What do you guys think about this potential roster for the 2009-2010 season? Is it possible?
Current 2008-2009 Roster
PG Rajon Rondo
Stephon Marbury
Gabe Pruitt
SG Ray Allen
Tony Allen
JR. Giddens
Eddie House
SF Paul Pierce
Bill Walker
PF Kevin Garnett
Leon Powe
Glen Davis
Brian Scalabrine
C Kendrick Perkins
Miki Moore
Potential 2009-2010 Roster
PG Rajon Rondo
Bobby Jackson (FA Pick Up)
Gabe Pruitt
SG Ray Allen
Eddie House
JR. Giddens
SF Paul Pierce
Matt Barnes (FA Pick Up)
Bill Walker
PF Kevin Garnett
Chris Andersen (FA Pick Up)
Glen Davis
Leon Powe
C Kendrick Perkins
Rasheed Wallace (FA Pick Up)
Can it be done??
- Can Garnett convince his friend Sheed to come to Boston for a another championship run before he retires as a backup to Perk who can defend and stretch out defenses with his 3 point shooting ability.
- I think Barnes is very doable and 1 of 3 great FA SF options. The other 2 that I like are Marquis Daniels and Jarvis Hayes. I like Grant Hill but with all his injuries at age 37 start of next year it may be too risky to depend on him to stay healthy all year. A SF backup for Pierce all year is the priority.
- I love the "bird man" for our team and I think he fits in perfectly. High energy, great defender, and a good rebounder. Adding that kind of high energy depth to our bench is necessary especially with question marks on BB Davis staying and Powe out for a long while next year. The other PF that sticks out of course is McDyess, but McDyess is up there in age as well.
- Bobby Jackson is 36, but I think he can be a viable backup to Rondo. The other FA PG that sticks out is Tyronne Lue who is younger and another low cost option. The best option available is Bibby, but unless House can convince his brother in law to come play with him to win a championship for a lot less money it's a long shot.
I think the goal for the Celtics is to try and win another championship now so getting guys to fill in now is the key. We are not in a rebuilding process and and when we do start that process without the big 3 it's going to be a few losing seasons, but that's what we signed up for by assembling the big 3. The only way I can see us breaking up the big 3 that may make sense is to trade Ray Allen and somehow get Ron Artest, and move Pierce to SG. We are surely going to meet Lebron again so having Artest on Lebron freeing up Pierce on the defensive end is a huge plus. I don't see that happening unless the Rockets get rid of McGrady as well, and Artest was the catalyst for their run in the playoffs so I see them re-signing him. But you never know with Artest. I just don't see us breaking up the big 3 this soon, or should I say big 4 or 5 with the way Rondo and Perk have matured. Leave the starting 5 alone for now.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Problems:
A) Moneywise, it would be foolish to keep BBD and Powe but then ALSO pickup Sheed AND Birdman. Its a lot of money to commit. I’d love for it to happen, but a lot of money.
B) Sheed said he’s only coming back if the moeny was right. Until I hear different, I believe him. That puts him outta our $ range
C) Birdman played his way out of our price range before April. He’s coming back to denver.
D) What happened to Tony Allen in all this? He’s got 2.5 million guaranteed next season, so even if he’s just waived it still counts against our lux tax number, dollar for dollar.
E) Same for Scal’s 3.4 million next season.
Roy Hobbs, an contributor on the blog and manager of the forums, worked up an awesome, easy to understand and very comprehensive FAQ about our Salary Cap and possibilities next season. Check it out

Reporter: About a year ago I asked about the Celtics-Lakers thing and you said you'd really only seen it on TV. Now you've been through it, can you talk about playing the Boston Celtics for the NBA championship?

PG Rondo
Pruitt
SG R. Allen
JJ Reddick
Giddens
SF P. Pierce
Grant Hill
Walker
PF K. Garnett
Davis
A. McDyess
Powe
c Perkins
Marcin Gortat 24yrs old or ZaZa Pachulia 25yrs old
If a rookie can make the team good for him…send him to the D league. My new additions are young ,athletic and affordable
JJ Reddicj Grant Hill Marcin Gortat ZaZa Pachulia
24 yrs. 36yrs. 24yrs. 25yrs.
2.1 Mil. 1.9 Mil (cheap) 711.000 4. Mil
6.’ 11 6’ 8 6.’ 11 6’11
A. McDyess
34yrs
3 Mil
6’9
JJ Reddick would have to be a trade of some sort and not Ray Allen. If Big Baby wants more than 4Mil take that salery and get both ZaZa and Gortact They both have height play defense and get us young quick.
I see where Danny supposedly wants Amare!!! He’s a jerk…He has said he has to be the alpha dog and thinks defense is only blocking shots(no defense)…you could see him whineing on the bench when he was asked to play last year, and he’s not the player he was two years ago
Tony Allen and Scal’s salery only counts against the lux tax if no one pickes them up

I have a feeling Rasheed Wallace will change his stance about the"8 million dollar a year or retire" thing once he realizes the nature of the free agent market this year. However, if he is going to sign with the Celtics, it will be for the full MLE and not a penny less.
If the Celtics were to sign ’Sheed, then the Birdman is out of the question, he will probably command a salary of at least 3 mill up to the MLE. Matt Barnes is also unlikely because he has probably played his way to a salary of at lest 3 mill. a year.
I can see Bobby Jackson being signed for the minimum but I’m not convinced that he would even help the Celtics on the floor. He’s pretty washed up at this point and he was never really much of a pg. I would rather see them re-sign Marbury or go after Anthony Johnson or Anthony Carter.
Alot of people here have recommended Antonio Mcdyess and Grant Hill but I’m not sure either player is willing to leave their respective teams. Grant Hill is so reliant on the Suns medical staff, and Mcdyess gave up alot of money to resign with the Pistons. If Mcdyess didn’t sign with the Celtics when he was released last year then I see no reason why he would sign with them this off season.
Big Baby Davis will probaby be re-signed as long as his contract is around the 3.5 million dollar range. Powe will probably hang around, and will probably resign for the minimum for 2 years even though hes injured as a sign of goodwill.
And also, Gortat is probably going to resign with the Magic unless there is a team that will overpay him, and the Celtics are not in that position.

it was just released that Sheed would be willing to take less.

OR
I think this actually works and is better anyways
PG
Rondo
Bobby Jackson (Vet. Min.)
Pruitt
SG
Allen
House
Hudson
SF
Pierce
Barnes (LLE)
Walker
PF
Garnett
Davis
Powe
C
Perkins
Camby (Trade: Scal, T.A., Giddens)
We’re better off not using the MLE if we don’t have to, so next year we still could get a good FA signing if Pierce is wiling to opt out and take less money.
