Nice Ryan Article
Typical Ryan stuff. He summarizes the situation. What stands out to me is that while Rajon is the straw that stirs the drink, there are a lot of straws out there that can do the job. So, does that make Rajon expendable because he can be replaced? Does it lesson his value since he is one of many? From a contract negotiation point of view, the answer is ‘yes’ to both.
I cannot help but think that most of this rhetoric is simply a kick in the ego to Rajon. Or, is this the groundwork to let Celtic fandom know that WHEN Rajon is traded, he’ll be replaced by someone who can do the job equal to, or better than he?
At this point, I’m glad I ran across the border and got a 12 pack of Fat Tire. This isn’t going to stop until something happens with his current contract. But I cannot see the Cs doing nothing with Rajon and letting him become a restricted free agent. That would create a publicity mess for the team, and too much of a distraction.
I’m a mess.

It's hard to believe DA
I mean, he comes out says they’re not trying to trade Rondo, then the next day says the team had to fine him, and another rumor pops up.
Maybe he’s just not trying to sound desperate to trade Rondo? Drive up the price a little.

you know what I find most weird all these trade rumours? is that Rondo has always been Ainges guy, he did what it took to get him in the draft, he would involve him in the trades for Allen and Garnett, he made him the be-all end-all starting point guard of a championship team, and rondo has done nothing but get better….
this is all about having leverage over rondo because he wants to much money but wants to be a celtics

Great article, Bob Ryan
A pleasure to read, and quite calming, actually.

Then it's Free Agency
I find that post interesting, because taken at face value (I know, hard to do with Danny) it means they only have free agency to acquire new players. Which is fine, if they are going to bump the team payroll to $90-100M. I’m skeptical that they will do that, but if that’s actually viable, then more power to Danny, Wyc and co.

Great Job Bob Ryan...
On not taking a stance at all, waffling on the question on whether or not we should trade Rondo, and stating what should be incredibly obvious to anyone who follows the Celtics even casually at this point:
“But it’s not our call. It’s Danny’s, and if he thinks trading Rajon Rondo will make the Celtics a better team, he won’t hesitate to do it.”
That was it? That was your big revelation? I’m sorry, but the point of a Column is to pick one side of an issue and argue it to death, giving the reader new information and helpful tidbits along the way. I’m pretty sure you learn that in the second month of “JO 101: Intro to Journalism.”
I don’t always agree with Shaughnessy, but at least he has the cajones to shake things up and occasionally voice a real opinion.
