wow Spurs are going to be soo good next year. They just need to add another big man and we will be seeing them take out the lakers in the WCF

Good Trade for the Bucks

Jefferson is overrated and overpaid. Of course, the “wink wink” deal is that Bowen and Oberto will be waived, will wait the mandatory 30 days and then return to the Spurs. I’m not sure if Thomas will also be waived.

by Brickowski on Jun 23, 2009 1:45 PM EDT reply actions

The waiting period in the off-season is just 20 days...

So SA could re-sign them even more quickly.

Jefferson is better than you say. He may be overpaid, but it is worth the shot for San Antonio because their window to win another championship is starting to close.

by rondohondos on Jun 23, 2009 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, RJ is overrated and overpaid.

Jefferson needs to start rebounding the ball again, and get his defense back up where it used to be. He’s become too dependent on his scoring.

by Who on Jun 23, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Jefferson, but I agree someone will be waived and back in a Spurs uniform. That said, I think Skiles might have some use for Bowen.

by Thruthelookingglass on Jun 23, 2009 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Why would MIL waive Oberto?

they should try and dump Gadz or Elson, Oberto is MUCH better than either one.

by Gainesville Celtic on Jun 23, 2009 1:49 PM EDT reply actions

Oberto's deal is only partially guaranteed...

… as is Bowen’s. If they’re interested in saving money this season — and they are — they won’t pick up any non-guaranteed money that they don’t have to.

by Roy_Hobbs on Jun 23, 2009 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Oberto....

has to also be seen by MIL as Villanueva insurance and/or bargaining chip in Charlie V negotiations right? I mean there’s no guarantee they can resign him. And I’d rather have Oberto/Bogut than break the bank on CharlieV

by Gainesville Celtic on Jun 23, 2009 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Is Oberto any better than Gadz?

How many backup centers do the Bucks need? I don’t think Oberto has much to do with the Charlie V situation, from my perspective, other than that cutting Oberto and Bowen frees up some money to sign at least on of Sessions and Villanueva.

by Roy_Hobbs on Jun 23, 2009 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Plus, of course...

They have Kurt Thomas now. Oberto, to me, is completely extraneous.

by Roy_Hobbs on Jun 23, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

I believe only 50% of both players are guaranteed. That’s $2mil of Bowen’s $4mil. And $1.9mil of Oberto’s $3.8mil.

Both players will be waived. Easy savings for a club who are clearly going after savings.

The Bucks choose San Antonio’s offer of expiring contracts because of these two partially guaranteed deals.

by Who on Jun 23, 2009 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Who do the Spurs have for big men now? Duncan…and…Matt Bonner? Assuming Oberto comes back, they still need at least one more big. It’s going to be interesting to see where the big men go this summer.

by Berkcelt on Jun 23, 2009 1:53 PM EDT reply actions

they can still resign Drew Gooden too .

by rondohondos on Jun 23, 2009 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions

forgot about him…looks like it could set up nicely for san an

by Berkcelt on Jun 23, 2009 2:07 PM EDT up reply actions

They allegedly offered a 4-year-contract to Ioannis Bourousis, who plays in europe for Olympiacos F.C.

Considering their success with non-US-players, I`m certain they will find a way to fill out their roster.

Matt Bonner! New Hampshires best nba player. And by best, I mean only.

Sheed

I read somewhere that Rasheed Wallace may be headed to the Spurs.

by Brickowski on Jun 23, 2009 1:59 PM EDT reply actions

if Sheed goes there, hope Danny lands Mcdyess. those 2 are the premier big men in free agency this year for contenders.

by slamtheking on Jun 23, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

if Sheed goes to SA and we get Mcdyess

it’s a win-win situation! We get the guy we need, and the other quality big does not go to the cavs, but to the lakers main opponent out west, awesome

by hpantazo on Jun 23, 2009 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions

indeed

that is definitely a win-win.

by slamtheking on Jun 23, 2009 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Very good trade for both teams

by Who on Jun 23, 2009 2:12 PM EDT reply actions

?

how is this trade “very good” for the bucks? I can see it being called decent, but not very good. It’s a bit like the gasol trade

by hpantazo on Jun 23, 2009 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions

They save a load of money and get rid of an overpaid player. That money can be used on either or both Ramon Sessions and Charlie Villanueva, two players who are far more important to the Bucks future than Jefferson is.

Keeping RJ and losing those two would be a terrible day for the Bucks franchise.

by Who on Jun 24, 2009 3:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Team will get money after they give away their best player. That’s what makes them play bad but still feel they have a future aka Memphis.

by k lazy on Jun 24, 2009 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions

great trade for SA by the way.

it’ll be a shame if they knock off LA before we get to do it in the Finals next year. prove to Kobe he didn’t really lead the team to a real title since they didn’t beat the best team to get it.
yeah, I know, very “homer” of me to say that.

by slamtheking on Jun 23, 2009 2:16 PM EDT reply actions

remeber Yi?

so the Bucks traded a former lottery pick for a 1 year rental on RJ?

who’s running that team?

by Who on Jun 23, 2009 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions

well, this is the lottery pick Yi who couldn’t earn a starting spot on the NETS. He may yet have some potential, but really doesn’t have much going for him at the moment.

Herb Kohl is Running It

I guess he got tired of writing big payroll checks for a small market team that can’t escape the lottery.

Wow….. I would like to get a piece of that deal if we could give up T.Allen, Pruitt, Scal, or anybody to get a decent player we need.
