Make Your Draft Night Predictions
This place has been rumor central for weeks now and chances are that will only continue right on through draft night. So is all this smoke going to end with some kind of movement? Or is it going to be a "quiet night" for the Celtics?
Put your predictions down so you can boast and brag or laugh at yourself later (no laughing at other people please - well, at least not in a disrespectful way). Don't just vote in the poll, give us your specific predictions.
I'll start. I predict that Ray Allen gets traded but Rondo doesn't and we end up with a top 5 pick in the process.
Your turn.

I think that we buy a pick.
I think that we buy a pick and maybe make a small trade with Scal and TA….

A Major Trade is Unlikely
It could happen but it’s against the odds. The more likely scenario is that the Celtics buy a pick in the late teens early 20s if Ainge sees an opportunity. Then we will be forced to endure Russ Granik’s monotone until pick #58.
If a Ray Allen trade happens, I predict it will be with Charlotte, New Orleans or Phoenix.

I put "buy a pick"
Think Danny will buy a second rounder only. Little cost to us; if he makes the team, good, if not, no big deal.
I do think Ray will be traded by the deadline, just not on draft night.

i think we make a major trade and buy a pick.
my take on things is this: ray wants an extension which is probably more than ainge wants to pay him. so get something for him.
rondo either wants to much money, has asked for a trade or ainge and doc are trying to motivate rondo to improve his shot and fix his attitude.
i think house will opt out ending his days as a celtic.
tony and scal expiring contracts will be traded, IMO
im gonna be all up on you like a spider monkey!

Quiet Night
This is what I predict, and hope… I would be mad if Ray gets traded, and even more if he gets traded for a pick…

Buy a Pick
I think it won’t be hard to buy a pick, a lot of cash strapped teams will be selling. If we are to trade Ray I bet we end up doing it for a pick and depth. When Danny said there is a lot of depth in the free agent class but not enough for the Celtics he might have been alluding to how he thinks the C’s won’t be able to build a bench via free agency. The Washington thread that has been out there might be a possibility in which we could still have a lot of expiring contracts that we could move at the deadline to teams that are broke.

Pick and Point
Ainge buys/trades for a pick in the 21-40 range and drafts a point guard, further fueling speculation of Rondo being dealt prior to the season, but more likely spelling the end of Gabe Pruitt’s sterling Celtics career.

Slow Night
What’s on cable Thursday? Oh year, I guess I’ll be watching Burn Notice and Royal Pains.
At most TA is gone. It will either happen the night of the draft, or sometime between now and October.

Major trade
Danny is keeping KG, Pierce and Perk. Ray goes out and maybe Rajon, I see a couple of big trades with a top 3 pick coming to Boston along with a shooter and a nice PG. Ainge loves trading. Backup center and another veteran will come later on via free agency. Revolution is about to come…

Question for Jeff
Now that the most likely trading partner in Washington has already moved there pick who do you think would be a team the Celtics could trade Ray to (you don’t have to pick one just give me a few possibilities).
by Evantime34 on Jun 23, 2009 7:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I hadn't seen that yet
thanks for the heads up
I could still see a Thunder or Griz deal but neither seems as likely as the Wiz would have been, so my prediction might already be obsolete

look at golden state's roster
mix and match some players that come close to ray’s salary and amend your prediction to top 7 pick

Ray Trade
I think Ray will be dealt and I can only hope it’s for a budding star. If it’s not on draft night it will be before the trade deadline. A Ray trade will trigger Tony/Scal type secondary deals.
by Little D on Jun 23, 2009 7:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Fire!
I think there will be a major trade with Ray Allen and Possibly Rondo if all the chips fall in the right place.
I predict we will be receiving a pick and two star players in return.
Something like Ray, Rondo and Scal for Blah, Blah and a pick.
Gut feeling is there maybe something there with PHX but there trying to meet in the middle.
Ray, Rondo, Scal and TA(maybe the 58th Where Adrien maybe sitting) For Amar’e,Nash and the 14th pick and I think Barbosa may be a sticking point. So the C have to give something up or ad something.

Phoenix Trade
The deal I see with Phoenix is Ray Allen straight up for Shaq.
Just think, the Celtics start the game with their small frontcourt: Garnett and Perkins. Then at the beginning of Q2 they bring in the real beef: Shaq and Glen Davis.
Take that, Andrew Bynum!
by Brickowski on Jun 23, 2009 7:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
By the end of the night...
Celts will acquire someone standing at least 6`11".
All these rumors about getting a backup at 1 or 3 {at least as a first priority}…will prove to be a smoke-screen.
By not discussing a backup for Perk…indicates a quality backup at center is what Danny is really working on.

Memphis, Celtics and Houston
Memphis, Celtics and Houston could trade with each other. Memphis has extra big men and have a good backcourt with Conley and Mayo and they have the number 2 pick. Houston is loaded with vets and young people coming up. Just my guess and 2 cents.

These results are so close I expected to see ...
20 or 30 votes total. But we’re up to 590 votes and the results come in at %30, %20, %23, and %26 …. Clearly it’s all over the board.

Small Trade
We’re gonna trade j.r. giddens and/or mikki moore and/or gabe pruitt or/ bill walker and/or stephon marbury for a good bench player
the only good major trade i can think of that could actually happen is Perkins and one of the ppl listed above for a high draft pick (hopefully hashemm thabeet or ricky rubio)

Fabricio Oberto
He will be bought out by the Bucks and became a free agent. I think he at least do a better job than Moore.

Rondo's Gone
Rondo is outta here, sometimes where there is smoke there is no fire with these rumors but there is way too much smoke here to think Rondo’s days in Boston aren’t numbered. Shuttlesworth might be gone too but I doubt it because including Ray in a deal has too many working parts because of salary, Rondo would be much easier to move and there are many more viable PG’s in this draft than anything else.
All that said I don’t want Rondo to go anywhere unless this is run by KG, Truth, and Ray(depending on whether or not he’s going or staying) and they’re cool with it.

i hope Rondo doesnt get traded and doesnt need to be traded if you know what i mean.
i hope ainge trades nothing much for a late first round pick just to stop him (and us) from getting bored on draft day

Trade Ray? I don't think so.
Ray was very very good this and he is not likely to go anywhere. I do think he wears down over the season at his age (as did Pierce), but it was hard to avoid given Garnett’s absense. The Celtics will be very focused on preserving the strength and health of their 3 team leaders in the coming season.
The team they had this year was very capable of winning the whole thing. For one more season, at least, the idea keep the core is to deepen and supplement through maturing young players and adding a veteran or two. Everyone knows the needs, some length that can actually contribute and depth at the point (having Marbury and working with him in off-season and training camp is intriguing, but only the Celtics’ staff can truly have a sense for his commitment to team’s concept and sacrificing his ego).
Does Powe take up a roster spot, if he has months of rehab before he is ready? With his history they should and probalby will be conservative with his reehab and return. Not much can be expected from him this season, although I expect he’ll be back strong for 2010-2011.

Any move of Ray Allen that doesn’t net anything more significant than a pick in this awful draft is an unmitigated disaster.

Rondo to Memphis

Nothing is going to happen, but
if something happens is this:
Ray for Memphis Pick -→ Rubio
(Then we take a free agent -→Turkoglu)
by Jack_Frost on Jun 24, 2009 5:06 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
better off in free agency
but if we do try to get a pick, we might be able to get 13 from the pacers if we take tinsley. maybe he could even play. i would try to get b rush, foster and who ever else, maybe an additional pick for Ray. This might help us for the future, but probably hurts us right away, unless Ray continues to play the way he did against Orlando. Also, Indie would have to figure out what do do with Granger, Dunleavy and Ray. But this might put them in the playoffs, they were close last year.
I am on the side that thinks we should take advantage of ray’s current value, which will only decrease, That said, I don’t see anything out there that’s worth ray accept maybe vince carter.

my guess....
is something with Phoenix or Indiana if a trade goes down but I think both Ray and Rajon stay at the end of the night.

draft night
At most, danny will buy a late first or early second rounder. Probably second rounder —> trade #58 and cash to move up.
any trades will happen after the draft. I don’t think the starters are going anywhere (and hope that’s the case) but I really hope Danny can move TA and Scal’s expiring deals for someone productive in a longer contract. If Pruitt’s needed to make the numbers work, include him in the deal.
I’d like to hang on to Walker and Giddens on the bench to give them another year to see if they develop into something. no harm in keeping them as 13th/14th players on the team for development (even better if they improve enough to have earned meaningful minutes).

I hope it's quiet
But I think Danny’ll buy a pick, like the 21st or so. Danny LOVES the draft.

The only way I might manage seeing Ray and Rondo Go
is if we give Ray and Rondo to the Bucks for Michael Redd and the #10 pick, where we would hopefully be able to draft Johnny Flynn.
by CeltsGM21 on Jun 24, 2009 2:02 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
you're kidding right?
redd who’s been injured the last seriously twice in the last 3 years, who is terrible on defense, who’s scoring has slowly dropped the last 3 years, that redd?
id give them scal and tony for him but rondo, ray, pierce, KG, perk, not a chance
im gonna be all up on you like a spider monkey!
by remembering9ergods on Jun 24, 2009 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No, I'm not kidding
but for me, right now, the most important piece would be trying to get Flynn if we lost Rondo. And I’m not sure what kind of crazy GM would give up redd for scal or tony. Regardless, I’m hoping things quiet down, we keep everyone in the starting five, and Rondo “matures,” and then the team quiets everyone else down by winning another championship.
by CeltsGM21 on Jun 24, 2009 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
??
in your scenario, we’re not losing Rondo. you’re giving him away (with Ray) for pennies on the dollar.
Ray is much better than Redd.
Rondo is far better than anyone taken at 10 in this draft will ever be.
by slamtheking on Jun 24, 2009 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with you
I guess I’m just putting something out there that might make me a little happier if we have to lose ray or rondo. I don’t want to lose either of them, and I love Flynn because I’m also a big Syracuse fan, so if we had to give up Rondo, I would like to try to get Flynn, since even though not as established or experienced, he reminds me of Rondo, but with better shooting skills.

Danny will but a high 2nd round pick and draft Patrick Mills. He’ll draft some foreign player at #58.
